Best Vacation Spots in U.S. for Couples
If you are looking for a quick romantic getaway for 2-3 nights, these US cities should be added to your list. I’m sharing all about why I love them for a romantic getaway and the best hotels!
1. Charleston, South Carolina
First, Charleston, South Carolina is easily the best city in the US for a romantic getaway. With its colorful facades, cobblestone streets, and flickering gas lanterns, the city oozes with charm and romance. I’m a Charleston local so I know how great it is for couples and I admit that I may be a little biased!
Stay at one of the many boutique hotels in Charleston, take a walking tour through the historic district, shop on King Street, catch sunset from a rooftop bar, and finish the day with dinner at one of my favorite romantic restaurants in Charleston, Chez Nous. Dine amidst the candlelight at this quaint restaurant inside an old Charleston style home serving a rotating menu.
If you prefer the beach, head out to Kiawah Island to stay at the all new Auberge Collection resort, The Dunlin. The resort is set along the Kiawah river with picturesque views of the surrounding waterways. The Dunlin is stylishly designed by Amanda Lindroth with pastel hues and plenty of whimsical touches. Spend your days paddle boarding through the Lowcountry marshes, indulging at the hotel spa, or take a private boat to spend the day on the beach in your own cabana!

2. San Francisco & Napa Valley, California
Napa Valley or Sonoma make for the perfect romantic getaway for couples. The ideal time to visit is during harvest season in September to see the vines full of grapes, however, you can visit year round!
Fly into San Francisco and enjoy a day walking the Golden Gate Bridge, dining at the best restaurants, seeing the Painted Ladies, and winding down famous Lombard Street.
Then, make the hour drive to Napa Valley for a weekend of wine tasting. You’ll check out some amazing vineyards for tours, dine in downtown Napa, and have plenty of time to unwind at the spa. In the evenings, cozy up around a fireplace with a glass of your favorite red!
From the wine tastings to the amazing hotels, Napa makes a great destination for couples looking to enjoy a long weekend.
Where to Stay in Napa Valley, California for Couples:
- Montage Healdsburg – If you want privacy and vineyard views everywhere you look, this is it.
- MacArthur Place Hotel and Spa – Think cozy cottages, a relaxed vibe, and an easy home base for tasting rooms.
- Auberge de Soleil – adults-focused hillside escape with panoramic valley views and one of the most romantic restaurants in Napa Valley.
- Carneros Resort and Spa – You’ll get cottage-style living with space to spread out. It feels laid-back but still elevated, which I think is ideal for a couples’ weekend.
- The Lodge at Sonoma Resort – comfortable, central option that keeps things easy. You can expect quick access to downtown Sonoma without overcomplicating your trip.
- The Westin Verasa Napa – this is where we have stayed – If walkability matters to you, this is a great pick. It’s right in downtown Napa, so you can stroll to dinner and wine bars without needing to drive!

3. Wanship and Park City, Utah
Whether winter or summer, Utah is a great idea for a couples trip in the US. You can enjoy a fun filled weekend of skiing in the winter or exploring National Parks in the summer time! My husband and I visited in winter and split our time between two amazing Auberge properties right outside of Salt Lake City!
You can take notes from our trip and visit the Lodge at Blue Sky in Wanship, Utah for a romantic weekend in one of their creek villas where you can book spa appointments, dine at their amazing restaurant Yuka, and hike the trails. It’s the ultimate luxury retreat offering a secluded escape.
If it’s winter, the snow will make it all the more romantic. Plus, you can pop over to Deer Valley Resort right above Park City to stay at the Bavarian inspired Goldener Hirsch like we did for a couple days of skiing and aprés ski!
This trip makes a great combination of relaxation and adventure for a memorable couples trip idea. We loved our time spent between these two incredible properties!
4. New York City, New York
There is something about New York City during the holidays that is so romantic. If you are planning a couples vacation around the holiday season, look no further than the Big Apple. While you can of course visit year-round, this time of year just seems so romantic and happy to me.
You two will love ice skating at Rockefeller Center, catching a performance on Broadway, wandering Central Park, and seeing the city all lit up with towering Christmas trees and decorations!

