When I came across the hotel voted as the #1 best resort hotel in the US according to Travel and Leisure readers, I knew I had to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find the most charming, Bavarian inspired hotel rooms that were exactly what I wanted for a cosy winter escape. I’m thrilled to tell you guys all about our experience at the Goldener Hirsch, Auberge Collection hotel! It felt like a European escape tucked away in Utah.
The Goldener Hirsch has long been a beloved Deer Valley hotel only recently acquired by luxury hotel brand, Auberge. The older Austrian styled inn is combined with brand new, modern suites all under one roof making it the perfect spot for your next winter ski trip. I’m sharing all about our stay which happened to be our first family vacation with our 2.5 month old! We went at the beginning of December and it was beautifully decorated for a festive holiday.
You may recognize the hotel if you watched Netflix’s “Falling for Christmas” with Lindsay Lohan! It was the main setting for the film and beautifully showcases the property. Check it out before your trip to get excited! 🙂

Location
The Goldener Hirsch is located at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. It is about a 45 minute drive from Salt Lake City Airport which was so convenient to reach the slopes so quickly! What I love about the location is it is for SKIING only – no snowboarders. This makes it great for avid skiers and families with young children that might be learning to ski. Deer Valley is a small little resort town with a few hotels right along the slopes. You will have ski in/ski out access and a host of great restaurants, shops, and ski rental companies all within a few steps.
Goldener Hirsch also has a sister property located in Salzburg, Austria! Check it out here.
The Rooms at Goldener Hirsch
We chose to stay in the original and more traditional rooms at the the Goldener Hirsch. I fell in love with the Austrian charm, the gorgeous furniture, detailed wood work on the balconies and real wood burning fireplaces in the rooms! Our room was a one bedroom suite with separate bedroom from the living area which was perfect for traveling with our newborn. The bed was comfy and we had plenty of space. I loved having a small bar with sink and refrigerator which was great for storing milk/cleaning bottles. The balcony overlooked the slopes so we had a great view too.
The hotel provided a real crib plus thoughtful amenities for our little babe – coterie diapers, a baby washcloth, and blanket to keep!
They will come light the fireplace for you in the evenings so be sure to order room service one night for a cosy night in!
The Goldener Hirsch Restaurant
The Goldener Hirsch restaurant is located on the original side of the Inn with access from within the hotel or the street if you’re just visiting. It features a Bavarian inspired menu with things like fondue, schnitzel, seafood towers, and even vegan options like a cauliflower steak or winter roasted vegetables. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner! This restaurant also provides room service which we definitely indulged in!
Après Ski Lounge
Outside the restaurant is the brand new Après Ski Lounge which is perfect for enjoying a cocktail by the warm fire.
The Kitz Breakfast Bar and Antler Lounge
I loved grabbing breakfast at The Kitz and sitting in the Antler Lounge by the big fire! You can also sit in the lounge in the afternoon for snacks/drinks after a day on the slopes. Additionally, there is a big outdoor veranda overlooking the mountain.
Rooftop Pool, Sauna, and Fitness Center
The rooftop pool is a big draw at this hotel! There is a good sized pool, plus infinity hot tub overlooking the mountains. A great place to warm up and relax your muscles! Grab your robe and beanie and head up to the top floor for the most incredible afternoon views! You’ll also find access to the sauna, gym and showers at this level.
Ski Valet at the Goldener Hirsch
One of my favorite amenities is the ski valet located right inside the hotel. They have a group that provides valet service for renting skis, boots, etc and a convenient locker to store your personal items. If that’s not your speed, check out Christy’s ski rentals right outside the hotel too.
Kid-Friendly
I want to note how baby/kid/family friendly the hotel was! They provided luxury amenities for baby including coterie diapers and a nice crib that she slept great in. We also traveled with our slumberpod and it easily fit over the crib. The room had a refrigerator for storing milk/snacks and a sink for washing bottles. The restaurant features kid menus. They had sweet activities for kids around the holidays like a station to mail letters to Santa and gingerbread making classes! Everyone was so accommodating to children and really kind! Highly recommend if taking your family to ski this winter!
I hope this Goldener Hirsch hotel review has been helpful! I have no doubts this hotel will be the perfect setting for your next winter ski trip. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments – always happy to help!
