We recently took the most amazing winter getaway out west to Utah. It was the first trip as a family with our 2.5 month old daughter. Most people probably wouldn’t plan a ski trip with a baby, but it was actually the perfect reminder that you CAN take your kids anywhere. We spent a few nights split between the most amazing luxury hotels. The first was Auberge Collection’s The Lodge at Blue Sky before heading over to Goldener Hirsch in Deer Valley for a couple days of skiing. This was surprisingly the perfect combo for several reasons! It was nice to relax at Blue Sky and their spa and indulge in incredible cuisine before hitting the slopes. I’m excited to share all about this amazing property in my The Lodge at Blue Sky Hotel Review!

The location and how to get to The Lodge at Blue Sky
The Lodge at Blue Sky is located in Wanship, Utah which is about a 45 minute drive from Salt Lake City. You will fly into SLC and can either rent a car or have the hotel arrange transportation for you. The property is located on a true ranch with horses, hiking trails and beautiful scenery.
The Rooms at The Lodge at Blue Sky
There are several incredible room types at Blue Sky but we chose to stay in the Creek Houses. I loved the intimate and secluded nature of these freestanding homes along the creek which are adults only. We had one large room with king bed, fireplace, mini bar, balcony, and massive bathrooom with a soaking tub! There was even the perfect spot for a crib (more on this below).
The fireplace was electric and super convenient to turn it off/on via a remote! The mini bar included water and soft drinks, plus a few snacks which were all complimentary. I loved the soaking tub with salts and bath oils provided – they graciously sent me home with my own kit as a thoughtful gift since they knew I was postpartum and returning to work in a couple weeks!
These rooms are about a 5 minute walk up to the lobby/restaurant and spa. We pushed the stroller back and forth and had no problems even in the snow. The hotel does have rooms in the main building which would certainly be more convenient with children and likely more spacious.
Note: These creek houses are typically adults only but we asked if they would make an exception for our 3 month old and they did. I think it was because we were there at a slow time of year plus she’s small enough to not bother any other guests. Don’t expect this if traveling with kids!
Yuta Restaurant at Blue Sky
Wow! Yuta is so good! The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and we tried all three. Plus, they have a kids menu for your little ones.
At dinner we loved the pasta – seafood ravioli and gnocchi were our favorites. Pro tip: make the seafood ravioli dish double and it will work as an entree. We were so surprised by the dessert – we got the Arlette Cookie which had a passion fruit sorbet that was so refreshing. We rolled the stroller in right next to our table. Camilla slept like a baby the entire time 🙏
At breakfast they had all your favorites like overnight oats, smoothies, acai bowls, fresh juices, and more.
The Bar
The bar area is adults only. I believe this is a Utah state law, but not certain. We were able to enjoy drinks in the lobby lounge though which had an insane view and massive fireplace. We loved the bar food and drink menu. The butternut squash pizza is to die for and of course I had to get a soft pretzel. We tried several cocktails though my favorite was a mezcal one called the Saddleback Sipper. It had a smoky mezcal paired with fig, pear spiced liquor, cinnamon and vanilla flavors!
The Edge Spa
The Edge Spa was definitely a highlight for me. I would put this up there in my top 3 favorite spas for the massage itself and I have been to some pretty incredible spas around the world so you can trust me. The treatment room was beautiful with a floor to ceiling window looking toward the mountains – during the massage they bring the shade down for privacy.
The locker room had a sauna and steam room along with showers and plenty of space to get ready.
I loved the relaxation room with incredible views of the mountain plus tasty snacks, juices, teas, etc. There was also a private outdoor pool to relax and enjoy the views after your treatment.
Infinity Pool
The infinitely pool is right below the restaurant and next to the spa. It’s a great sized heated pool to enjoy the mountain skyline.
High West Distillery
We had brunch at High West Distillery which is a separate entity located a short drive from the hotel on property. Their team will transfer you over in their vehicles.
Sunday brunch is a buffet which I normally don’t expect to be good, but this was a great buffet style brunch with hot and cold options. They had literally everything you could want with things like salmon, cast iron skillet cinnamon rolls, pasta salad, pancakes, a carving station, dessert bar, eggs benedict, yogurt & granola, biscuits and gravy, etc. There were tons of vegetarian options too like bean chili, chips and guac, veggie hash, a big salad, and fresh fruit!
Of course you have to try the cocktails – we had the Dead Man’s Boots which is bourbon, tequila, lime and ginger beer! If you have time, a distillery tour would be fun too.
Experiences and Things to Do at The Lodge at Blue Sky
There is plenty to do on this gorgeous ranch property. Here are a few things they offer depending on the season:
- Dogsledding
- Hiking
- Snowshoeing
- Biking
- Axe Throwing
- Sporting Clays
- Yoga
- Fly Fishing
- Culinary Classes
- Rock Climbing
- Little Vaqueros Camp
- and more!
Kid-friendly Nature
The Lodge at Blue Sky is VERY kid friendly and imagine it’s a great place to bring them in the summer to connect with nature. They have hiking trails and even an equestrian center for horse back riding. You can send the kids to the Little Vaqueros camp and enjoy adult time too! The team was so nice about having a baby – everyone stopped to ask about her and offer assistance from high chair to kids menus, etc.
We had an amazing time staying at Blue Sky Lodge Auberge and can’t say enough wonderful things about our time there. I hope to return in the summer when our daughter is bigger to enjoy all the ranch style activities!
