Winter Babymoon Destinations in USA
Some of my favorite spots in the USA for a babymoon during winter. These are all easy to access via a major airport so you aren’t spending a lot of time traveling or in the car once you get there. Whether you are looking for something warm or a snowy escape, I have you covered.
Utah
I recently visited Utah as our first family trip and was blown away! We stayed at The Lodge at Blue Sky which is located on a gorgeous ranch 40 minutes from Salt Lake City. It was the perfect wintery retreat with a luxe spa, incredible restaurant and cozy atmosphere. You can still have a snowy vacation that does not involve skiing (which is clearly not recommended while pregnant).
Leisurely tip: Plan to rent some winter items like coats and sweaters so you don’t have to buy maternity wear!
Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston is always a good idea. While the winter most likely won’t be beach weather, there is still plenty to do in this charming southern town. December – February in Charleston could offer any type of weather – I live here and last weekend was 30s, but tomorrow is going to be 70! (written in January)
Enjoy some time at the spa, indulge in delicious cuisine, and do some shopping on King Street to prepare for baby to be!
Miami, Florida
I took a babymoon trip to Miami in August and it was hot! Winter is definitely the best time of year to be in Miami with more comfortable temps so you can lounge by the beach and soak up some sun! Miami has a great dining scene and incredible shopping districts. Make sure to book a hotel with a spa so you can be pampered with a prenatal massage. Read all about my Miami babymoon below.
New York City, New York
Take advantage of the holiday season in New York. Enjoy a magical trip tasting different cuisines, go ice skating at Rockefeller Center, do some shopping, and admire all the Christmas decor. Stay at The Pendry or brand new Aman New York hotel for the swankiest hotel experience!
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is always fun and so much more than Bourbon Street. If you’ve been before (in your 20s like me) maybe it was likely a much different pace. Now that we’re adults, head to New Orleans to really take in the culture, restaurant scene, and beauty. Stay at the iconic Hotel Monteleone, listen to some jazz, and eat at some of the best restaurant like Commander’s Palace, Saint Germain, and Cafe du Monde for beignets!
Santa Barbara, California
Santa Barbara has plenty to offer from incredible coastlines to soaring mountains. Only a short drive from Los Angeles you can reach this beach town in no time. Known for its Spanish-Mediterranean style architecture, culture and cuisine, you can’t go wrong with Santa Barbara for a babymoon. Stay at the most charming boutique hotel, El Encanto (a Belmond hotel) with a serene swimming pool, onsite spa, and delicious restaurants. Enjoy a scenic hike, take a bike ride along the shore, visit the Old Santa Barbara Mission, and plan a picnic at the beach.
Best Luxury Hotels in Santa Barbara:
- El Encanto, a Belmond Hotel
- The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara
- Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore
- Rosewood Miramar Beach
Winter Babymoon Destinations in Europe
While Europe will not be warm in the wintertime, there are so many great destinations to take in all that this season has to offer. From Christmas markets in Germany to snowy Copenhagen to a train ride through Switzerland, Europe is bursting with opportunities.
I flew all over Europe from Italy, Switzerland and Denmark while pregnant and it truly was not bad. Everyone is SO kind to pregnant women in Europe – you get to board early and go to the special security lines! If you can splurge on an upgrade to first class (for an overnight leg) that will definitely make a difference.
Paris, France
Paris is always a good idea even if it’s cold. Visit in the winter season to enjoy a display of dazzling lights. From about November through February, the city puts up lights along the Champs-Elysées making it even more charming! Stroll through the iconic museums with fewer crowds and to escape any wintry weather. Sip coffee in quaint cafes and dine at the best restaurants.
London, England
London is a great babymoon option from the US as it’s a quick(ish) 8 hour flight from the East Coast. You could even go for a long weekend if you can’t take a full week long vacation. Plan an afternoon high tea, see a performance at the Globe Theater, visit Westminster Abbey, and be sure to try some fish and chips! It will definitely be chilly so bundle up with some warm winter gear – Nuuly is a great option while pregnant so you can just rent winter coats!
Best Hotels in London
- The Dorchester
- Rosewood London
- The Ritz London
- Four Seasons at Ten Trinity Square
- Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane
- The Hoxton Shoreditch
- The Hoxton Holborn
- Nomad London, Covent Garden
Copenhagen, Denmark
We love Copenhagen. It is one of my favorite places to visit – I’ve been 3 times now. It is a beautiful city with so much history, culture, and is known for being a top foodie destination. Head to Copenhagen for some of the top dining experiences in the world at restaurants like Noma, Geranium and The Alchemist as well as plenty of lesser known favorites. In the winter, expect to see snow in Copenhagen and of course that makes it all the more hygge! Stay at my favorite hotels – Hotel Sanders or Villa Copenhagen.
Best Copenhagen Hotels:
- Hotel Sanders – Luxury boutique property in walking distance to Nyhavn – very hygge! We love staying here when we visit.
