If you are a new parent wondering where to travel with your baby, I’m here to help. But, first! Congratulations! It’s so exciting to have a first baby and honestly nothing like traveling with them. We’ve taken my daughter all over the world including all the way to Japan and our infant son is now along for the ride. We’re parents who like to travel and we didn’t stop when we had kids.
My advice for the best places to travel with a baby or infant is wherever YOU want to go. This age, under 1 year, is the easiest it’s going to be so go far, go where you want! Beach destinations are nice and relaxing with babies and exploring a city is equally great because you’ll either wear them or put them in a stroller! When my daughter hit 18 months, THAT was a travel game changer so honestly, enjoy it and do what you want now.
In this post, I’m telling you allll about the places we have traveled with a baby or infant (I’m talking under 1 year) and where we stayed so you have some actionable tips to start planning! Plus, I included a few other places I have personally been that I think would be great with a baby and look forward to returning to with my own kids.
I also help my readers plan trips as a travel advisor so I’d be glad to talk with you if this all seems overwhelming! 🙂 I want your first trip with a baby to be unforgettable!

The Best Beach Destinations to Travel with a Baby
Beach destinations are some of my favorite places to travel with a baby. There is something wonderfully simple about a beach vacation with a little one. You can slow down, spend plenty of time outside, and there is no pressure to fill every minute with activities.
And while traveling with a baby does require a little more planning, it does not have to mean giving up the kind of trip you love. These are some of the beach destinations I would feel confident recommending for a first trip with a baby, including several I have personally traveled to with my own kids.
1. Greek Islands

Greece was our first European trip with our daughter when she was 11 months old and we intentionally chose somewhere we already knew and loved. That made a huge difference in my confidence as a first time traveling mom. The Greek Islands are also naturally well suited to the slower pace that works so well with a baby. Beaches, long lunches, a pool and wandering through charming villages can easily make up an entire day.
The biggest challenge is getting around, particularly if you are taking ferries with luggage and baby gear. It takes a little more planning, but I think it is completely worth it. My recommendation is actually to pick an island like Milos, Crete or Mykonos that you can fly to and try to avoid the ferry as much as possible with a little one. See all of my tips for traveling to Greece with a baby post!
May, June, September and early October are my favorite months especially with an infant. September is especially lovely because the weather is still warm, the water is beautiful and the islands are generally a little less hectic than the height of summer. It’s actually the month we go every single time! July and August are great too, but it will be hot and probably less ideal while traveling with an infant.
Things to Do in Greece with a Baby
- Spend slow mornings at the beach
- Have long, leisurely Greek lunches
- Enjoy the hotel pool during the hottest part of the day
- Wander through charming villages
- Take a private or small group boat day
- Leave plenty of time to simply relax
Where to Stay in Greece with a Baby
On this trip when we took our baby, we spent five nights on Sifnos and two nights in Mykonos since we could fly directly there (then a shorter ferry to Sifnos). On Sifnos, we stayed at Astra Verina, which was technically adults only but graciously made an exception for us. For a more family friendly option, NOS Hotel is another Sifnos hotel I would consider with kids the next time we go back.
In Mykonos, we stayed at Cali Mykonos, which was incredibly welcoming to our daughter and made traveling with a baby feel very easy. There’s also a brand new Four Seasons Mykonos that just opened!
I also love Milos and there are so many great, new hotels or villas that would be amazing with a baby.
2. Mallorca, Spain

Mallorca is another baby friendly destination where you can have a perfect combination of beautiful beaches, charming towns and a wonderful hotel. We took our son to Mallorca for his first European summer trip when he was just seven months old, along with our almost three year old daughter, and it was such an easy destination for our family.
You can make the trip as active or relaxed as you want. Spend a morning exploring a village, have lunch somewhere beautiful and be back at the hotel for nap time and an afternoon at the pool. That flexibility is exactly what I look for when traveling with babies.
We loved staying at the new Four Seasons Mallorca because it was truly a resort destination that was great with little ones. We had easy access to a sandy beach with chairs and umbrellas plus the pool, multiple restaurants, spa, etc. Our boat day was the absolutely highlight and the little guy was happy the whole time (we did a shorter trip). I highly recommend it with kids in Mallorca.
We also stayed at La Residencia which I think is especially nice with a baby too where you can really enjoy the hotel and charming town of Deia! There were plenty of babies at both hotels.
May, June, September and early October are ideal times to visit. I particularly love Mallorca in September when the summer heat starts to ease but you still have beautiful beach weather. Mallorca was truly one of the best vacations with a baby!
Things to do in Mallorca with a baby
- Explore Palma at an easy pace
- Visit the charming towns of Sóller and Deià
- Spend the day at the beach
- Take a private boat day
- Enjoy your hotel pool
- Have long lunches overlooking the Mediterranean
- Make your hotel the destination and keep sightseeing to a minimum
Where to stay in Mallorca with a baby

We split our stay between two very different hotels because I wanted to experience both: Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor and La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca. Both would be wonderful choices for a family, depending on the type of trip you want.