5. Washington, DC
Head to our nation’s capital city for a fun vacation for couples filled with history, museums, shopping, and amazing cuisine. My husband and I have been several times together and it is always a treat!
Stay at The Line Hotel which is housed inside a former church, bike to all the monuments, see the Monet’s at the National Gallery, and enjoy drinks overlooking the White House.
On our most recent trip, we stayed at The Rosewood in Georgetown and it’s so charming! The perfect spot to walk around, shop and dine at some really good restaurants. It has a more intimate and historic feel which I love for a couples weekend.
If you can go in the spring time, plan to catch Cherry Blossom season to see the city blooming with these pink flowers! Sooo romantic and perfect if you are planning a proposal or even a couples photoshoot! 😉 But, the fall foilage on our last trip was so beautiful as well so you can’t go wrong! It was early November and they were already putting up holiday decor too.
With direct flights from so many cities, Washington, DC makes an easy weekend trip for its accessibility.
6. Miami, Florida
If you want to head somewhere warm and easy to reach, Miami is a great spot for a romantic weekend getaway. Fly into Miami International Airport and make the 20 minute drive to South Beach.
While it’s known for its vibrant nightlife, Miami has so much more to offer couples. Of course, you’ll want to spend your days on South Beach, but in the afternoons visit the shopping district, art museums, and international restaurants across the city.
I visited Miami for my babymoon recently where we stayed at the fabulous 1Hotel South Beach, relaxed at the beach, visited the spa, and dined on international cuisine at places like Mandolin and Le Jardinier.

7. Rosemary Beach, Florida
If you aren’t familiar with 30A, it is a highway that runs along the Florida panhandle from Destin to Panama City Beach. I know what your thinking – the spring break destinations? Beyond that, this highway connects tons of charming seaside towns like Seaside, Alys Beach, and Rosemary Beach.
For a romantic couples weekend, book your stay at the Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach where you will be steps away from white sand beaches and clear water. Enjoy a Caribbean feel, without needing a passport!
There is plenty to do besides the beach like shopping, biking, boating, or checking out the farmers market.
You can choose between two airports, Destin-Fort Walton Airport or Panama City Beach Airport, both within a 40 minutes drive to Rosemary Beach.

8. Palm Beach, Florida
One more Florida destination because the year round warm weather makes it ideal for romantic getaways!
Palm Beach is located on the Atlantic side of Florida right below Jupiter. It is known for its luxury resorts like The Breakers, upscale shopping on Worth Avenue, and its beautiful beaches.
I would check into the all new Four Seasons Palm Beach a 5 star, 5 diamond resort located right along the beach front. Enjoy relaxing in a private poolside cabana for the day, rent a MOKE to drive along Worth Avenue, or experience the Everglades on a private airboat tour of this amazing natural resource within an hour drive. In the evening, enjoy a cocktail class, sunset sail, or book a beachside dinner for two!
9. Savannah, Georgia
Imagine walking along cobblestone streets beneath centuries old oak trees as the Spanish moss blows in the breeze. How romantic! Savannah, Georgia is a fantastic spot to enjoy a couples trip whether it is an anniversary, special occasion, or “just because”!
I am from nearby Charleston so I’ve spent countless days here enjoying Savannah!
Check in to The Perry Lane Hotel and head to their rooftop for cocktails overlooking the city. Enjoy wandering through the historic squares like Forsyth Park, dining at renowned restaurants like the Old Pink House or Husk and strolling along the Riverfront.

10. Maui, Hawaii
If you’re on the West Coast, Maui is one of the easiest ways to turn a long weekend into something that feels truly far away. Nonstop flights from LAX or SFO get you to Hawaii in about six hours, and you’re suddenly in a completely different pace of life which is great for a long weekend vacation for couples!
What makes Maui ideal for a long weekend getaway for couples is how much you can experience without rushing. You can spend one day unwinding on Wailea’s beaches, another driving the iconic Road to Hana with waterfall stops, and wake up early to watch sunrise above the clouds at Haleakalā National Park. It gives you relaxation and adventure in one quick trip.
For a romantic home base, check into Hotel Wailea. It’s adults-only, intimate, and tucked into lush hillside gardens with ocean views. You’ll experience private-feeling suites, quiet pool days, and sunset dinners that make a long weekend feel like a true escape.

11. New Orleans, Louisiana
A sister city to Savannah and Charleston, New Orleans offers familiar Southern charm with an entirely different energy. Yes, you’ll experience historic architecture and walkable streets, but a weekend getaway here feels more vibrant!
New Orleans is known for its Creole cuisine, live music, and electric nightlife. While most people think of Bourbon Street, there is so much more to love. For a romantic long weekend, couples can wander the oak-lined streets of the Garden District, listen to live jazz in intimate clubs, and linger over candlelit dinners at some of the most romantic restaurants. It’s the kind of quick trip where you can truly unplug and just enjoy each other.

