After visiting Copenhagen more than five times over the years, Hotel Sanders remains one of my favorite places to stay. My husband and I have returned multiple times and it’s one of the first hotels I recommend to clients looking for a luxury boutique hotel in Copenhagen.
In fact, it’s become one of my favorite city boutique hotels in the world so far and I’ve stayed at quite a few! I love the design, the attention to detail, the consistently wonderful service, and the little experiences that make staying here feel special without ever feeling overly formal.
If you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen and appreciate beautiful interiors, locally inspired design, excellent service, and a hotel with plenty of character, here’s why I love Hotel Sanders and why I’d happily stay here again.
And, if you want to book it with my VIP perks like free upgrades, $100 hotel credit, complimentary breakfast daily and more, you can browse on my client self booking portal or inquire with me for help.

Hotel Sanders Design and Atmosphere

One of the first things I fell in love with at Hotel Sanders was the design. The interiors feel warm, layered, and effortlessly elegant, with Danish furniture, beautiful textures, and thoughtful details throughout the property. It is the best hotel for couples or romantic getaways!
I especially love that the design feels connected to Copenhagen rather than like a luxury hotel that could be anywhere in the world. There’s a wonderful balance of contemporary style and vintage touches, and the spaces feel inviting rather than overly polished or formal.
The living room is one of my favorite areas, with its cozy seating, books, candles, and warm lighting. It feels more like a beautiful private residence than a traditional hotel lobby, and it’s part of what makes Sanders so appealing to me.
For travelers who appreciate design and boutique hotels with a strong sense of personality, this is a property I’d absolutely put on your radar.
Hotel Sanders is my favorite boutique hotel in Copenhagen, but the best place to stay really depends on your travel style, budget, and the kind of experience you’re looking for. If you’re still comparing neighborhoods and hotels, I’ve also put together a guide on where to stay in Copenhagen, including my recommendations for different types of trips.
Hotel Sanders Rooms: Standard Double vs. Sanders Bedroom Plus

I’ve stayed in both the Standard Double Room and the Sanders Bedroom Plus and I’d consider the room category carefully when booking.
The Standard Double is a lovely option if you’re planning a shorter city break and expect to spend most of your time out exploring Copenhagen. Like the rest of the hotel, the room reflects the property’s thoughtful design and understated style. But, it can definitely be a bit tight!
If you’re staying for three nights or longer, I’d personally consider upgrading to the Sanders Bedroom Plus. I found it much more spacious, and I think the extra room makes a difference when you want to unpack, settle in, and enjoy your hotel rather than simply have somewhere to sleep between sightseeing.
For me, the Bedroom Plus is worth considering for a longer stay, particularly if you appreciate having a little more breathing room.

My advice is to look beyond the starting room rate and think about how much time you’ll spend in the hotel. For a quick weekend away, the Standard Double may be all you need. For a longer Copenhagen stay, I’d lean toward the Sanders Bedroom Plus.
One of the benefits of booking Hotel Sanders through me is that my clients receive VIP perks during their stay. These include a room upgrade at check-in when available, early check-in and late check-out when available, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a $100 USD hotel credit to use during their stay.

If you’re booking a One-Bedroom Suite or Sanders Suite, there’s another perk worth knowing about. My eligible clients can receive a complimentary one-way airport transfer from Copenhagen Airport, provided it’s booked at least 72 hours in advance through the hotel. This needs to be arranged ahead of time, so let me know if you’d like to take advantage of it when booking your stay.

The Service at Hotel Sanders
The service is consistently top notch and that’s a big part of why I’ve returned to Hotel Sanders.
Luxury isn’t just about beautiful interiors or a well-designed room. It’s also about how you feel throughout your stay and the team here has always made a wonderful impression on me.
When I recommend hotels to clients, I look for properties that deliver on the details as well as the overall experience. Sanders is one of those hotels where the service helps make the stay feel special, without making it feel stuffy!
It’s one of the reasons I’d feel confident recommending it for a special trip to Copenhagen.
My clients also receive a few thoughtful welcome amenities when booking through my hotel partnership, including complimentary Danish chocolates with a personalized welcome card. It’s a lovely touch that fits the hotel’s warm, personal atmosphere.
Depending on availability, early check-in and late check-out can also be arranged, which is particularly helpful when you’re arriving on an early flight or want to make the most of your last day in Copenhagen.
Breakfast at Hotel Sanders: My Favorite Way to Start the Day