3. Bermuda

Bermuda was my son’s first international trip at just 4 months old and it was exactly what I needed at 4 months postpartum. Since Bermuda was easy to reach from Charleston, we could get there without a long travel day, and we made the decision to essentially fly and flop. It is one of the best baby friendly travel destinations and made traveling with a newborn so easy.
We barely left the resort, and honestly, that was the point. As a four month postpartum mom, I loved having permission to slow all the way down. We spent our days at the beach and pool, enjoyed dinners at the resort and took the occasional golf cart ride around the property. It was a vacation in the truest sense of the word.
We went in May, but it’s ideal in May through October for the best beach weather. Reminder that Bermuda is NOT in the Caribbean so it’s much less hot! The weather in May was warm, but never hot or humid which was so nice with a baby!
Things to do in Bermuda with a baby
- Spend the day at the beach
- Relax by the pool
- Explore by golf cart
- Enjoy leisurely dinners
- Explore Hamilton and St. George’s
Where to stay in Bermuda with a baby
We stayed at Rosewood Bermuda and loved it. This is exactly the type of resort I would look for with a young baby because you can have a beautiful luxury vacation without feeling like you need to leave the property.
4. Anguilla

Anguilla is at the top of my list for a Caribbean trip with a baby. We are actually taking our son when he is nine months old, along with our three year old, and I cannot wait.
For us, the Caribbean is an easy option from Charleston (or anywhere on the East Coast), and I love the idea of escaping somewhere warm in November or December when we could all use a little sunshine. Anguilla also lends itself to the kind of slow, beach focused trip that works beautifully with little ones.
It’s a place where the hotel is really the destination and you can relax. Spend days by the beach or pool, enjoy the spa (which mom definitely deserves!) and eat some great meals.
November through April is ideal for warm, sunny weather in the Caribbean and a break from winter at home.
Things to do in Anguilla with a baby
- Spend long days at the beach
- Enjoy the resort pool
- Take a boat day
- Have relaxed lunches and dinners
- Explore the island at an easy pace
- Let the hotel do most of the work!
Where to stay in Anguilla with a baby
We are splitting our upcoming trip between Four Seasons Resort and Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla. Cap Juluca has been on my bucket list for years, so I am especially excited to finally experience it.
5. Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como is technically one I traveled to with my daughter when she was 20 months old (and was pregnant with my son!) so she was a little beyond the baby stage. But after seeing so many families enjoying the lake with tiny babies, I would absolutely recommend it for an infant trip.
The beauty of Lake Como is that you do not have to be constantly sightseeing. You can enjoy your hotel, spend time by the pool, take a boat across the lake and visit a charming town or two when you feel like getting out.
May through September, with June and September being especially nice for a balance of warm weather and fewer crowds.
Things to do in Lake Como with a baby
- Spend the day by the pool
- Take a private boat around the lake
- Explore villages like Bellagio and Varenna
- Enjoy long lunches overlooking the water
- Wander through gardens
- Make your luxury hotel the main event
Where to stay in Lake Como with a baby
We stayed at Il Sereno, and I was so impressed by how thoughtfully they welcomed families. They had their own private baby monitor WiFi network, a crib and baby amenities, and they even gave my daughter baby pajamas and a really nice quality stuffed elephant that she still sleeps with.
That kind of attention to the little details is exactly what makes a luxury hotel feel worth it when you are traveling with a baby.
6. Kiawah Island, South Carolina