Whether summer or winter, Jackson Hole offers endless adventures for a fun couples trip in the US.
In the winter, Jackson is a cozy winter escape where you can hit the slopes for a day of skiing, unwind at the spa, and go dog sledding through the snow covered forest.
In the summer time, go shopping in downtown Jackson, day trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and hit the trails for a hike. Either way, you and your significant other are in for a treat!

13. Sedona, Arizona
Sedona, Arizona is an excellent place for couples to travel if you want to blend a weekend of wellness with a moderate amount of adventure.
Check into the Enchantment Resort, a secluded vacation spot nestled among the red rocks of Boynton Canyon. Book one of the casitas for the most romantic rooms on property with a private patio overlooking this iconic view. This hotel is so high on my bucket list!
The resort features one of the best wellness spas in the US, Mii Amo, with its traditional services like massage and body work to more unique offerings like meditations and sound therapy.
Additionally, with its convenient access to Boynton Canyon, you can choose from over 50 trails to hike at your own pace or with an experienced guide.
Best Weekend Getaways for Couples Near the US
These international destinations can easily be reached from the United States making them the best weekend getaways for couples. If you have a long weekend like for the MLK holiday or can swing at least 3-4 nights, these are amazing shorter vacations! Of course, some of these are depending on where you live in the US.
14. Mexico City, Mexico
Next on our list of the best weekend getaways for couples is Mexico, City. CDMX is easy to reach for a long weekend with direct flights available from many cities including Miami, Dallas, and Atlanta.
My husband and I took a long weekend trip to CDMX in December as a Christmas present. We went for the foodie scene, but fell in love with this amazing city for its vibrant atmosphere and cultural experiences.
Dine at the best restaurants in Mexico City like Pujol, visit the floating gardens of Xochimilco, have a Mezcal tasting, and tour the Frida Kahlo Museum. Stay at the super chic Four Seasons Mexico City located right next to Bosque de Chapultepe – basically the Central Park of Mexico perfect for morning strolls!
15. San Juan, Puerto Rico
While Puerto Rico is not within the mainland of the United States, it IS a US territory. This designation means you do not need a passport to visit. Plus, they use the US dollar making it very easy for US travelers looking for a romantic getaway.
You will fly into SJU before making the 20 minute drive to San Juan, the capital city of Puerto Rico. Stay in the historic old town or in the Condado area along the beach. Old San Juan is super romantic with its cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and historic forts to explore – it reminds me of Charleston in many ways.
There is much more to do than the old town on this exciting island. Visit El Yunque, the only rainforest in the US National Park System, to explore the trails, waterfalls, and swim in the lagoons. Additionally, you’ll want to spend time on the white sand beaches, take a snorkeling trip, and sip piña coladas on a sunset sail!
I chose Puerto Rico for my bachelorette party over a 3-day weekend and I’m dying to go back with my husband.

16. Costa Rica
Costa Rica is more accessible from the United States than you may realize. From Dallas, you can reach Liberia airport in just 4 hours nonstop and in only 3 hours 10 minutes from Miami International Airport. It is easy to spend a long weekend getaway in Costa Rica.
Stay in Guanacaste on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast at Casa Chameleon, an adults only hotel. At the hotel, you will have your own villa with private plunge pool for the ultimate romantic retreat. The hotel’s onsite restaurant overlooks the infinity pool and Pacific Ocean with panoramic views at sunset.
Outside of the resort, you’ll find plenty of adventure! Enjoy a day trip to the rainforest and volcanoes, take a surf lesson, and catch a sunset sail. We absolutely loved visiting Casa Chameleon and have to say our surf lesson arranged through the resort was the most fun day!

17. Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos makes for a wonderful Caribbean getaway with only a 2 hour and 55 minute direct flight from Charlotte, NC.
The tropical island sits on one of the largest reefs in the world brimming with sea life and turquoise waters. If you want to feel like you have landed in Bora Bora, definitely consider a weekend getaway to Turks and Caicos!

18. Tulum, Mexico
Tulum is one of the hottest places to go over the past few years, and for good reason. It is one of those places that does not seem real. The dreamy beach destination has the whitest sand and the bluest water, seen best from the cenotes, and is brimming with ancient mayan history at the Tulum ruins.
If that weren’t enough, it is filled with the trendiest eco-friendly hotels, open-air restaurants with quintessential “tulum decor”, and is highly wellness-oriented.