If you know me, you know I love a good hotel breakfast. And at Hotel Sanders, one of my favorite things to do is sit outside at the sidewalk café and watch Copenhagen wake up.
There’s something about starting the morning here that feels distinctly local. You’ll often see people from the neighborhood stopping in for breakfast or coffee, along with locals meeting for business. It’s a lovely reminder that you’re staying in a hotel that’s part of the city rather than separate from it.
I could happily linger over breakfast here before heading out to explore. Copenhagen is a city that is meant for a slower pace and this is one of my favorite ways to experience it.
If the weather allows, I’d absolutely recommend sitting outside. Watching the city come to life over breakfast is one of those simple travel experiences that I end up remembering long after a trip.
Breakfast is another reason I love booking my clients here through my hotel partnerships. My clients receive daily breakfast for two as part of their VIP benefits, which is especially lovely at a hotel where breakfast is an experience in itself.
I love sitting outside at the sidewalk café, watching Copenhagen wake up, and seeing locals pop in for coffee or meetings. It’s such a lovely way to start a day in the city and having breakfast included for free makes it even better!
TATA Cocktail Lounge: The Coziest Nightcap
After a full day exploring Copenhagen, one of my favorite ways to end the evening is with a nightcap at TATA Cocktail Lounge. My clients get a $100 hotel credit here (at no extra cost!) so this is a great place to use it 🙂
The booths are so cozy, and the atmosphere feels intimate and inviting. It’s the sort of place where you can settle in for one last drink, talk about the day’s adventures, and enjoy being back at the hotel without feeling like the evening has to end as soon as you return to your room!
I love having a cocktail here after a day in the city. It’s an easy addition to the evening, whether you’re heading out to dinner or coming back after exploring Copenhagen’s restaurants and bars.
For me, these little details are part of what makes Sanders such a great boutique hotel. You don’t have to plan a whole evening around the property to enjoy it. Sometimes, a cozy booth and a nightcap are exactly what you need.
While I love starting the day with breakfast at Sanders and coming back for a nightcap at TATA, Copenhagen has such a wonderful food scene that you’ll want to venture out, too. If you’re deciding where to eat in Copenhagen, I’ve shared more of my favorite restaurants and spots worth adding to your itinerary in my Copenhagen restaurant guide.
Hotel Sanders Location in Copenhagen

Hotel Sanders is located in Copenhagen’s historic city center, just around the corner from Nyhavn. It’s a wonderful base for exploring the city, with restaurants, shopping, and many of Copenhagen’s best-known sights within walking distance.
One of my favorite things about staying at Hotel Sanders is how easy it is to explore the city on foot (or bike!). From wandering around Nyhavn to visiting museums and stopping at little cafés along the way, there is so much to see and do nearby. If you’re planning your itinerary, I’ve also put together a guide to the best things to do in Copenhagen to help you make the most of your stay.
Although you’re close to Nyhavn and the main sights, Sanders has a more tucked-away feel that makes coming back to the hotel especially nice after a busy day.
For a first visit to Copenhagen, I think the location works particularly well. You can experience many of the city’s highlights while still enjoying the feeling of having your own little retreat to return to.
If you’re spending a few days in the city, my 3 day Copenhagen itinerary will help you plan your time, from exploring the main sights to finding time for great food and a few slower moments along the way.
Is Hotel Sanders Worth the Price?
Hotel Sanders is a luxury boutique hotel and I’d approach it as a stay where you’re paying for the overall experience, not just a room in a convenient location. If you are like me and value the hotel experience, you will LOVE Sanders. But, if you think a hotel is a ‘just a place to sleep’, it might not be worth it for you.
For me, the combination of thoughtful Danish design, consistently excellent service, a great location, and spaces I genuinely enjoy spending time in makes it worth considering for a special Copenhagen trip.
I’d particularly recommend it to couples, honeymooners, and travelers who appreciate smaller luxury hotels with character. It’s also a great choice if, like me, you enjoy a hotel that feels like part of the destination and not just somewhere to sleep.
If you’re planning a longer stay, I’d look at the Sanders Bedroom Plus for the additional space. And if breakfast is an important part of your hotel experience, I’d make time to enjoy it outside at the sidewalk café if the weather cooperates!
As with any luxury hotel in Copenhagen, I’d compare current rates and room categories before booking to make sure you’re getting the best value for your trip.

A Few Things to Know Before Booking Hotel Sanders
As much as I love Hotel Sanders, there are a couple of things worth knowing before you book. The hotel doesn’t have a gym or swimming pool, which may be a drawback if those amenities are important to you when choosing a luxury hotel.
The hotel does offer complimentary bikes, which is a nice perk for exploring Copenhagen. That said, it’s first come first serve so we usually rent bikes during our stays. But this isn’t something that makes or breaks our decision to stay here.
The elevator can be slow and is fairly small so we used the stairs quite often, which is fine, but if you have mobility concerns, it’s something to keep in mind.
For me, the lack of a pool or gym isn’t a dealbreaker because I choose Sanders for its design, atmosphere, service, and location. But if you prefer a hotel with more extensive facilities, it’s worth keeping in mind when comparing properties in Copenhagen.

My Final Thoughts on Hotel Sanders
Hotel Sanders is one of my favorite city boutique hotels in the world so far and that’s not a recommendation I make lightly. I’ve stayed at many beautiful hotels over the years and this is one I genuinely look forward to returning to.
I love the Danish furniture and thoughtful design, the service is always top notch, breakfast outside is such a lovely way to start the day, and TATA’s cozy booths are the perfect place for a nightcap after exploring Copenhagen.
It’s the little things that keep bringing me back. Sanders has a distinct personality, but it never feels like it’s trying too hard. It simply gets sooo many of the little details right.
If you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen and want a boutique hotel that feels intimate, stylish, and connected to the city, Hotel Sanders would be one of my VERY first recommendations.
My tip: If you’re staying three nights or longer, compare the Sanders Bedroom Plus with the Standard Double. The additional space made a noticeable difference for me, and I’d consider it a worthwhile upgrade for a longer stay.