If you want a luxury beach getaway without a big travel day, put Kiawah Island on your list. I live near Kiawah and have spent plenty of time there, and it is one of my favorite options for families looking for an easy South Carolina escape with a baby.
You get beautiful beaches, nature, pools, great dining and a slower pace, all without having to get on an international flight. And if you want a true luxury resort experience that still works incredibly well for families, this is one of the best options in South Carolina.
Late spring through early fall is a great time of year for beach weather. Fall is also a wonderful time if you want cooler temperatures and a quieter getaway.
Things to do in Kiawah Island with a baby
- Spend the day at the beach
- Enjoy the resort pool
- Take walks or bike rides
- Look for wildlife
- Explore the island
- Enjoy leisurely meals
- Simply slow down and enjoy being together
Where to stay in Kiawah Island with a baby
For a traditional resort experience, stay at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island to be beachfront. The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection is another beautiful option right along a river and is technically located on Johns Island, just outside Kiawah.
7. 30A, Florida

I love 30A Florida, although I have not been with my own kids, and I think it is an excellent destination for a family with a baby. The small beach towns are charming, easy to explore and give you something to do when you want a break from the beach.
I also love that you can make this trip as simple or as active as you want. Rent a house or stay at a hotel, spend your mornings at the beach, grab lunch in town, shop in the cute boutiques and head back for nap time. There is no need to overcomplicate it.
I went in February and it was warm, but not hot. I would say go in early spring or early fall for warm beach weather without the summer heat. I especially love the shoulder seasons when it is a little less crowded.
Things to do in 30A with a baby
- Beach days
- Explore Seaside, Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach
- Take a stroller walk around town to shop and wander
- Enjoy casual, family friendly restaurants
- Rent bikes with a baby seat
- Spend afternoons by the pool
Where to stay in 30A with a baby
Look for a hotel or vacation rental that gives you enough space to comfortably manage naps and bedtime. This is one destination where a rental can be particularly appealing for families who want a kitchen and separate sleeping space. But, if you want a luxury hotel, I like The Pearl though children under 18 are not allowed at the pool. The Watercolor is another great option for families.
8. Santa Monica, California

We spent one night in Santa Monica Beach with our little one before flying to Japan and I immediately thought it would be such a fun place for a longer baby friendly family trip. You get the beach, a walkable area, great restaurants and easy access to so many other parts of Los Angeles area.
It is also a nice option if you want a coastal beach destination but do not want to spend your entire trip sitting at a resort.
May through October is generally a great time for beach weather, although Santa Monica’s mild climate makes it a year round option.
Things to do in Santa Monica with a baby
- Walk along the beach
- Explore the Santa Monica Pier
- Stroll through nearby Venice
- Spend time at the hotel pool
- Explore Los Angeles at an easy pace
- Enjoy outdoor restaurants and coffee shops
Where to stay in Santa Monica with a baby

The Regent Santa Monica Beach would be my pick and is where we stayed for one night. It is an especially baby welcoming hotel and gives you that combination of luxury, beach access and a convenient location. They provided really nice Nestig cribs, baby toiletries and my daughter got to pick a nice knit stuffed animal at check-in!
9. Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is another destination I visited before having kids and it is one I think would translate really well to a baby friendly vacation. You can have a true beach vacation while also adding in some easy exploring, which is perfect if you do not want to spend your entire trip at the resort.
There’s plenty to do in Puerto Rico from exploring trails in El Yunque rainforest, taking a sunset sail, and exploring historic site in Old San Juan. It’s a super charming and historic town while having the only US National Park rainforest, plus great beaches!
Another major bonus for American families: you do not need a passport, and you can enjoy the ease of traveling within a U.S. territory while still feeling like you are somewhere completely different. Speaking of, if you need to get your baby a passport, click the link to see my post about it.
December through April is ideal for warm, relatively dry weather and a great escape from winter. I went in January and it was perfect for beach days and exploring comfortably!
Things to do in Puerto Rico with a baby
- Spend the day at the beach
- Explore Old San Juan
- Take an easy walk through El Yunque National Forest
- Enjoy the hotel pool
- Have dinner outdoors
- Take a boat day
- Keep your itinerary flexible around naps
Where to stay in Puerto Rico with a baby
The new Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico or the Ritz Carlton Reserve at Dorado would be at the top of my list for a luxury family trip. A great resort makes this destination especially easy with a baby because you can spend most of your time on property and venture out when you feel like it.
10. Seychelles