- Villa Copenhagen – A newer hotel that I am loving in Copenhagen!
Switzerland
Switzerland might be my favorite European country. The landscape and small city charm is unmatched. I adore both Geneva and Zurich – two of the biggest cities in Switzerland. During the wintertime, plan a train ride through Switzerland to experience all the best parts of it. Stay at my favorite hotel – Burgenstock Resort and Spa – for the ultimate luxury retreat. It is one of the best spas in all of Europe with an insane infinity pool overlooking Lake Lucerne. It could not be more perfect for a relaxing babymoon!
Since you will likely fly into either Geneva or Zurich spend a few nights exploring the city, staying at luxury hotels, and trying the local flavors – make sure to get some fondue!
Germany
Why not make the most of a winter vacay and head to Germany over the month of December to see the Christmas markets. German Christmas Markets can be found all over the country with some of the top ones being Dresdner Striezelmarkt, Leipzig Christmas Market, Düsseldorf Christmas Market, Berlin Christmas Market, and Cologne Christmas Markets. It’s the perfect place to find a keepsake for your baby to be while sipping on hot chocolate.
Winter Babymoon Destinations in Mexico, Caribbean and Central America
If you are up for an international trip, not too far of a flight and want to be warm, here are the top places to plan your babymoon. I love each of these tropical locales.
You might be wondering if Zika is still a thing. There are currently no reported outbreaks so you can feel safe traveling. Check the latest guidelines for Zika and of course check with your healthcare provider.
Leisurely Tip: if you are a Delta Amex card holder, they have recently announced that the companion pass now applies to Mexico and the Caribbean (no longer only domestic US flights). Take your babymoon flight for FREE!
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
There are plenty of great places to visit in Mexico, but I would pick Cabo as my first choice. It’s warm year round and there are tons of water based activities to enjoy. Plan to spend a day sailing to the iconic El Arco (The Arch) which is a scenic natural rock formation. If you are more adventurous, Cabo is known for whale watching so take a tour to spot these magnificent creatures. The best months to catch them are November – March.
Best Luxury Babymoon Hotels in Cabo:
- Waldorf Astoria Pedregal
- Montage Los Cabos
- Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort – spa and wellness oriented
- One&Only Palmilla – in San Jose del Cabo
- Esperanza, Auberge Resorts
- Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection
San Juan, Puerto Rico
I went to San Juan for my bachelorette party and have been wanting to take my husband. It’s a great place for a couples trip! With a short flight from the East Coast, you can easily make it a long weekend babymoon destination. Explore the rainforest, relax on the beach, learn about the Spanish history, and take a sunset sail!
Best Babymoon Hotels in San Juan:
Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos has become a very popular island in the Caribbean lately. It’s really easy to reach as it sits right past The Bahamas with plenty of direct flights from the East Coast. It is surrounded by one of the largest reefs in the world making it ideal for diving and fishing.
If Bora Bora is out of the budget or is too far, this is your next best choice as it is similar to the atolls of the South Pacific.
I would go simply for the amazing, luxury resorts like Amanyara and Pine Cay.
Best Hotels in Turks and Caicos
- Amanyara – secluded luxury retreat
- Pine Cay – private island
- COMO Parrot Cay – the most peaceful rooms and villas
- Grace Bay Beach Club – best area for snorkeling if you are an adventurous mama-to-be
Costa Rica
Get a taste of the “pura vida” lifestyle down in Costa Rica. This Central American country is known for its biodiversity featuring volcanoes, rainforests, and beaches. It’s also home to exotic wildlife including parrots, sloths, and monkeys!
Stay at Casa Chameleon Hotel, an adults only resort perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect intimate spot for your tropical getaway to Costa Rica. The hotel can coordinate activities for you like a day trip to the rainforest, sunset sail, in-room massages, yoga and more. But you really don’t have to leave the resort with your own private infinity pool!
Mexico City, Mexico
Mexico City is the perfect place to visit in the winter with comfortable temperatures in the 70s. It is a food lover’s dream with many of the world’s best restaurants like Pujol, Quintonil, and Rosetta which have all made the top of many foodie lists. From street tacos to China Town to fine dining, there’s something for everyone in Mexico City. It makes a great babymoon spot as it is easy to reach with plenty of cultural activities to enjoy!
Leisurely Tip: If you visit in December, the Christmas decorations will be up!
Tulum, Mexico
There are endless options for places to visit in Mexico for your babymoon. I suggest heading to the ultra chic beach destination known as Tulum which is now super accessible via the new Tulum Airport.
Tulum is home to ancient mayan ruins, bright blue cenotes, white sandy beaches and a dynamic restaurant scene. Tulum is very wellness oriented so expect yoga classes, plenty of vegan options, and health conscious travelers. Stay at one of the many chic beachside hotels like Hotel Panamera for an intimate setting.
