From family-owned cafes to funky themed restaurants, each establishment exudes a welcoming atmosphere where kids can let their imaginations run wild and indulge in their favorite flavors. I am detailing all the best places that have space for kids to run around, room for strollers, and allow mom and dad to relax a little! Don’t miss out on the chance to create lasting memories and satisfy everyone’s appetites at these top kid-friendly restaurants in Charleston!
1. Home Team BBQ
Home Team BBQ – Downtown – is easily a top favorite spot for locals to take their kids. There is plenty of space outside for them to run around and play in the super casual environment. They have chalk boards setup to keep them entertained too. They also have TVs outside so you can still watch football on the weekends! Just maybe avoid on a Saturday during football season when Georgia, Clemson, or Carolina are playing!
2. Edmund’s Oast
Edmund’s Oast is one of my absolute favorites for lunch or dinner – we eat here literally every weekend. The atmosphere is laid-back and casual, with communal tables and a friendly vibe. I love sitting outside in the inviting courtyard for lunch or grabbing a spot at the inside bar for dinner or dessert. There are always tons of families with babies and kids in the courtyard for lunch or early dinner. Very stroller friendly, too! Plus, the kids menu is pretty good too and I often order from it myself! They’ll especially love all of the desserts.
3. Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co.
Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co is THE spot to go with kids. We’ve been almost every weekend since having Camilla 12 weeks ago. It’s located at Pacific Box and Crate complex which has a big turf grass field that is always FILLED with families. Go on Saturday around 3pm and you’ll find kids playing ball and babies taking naps while their parents enjoy craft beers and great food from EOBC! Note: if you take a ball or toy, don’t expect to bring it home.
4. Rancho Lewis
We live right around the corner so frequent Rancho Lewis (located at the same spot as above mentioned EOBC). It’s got a lively patio, ample indoor seating, great bar space, and amazing tex-mex food. The kids menu is great and I actually have been ordering from it a lot lately when we get take out (pregnancy diet lol)! I love the kids cheese quesadilla and bean burrito! Don’t worry the adult food is amazing too – I love their veggie fajitas with peppers, sweet potatoes, rice, beans, and homemade tortillas!
Leisurely tip: we like to take meet friends here for drinks and then order to go food for ourselves to enjoy later once the baby is asleep.
5. Lewis Barbecue
Lewis Barbecue is the sister restaurant to Rancho Lewis. They are known for their Texas style barbecue and especially the brisket. You go through the line to pick your meats, sides, and then enjoy sitting inside or outside on picnic tables under the beautiful oak trees. Very kid friendly restaurant atmosphere. Good for strollers too if you are outside, but would not take the stroller inside!
6. Leon’s Oyster Shop
If you are a foodie visiting Charleston, you’ve likely heard of Leon’s already and it is truly SO good. Some of my favorite days have involved sipping rosé and eating oysters on their patio on a sunny day. It’s very casual, set inside a former car repair shop with the best food. Your kids will love their fried chicken and especially the soft serve ice cream with choice of sprinkles! We have taken our infant daughter here several times – usually outside in the stoller and inside I wore her because space is a bit tight!
7. Park and Grove
The best brunch spot recently turned to a focus on dinner. Either one you choose, you won’t be disappointed at Park and Grove. They have the best bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and to die for cinnamon rolls at breakfast. And for lunch or dinner, I love the farro salad, the citrus salad, and any of their pastas! Plus, the cocktails are always super creative AND they are super accommodating with several amazing mocktails to choose from.
They have outdoor seating which is great for taking a stroller. Nice spot to have a great meal and get to bring the baby along! Pro tip: take a walk through Hampton Park afterwards.
8. Taco Boy
Taco Boy has been in Charleston for years and is a favorite spot among locals. They have locations on Folly and Downtown with great space for groups and kids. The kids menu is fantastic with tacos, burritos, quesadillas and more.
9. Uptown Social
Uptown Social is great during the weekdays for delicious pizzas! Just don’t bring the kids at night as this turns into quite the party scene. 🙂
10. Rodney Scott’s BBQ
Rodney Scott’s is a beloved BBQ restaurant in South Carolina. Order their family meals which includes your bbq meat selection and 2 pints of sides to share with the whole fam! I LOVE his mac n cheese and your kids will too!
11. Coastal Crust Mount Pleasant
Coastal Crust is THE spot to take your kids in Charleston for dinner. They have a great playground with picnic tables all around so they can play while you enjoy. You will always see a bunch of families here and the kids all have fun together. The whole place is outdoors with some covered seating and a covered bar area. I think they have some of the best pizzas in the area – the crust is incredible!
12. Kickin’ Chicken
Kickin’ Chicken has locations all over town with indoor and outdoor dining spaces. It’s super kid friendly – what kid doesn’t like chicken fingers? The menu is sure to please any picky eaters! Be sure to try their famous Kickin’ Chicken Sandwich!!
13. Fleet Landing
Fleet Landing has one of the best views of the water from the outdoor deck. They have a large menu with tons of seafood options so you can have a nice meal, while also appealing to kiddos.
14. Basic Kitchen
Basic Kitchen is one of my favorite spots for plant-based options. Their kids menu is pretty well-rounded with options like veggie sticks, PB&J, grilled salmon with broccoli and quinoa, pasta, burgers, and more. Most items come with a healthier side like an apple or sweet potato fries.
More to come as we take Camilla to more of our favorite spots!