Okay, this one is definitely for the adventurous family or my UK readers. We traveled to the Seychelles for our honeymoon, and while it is a long way to go from the US with a baby, I actually think there is something to be said for doing a big trip while your baby is still a small lap infant.
If you are already considering a once in a lifetime trip, I would not automatically rule it out just because you have a baby. The Seychelles is incredibly beautiful, peaceful and well suited to a slow resort vacation. You just need to be comfortable with the long travel time and build in plenty of time to recover from the journey.
April to May and October to November are generally excellent times for a Seychelles trip, with warm weather and good conditions for enjoying the islands. We went toward the end of April and had lovely weather.
Things to do in Seychelles with a baby
- Spend your days at the beach
- Relax by the pool
- Take a private boat excursion
- Explore the island at a slow pace
- Enjoy long lunches and dinners
- Snorkel or take turns enjoying water activities while the other parent stays with baby
- Spend most of your time simply enjoying the resort
- Spot tortoises!
Where to stay in the Seychelles with a baby
I would stay on Mahé at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles or Constance Ephelia with a baby. If you want to make the long journey even more special, consider splitting the trip between Mahé and a private island. We stayed at Six Senses Zil Pasyon and loved it and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island would be another incredible option, though more logistics with a baby.
And honestly, if a bucket list destination like the Seychelles is calling your name, the baby years can actually be a great time to go. They are still free or nearly free to fly as a lap infant, they do not need much in the way of activities, and a beautiful resort can provide almost everything you need. Yes, they can technically be a lap infant until 2, but they start to get too big for that by 18 months in my opinion.
The Best Cities to Visit with a Baby
Cities might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about traveling with a baby, but I actually love a good city trip with little ones. The key is choosing a city that is easy to walk, has plenty of parks and green space, and gives you lots of opportunities to stop for a long lunch, head back to the hotel for a nap and explore again later.
These are some of my favorite cities for traveling with a baby, including ones that I have personally visited with my own kids.
11. Munich, Germany

Munich, Germany completely surprised me. We visited with our daughter when she was 11 months old as part of our first European trip with her and I found it to be such an easy city to explore with a baby. It is beautiful, clean, walkable and has plenty of green space, so you can spend your days sightseeing without feeling like you are constantly rushing from one attraction to the next. See our Munich 3 Day Itinerary here!
We went because my husband had a meeting here for work, but one of the biggest benefits for us was that Munich also had a direct flight to Mykonos, which made it an easy starting point before continuing on to the Greek Islands. I loved that we could have a city experience in Munich and then slow things down on the beach in Greece.
May, June, September and early October are my favorite months for Munich with a baby. You will have comfortable temperatures for walking and spending time outdoors without the heat of summer. September is especially lovely, although keep in mind that Oktoberfest makes late September and early October much busier.
Things to do in Munich with a baby
- Explore the historic center by stroller
- Wander through the English Garden which is incredible
- Visit the Viktualienmarkt (basically a farmers market)
- Enjoy long lunches and early dinners (pretzels and beer!)
- Spend time in the city’s parks and green spaces
- Take a day trip to a nearby Bavarian town or castle
- Build in plenty of time for naps and wandering
Where to stay in Munich with a baby

We stayed at Rosewood Munich, and it was one of the most baby friendly luxury hotels we have experienced. They were incredibly thoughtful with our daughter and made it easy to have a beautiful hotel stay while traveling with a baby.
12. Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen was actually our daughter’s very first international destination as a baby, before we eventually did our slightly unconventional Munich and Greece trip. We have family friends here and try to return every year or two and it remains one of my favorite cities for families. It is such a great place to go with a baby in summer because it’s warm, but never too hot to explore with them!
It is incredibly easy to explore by stroller, and Copenhagen has such a relaxed, family friendly feel. We spent so much time simply walking around the city with our daughter, stopping for lunch, popping into parks and enjoying the fact that we did not need a complicated itinerary.
May through September is ideal, with June being my favorite for the long days, comfortable temperatures and all of the outdoor activities. September is another great option if you want slightly fewer crowds while still having good weather for exploring on foot.
Things to do in Copenhagen with a baby
There are so many great things to do in Copenhagen like:
- Walk around Nyhavn
- Explore the Botanical Gardens
- Spend time in the city’s parks and playgrounds
- Visit Tivoli Gardens
- Enjoy long lunches and early dinners
- Wander the city’s beautiful neighborhoods
- Take advantage of Copenhagen’s very stroller friendly streets
See my full travel guide for visiting Copenhagen, Denmark.
Where to stay in Copenhagen with a baby

- Villa Copenhagen – where we stayed with a baby, love the location near Tivoli and rooftop pool
- Hotel Sanders – we loved this hotel as a couple and it would be great with a baby too, though we liked having a pool
- 1 Hotel Copenhagen – a new hotel in Copenhagen with more spacious rooms
- Hotel d’Angleterre – classic full service luxury hotel in Copenhagen
See my full guide for where to stay in Copenhagen and my favorite hotels in Copenhagen.
13. Kyoto & Tokyo, Japan

We took our daughter to Japan when she was 18 months old and had such a fun trip. That said, if I were doing it again with a baby, I would probably go before the walking stage. A baby who is happy in a stroller makes a destination like Japan considerably easier than chasing a toddler through busy city streets! Plus, being able to wear them in a baby carrier helps too.
Tokyo and Kyoto are both incredible cities for families and there is so much to see and do that you can easily tailor the trip around your baby’s schedule. The food alone makes it worth the journey for me!
Our daughter had a great time running through the red torii gates at Fushimi Inari, strolling around Kiyomizu-dera Temple and exploring the eclectic streets of Tokyo. We were able to see all the sites we wanted to see and even squeezed in some baby friendly things like seeing the animals at the Kyoto Zoo.
Spring and fall are my favorite seasons for Japan with a baby. April and May bring beautiful spring weather, while October and November are generally comfortable for walking and exploring. If you want to experience cherry blossoms, just know that end of March/ early April is one of the busiest and most expensive times to visit, so I would not choose it solely for the blossoms unless that is a priority. We went right after at the end of April and it was still lovely with blooms and far less crowded!
See our 5 day Kyoto Itinerary and our Tokyo Itinerary.
Things to do in Japan with a baby under 1
- Explore Tokyo neighborhoods by stroller
- Visit temples and gardens in Kyoto
- Wander through beautiful Japanese gardens
- Enjoy sushi, ramen and other incredible Japanese food
- Take the train between cities
- Visit quieter neighborhoods and markets
- Build your itinerary around a few major sights each day rather than trying to do everything
Where to stay in Japan with a baby
We stayed at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi, The Tokyo EDITION and The Shinmonzen in Kyoto. The Shinmonzen was particularly baby friendly for such an intimate, ultra luxury boutique hotel, and I would absolutely consider it for a trip with an infant.
14. Madrid, Spain

We visited Madrid before continuing on to Mallorca, and I thought it was such an easy city to explore with kids. There are so many parks, playgrounds and green spaces that you can break up sightseeing with plenty of time for your little one to move around.
With two kids in tow, we also learned quickly that lunch is your friend. We planned our days around a good midday meal and did not put too much pressure on ourselves to have a successful dinner out every night. Sometimes dinner was room service or something easy at the hotel, and that is completely fine.
April through June and September through October are the best times to go with a baby. I would avoid the height of summer with a baby if possible. Madrid can get very hot, and cooler spring and fall temperatures make it much more enjoyable to spend the day walking between parks, restaurants and sights.
Things to do in Madrid with a baby
- Explore the city’s beautiful parks
- Visit El Retiro Park
- Wander through Madrid’s charming neighborhoods
- Enjoy long Spanish lunches
- Stop at playgrounds along the way
- Visit museums at a relaxed pace
- Enjoy churros and chocolate
- Take an afternoon break at the hotel
Where to stay in Madrid with a baby
We stayed at The Brach Madrid, which I loved. I recommend their Armando Suite with a baby because you get a spacious living area and incredible terrace to enjoy after the baby goes to sleep! Other luxury options I would consider include Rosewood Villa Magna and Four Seasons Hotel Madrid.
15. Charleston, South Carolina

Of course I have to include my hometown. I have lived in Charleston my entire life and it is genuinely one of the easiest cities I can think of for a first trip with a baby in the US.
Downtown Charleston is incredibly walkable with a stroller and you can combine wandering the historic streets with great food, shopping, parks and nearby beaches. It is also a wonderful year round destination thanks to our generally mild weather. If you are nervous about your first trip with a baby, Charleston is a great place to start.
Honestly, almost any time of year works, but spring and fall are my favorites. March through May and September through November bring some of our best weather for walking around downtown and spending time outside. Summer is beautiful too, but it can be very hot and humid with a baby so I would not recommend unless you head to a beach (but even then, it is hot!).

Things to do in Charleston, SC with a baby
- Stroll through historic downtown
- Walk along The Battery
- Explore Waterfront Park
- Shop on King Street
- Spend a day at Sullivan’s Island or Isle of Palms
- Enjoy leisurely lunches
- Take a walking tour
- Wander through the historic neighborhoods
- Eat your way through Charleston restaurants
Where to stay in Charleston, SC with a baby
- The Cooper: A beautiful waterfront option with contemporary coastal design and harbor views. I’d look at the larger suites for extra room with a crib and all your baby gear.
- The Charleston Place: A classic Charleston hotel in the heart of downtown. Its central location makes it easy to explore on foot and return to your room for naps. Suites are worth considering if you want a separate living area.
- Hotel Bennett: An elegant hotel overlooking Marion Square, with King Street and plenty of restaurants nearby. I love its location for families who want to explore downtown without going far between stops.
- The Dewberry Charleston: A stylish, more intimate hotel across from Marion Square. It’s a great option if you appreciate thoughtful design and want to be within walking distance of downtown sights. Consider a larger room or suite for extra space with a baby.
My tip: In Charleston, I’d prioritize a central location and a comfortable room layout so you can easily head back for naps or an early bedtime. I have a post all about where to stay in Charleston plus my top family friendly hotels in Charleston.
16. Paris, France

Paris with a baby? Absolutely. In fact, I think Paris can be much easier with a baby than with a busy toddler. You can walk almost everywhere, spend hours sitting at a café or enjoying a long meal and build your days around wandering rather than checking attractions off a list.
There are beautiful parks throughout the city and a baby in a stroller or carrier can happily take a nap while you enjoy Paris. Add in incredible food and a slower pace, and you have the makings of a wonderful first baby friendly Europe trip.
April through June and September through October are my favorite times for Paris with a baby. You will have comfortable temperatures for walking and enjoying the city’s parks and outdoor cafés without the intense summer heat. But, Christmas would definitely be magical with holiday markets!
Things to do in Paris with a baby
- Walk along the Seine
- Take a Seine River cruise
- Picnic in the Luxembourg Gardens
- Wander through Le Marais
- Enjoy long lunches at cafés
- Visit the Tuileries Garden
- Explore a few museums without trying to see everything
- Stop for pastries whenever you feel like it!

Where to stay in Paris with a baby
Rosewood Hôtel de Crillon would be my pick for a luxury stay and this brand is always very baby friendly. A great Paris hotel is especially valuable with a baby because you can retreat to a beautiful room for naps and downtime without sacrificing the overall experience. For a more affordable option, we stayed at The Hoxton Paris and really loved it especially for the amazing courtyard where you could easily enjoy the outdoor space while baby naps.
17. Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is another city that I think works beautifully for a baby because so much of the city can be explored on foot. We took our seven month old to Boston and we had a great time experiencing the city with him at this age.
The combination of history, parks, waterfront walks and great restaurants makes it easy to have a full day without needing a packed sightseeing schedule.
May through October, with late May, June and September being especially nice. Summer is great for enjoying Boston’s parks and waterfront, while September brings beautiful weather without quite as many summer crowds. We were there in September!
Things to do in Boston with a baby
- Walk the Freedom Trail
- Explore Boston Common and the Public Garden
- Stroll along the waterfront
- Visit the Boston Public Market
- Explore Beacon Hill
- Enjoy an early dinner (we loved Saltie Girl!)
- Spend time in the city’s parks
- Take a harbor cruise
Where to stay in Boston with a baby
Four Seasons Hotel Boston would be my first choice for a luxury family stay and it is where we stayed with our toddler and baby. The location makes it easy to get out and explore while still giving you a comfortable place to retreat for naps and downtime. The hotel was SO accommodating and provided a crib, baby amenities and toiletries, plus a secret toy closet for kids that my toddler loved! I can book it for you with VIP perks like free breakfast, $100 hotel credit and upgrades when available! Inquire here or browse my portal to book on your own!
18. Florence, Italy

We took our daughter to Florence and loved it, but I would be very intentional about when you go. We visited in September and it was still hot, which made walking around with a baby much harder than it needed to be.
Florence itself is wonderful for families. It is compact enough to explore on foot, there are beautiful piazzas and gardens, and you can easily build your days around a few sights, a long lunch and plenty of wandering. I loved taking my daughter on the vintage carousel and playing in the immaculate gardens!
April through May and late September through October is when I would visit. I would avoid July and August, and honestly, I would be cautious about early September too. We visited in September and found it surprisingly hot, which made stroller walks much less enjoyable.
Things to do in Florence, Italy with a baby
- Explore Piazza della Signoria
- Visit the Duomo
- Wander across the Ponte Vecchio
- Spend time in the Boboli Gardens
- Enjoy long Italian lunches
- Stop for gelato
- Explore museums at a relaxed pace
- Wander the city early in the morning and late afternoon when temperatures are cooler
See our 1 day Florence Itinerary for more!
Where to stay in Florence, Italy with a baby
We stayed at Collegio alla Querce, Auberge Resorts Collection, and I would absolutely recommend it for a luxury family trip. The resort gives you a beautiful retreat from the city, which is especially nice when you are traveling with a baby.
19. Tuscany Hill Towns

Italy is one of the best countries to visit with a baby and there are so many regions to consider. If the thought of navigating a busy Italian city with a baby feels overwhelming, consider the Tuscan countryside instead. This is one of those trips where having a stroller and a baby who is not yet running around can actually make things easier.
You can rent a villa and use it as your home base, or stay at a beautiful resort and take day trips to the surrounding towns. Wander through Siena, Pienza, San Gimignano and other hill towns at your own pace, then return to your hotel or villa for a quiet afternoon.
May, June, September and October are my favorite months for Tuscany. Spring brings beautiful green landscapes and wildflowers, while September and October offer warm days, harvest season and generally more comfortable temperatures for exploring the hill towns with a baby. I would avoid the hottest part of July and August when possible. We were there in September and got to catch harvest season, but it was still very hot.
Things to do in Tuscany with a baby
- Explore Siena – see our Siena with Kids Itinerary
- Wander through Pienza
- Visit San Gimignano
- Stop in smaller hill towns as you drive through the countryside
- Have long lunches overlooking the vineyards
- Spend afternoons at the pool
- Enjoy slow mornings and evenings at your villa
Where to stay in Tuscany with a baby
A private villa is a great option if you want more space, a kitchen and separate sleeping areas. For a luxury hotel experience, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is one of my favorite choices in Tuscany and gives you the best of both worlds: a beautiful resort where you can relax and an easy base for exploring the region.
The Best Outdoor/Mountain Destinations to Visit with a Baby
If you love spending time outdoors, you don’t have to give that up just because you have a baby. Some of the best places to travel with a baby are mountain destinations, where your days can revolve around fresh air, scenic walks, beautiful views and a hotel you genuinely want to spend time in.
I love the idea of a mountain vacation for families who want a change of pace from the beach or a busy city. You can get outside in the morning, enjoy a leisurely lunch, head back for nap time and spend the evening relaxing at your hotel. And if you’re used to more adventurous trips, you can still enjoy the scenery and explore without planning your days around long or strenuous hikes.
When choosing baby friendly vacations in the mountains, I would prioritize a comfortable hotel, easy access to nature, scenic drives and walks that work with a stroller or baby carrier. You don’t need to summit a mountain to have an incredible trip!
20. The North Carolina Mountains

If you’re looking for baby friendly places to travel that don’t require an international flight, the North Carolina mountains are a wonderful option, especially for families in the Southeast. You can make this a road trip and enjoy a completely different landscape without dealing with airports, international travel or a complicated itinerary.
We took our daughter hiking in Blowing Rock when she was about 10 months old and it was such a fun trip. We explored the charming downtown, enjoyed leisurely hikes with her on our backs in a carrier (this is the carrier) and spent plenty of time outside. It was a great reminder that you don’t have to give up the activities you love when you have a baby. You might just need to adjust your pace a little!
I would also look at Cashiers and Highlands. Each offers a slightly different experience, but all are great for fresh air, scenic drives, charming downtown areas and easy access to the outdoors. You can enjoy mountain views and short walks during the day, then settle into a cozy hotel or cabin for the evening.
May through October is a lovely time for the North Carolina mountains. Summer is especially appealing if you want to escape the heat and humidity of warmer places, while September and October bring beautiful fall foliage. October is particularly popular, so book accommodations early if you want to visit during peak leaf season!

For a luxury stay, I would look at The Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands. It is a lovely option if you want a hotel experience with restaurants, gardens and places to relax without having to drive everywhere. It leans more adult, but kids are welcome!
For a more private family getaway, a rental in Cashiers or Blowing Rock can be a great choice, especially if you want a kitchen, separate sleeping spaces and room to spread out during naps and bedtime.
21. Utah

We actually took our daughter to Utah for our very first trip with her when she was just 2.5 months old and it was such a great place to travel with a newborn. A ski trip with a baby might not be everyone’s idea of a first family vacation, but we had so much fun! We split our stay between The Lodge at Blue Sky and Goldener Hirsch in Deer Valley, and the two properties gave us very different experiences in December.
The Lodge at Blue Sky was honestly such a relaxing trip, especially as a new mom. After giving birth, I loved having a beautiful setting to unwind, enjoy the spa and recover while still getting out into nature. It was a wonderful reminder that a baby friendly vacation doesn’t have to revolve around activities for your little one. Sometimes, the best trip is simply finding a beautiful place where you can relax together. It was so easy that we even strolled her bassinet right into the hotel restaurant and she slept while we had a nice dinner!

We then moved to Goldener Hirsch in Deer Valley. My husband skied while I enjoyed the snowy scenery and the charming atmosphere around the resort. If skiing is important to you, you could consider hiring a sitter for a few hours if you’re comfortable with that, or bring the grandparents along to help with the baby. That way, both parents can enjoy some time doing what they love.
I especially loved Deer Valley at Christmas. Everything felt so festive, from leisurely lunches to après ski, and it was such a lovely place to experience a winter getaway with a little one.
June through September is ideal for a mountain getaway around Park City, with June and September particularly appealing for comfortable temperatures and outdoor activities. December through March is wonderful if you want a snowy ski trip, festive lunches and cozy evenings at the resort. Just plan for cold weather and shorter outdoor outings with a baby.

We split our stay between The Lodge at Blue Sky, Auberge Resorts Collection, and Goldener Hirsch, Auberge Resorts Collection, in Deer Valley, and I loved experiencing both.
The Lodge at Blue Sky would be my pick if you want a peaceful, nature focused retreat that is especially great for a postpartum mom! The spa was a highlight for me and I found it especially restorative as a new mom. It is the kind of place where you can enjoy the outdoors, slow down and feel like you’ve had a proper, peaceful vacation.
Goldener Hirsch is a wonderful option if you want a charming European style ski resort experience. I loved the atmosphere in Deer Valley, especially during the Christmas season, when the snowy setting and festive dining made the trip feel so special.
Both are worth considering for a luxury mountain vacation with a baby, whether you’re visiting for skiing, summer adventures or simply a few days away somewhere beautiful.
22. Switzerland

Switzerland is one of the best places to travel with a baby if you love dramatic mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and charming European towns. You can have an outdoor focused vacation without needing to be an experienced hiker, thanks to scenic train journeys, mountain cable cars, lakeside promenades and gorgeous hotels. I have not taken a baby here personally, but I’ve been to Switzerland a few times and think it could work great in the summer!
I would consider combining Lucerne with a stay in the mountains. Lucerne gives you a charming town to explore, while the surrounding countryside is perfect for slowing down and enjoying the scenery. If you’re looking for a more resort focused experience, Bürgenstock was one of the most incredible wellness focused stays. You can spend your days enjoying the views, relaxing at the hotel’s massive spa and heading out for short adventures.
We’ve also been to Geneva, Bern and Zurich and I love each city for different reasons. You could easily explore any of these with a baby in a carrier.
June through September is ideal for enjoying the mountains, lakes and outdoor activities. July and August are the warmest months, while June and September can be lovely if you prefer slightly quieter surroundings. Spring and fall can also be beautiful!
Things to do in Switerland with a baby
- Stroll along Lake Lucerne
- Explore Lucerne’s charming Old Town
- Take a scenic boat ride on the lake
- Ride a cable car or mountain railway for incredible views
- Enjoy easy lakeside walks
- Spend time at a mountain resort
- Take scenic train journeys through the Swiss countryside
- Enjoy long lunches with a view

Bürgenstock Resort is one I would consider for a luxury mountain getaway. The setting above Lake Lucerne is beautiful, and having a resort with dining, wellness facilities and plenty to enjoy on property makes it easier to keep your schedule flexible.
I would also consider staying in Lucerne itself if you prefer a walkable town with restaurants and sightseeing close by. With a baby, I would choose your hotel based on whether you want a more active trip exploring the region or a relaxing resort stay with a few outings.
The Wrap Up: Best Places to Travel with a Baby Under 1
Your first trip with a baby might feel a little overwhelming to plan, but I promise it can be such a wonderful experience. Some of my favorite travel memories have been trips with our little ones, from taking our daughter to Europe for the first time to bringing our son on his first international trip at just four months old. These are my favorite baby friendly places to travel.
My biggest piece of advice is to choose a destination that fits your family, keep your itinerary flexible, and give yourself permission to slow down. You don’t have to see and do everything to have a great trip. Sometimes, a leisurely lunch, an afternoon walk, or a beautiful hotel where you can relax during nap time is exactly what you need. And remember, this is YOUR postpartum trip too 🙂
