Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas is an adults only hotel located above the beautiful town of Las Catalinas. The town is a fairly new development with villas, dining, shopping, and is completely walkable – no cars allowed!
Casa Chameleon is perched above the town on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect intimate spot for your tropical getaway to Costa Rica! From the breathtaking sunsets, to epic adventures, to blissful accommodations, Casa Chameleon hotel offers the ultimate in luxury vacations!
My top suggestion would be to pair this amazing hotel with a stay their other property, Casa Chameleon at Mal Pais. It has just 10 villas set in a remote part of the Costa Rican jungle! Spend 4 nights at one and 4 at the other soaking up more of Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity.
How to Get to Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas
Getting to Las Catalinas from the US is pretty simple with many direct flights from Miami, Texas, Atlanta, Denver, Boston, NYC, California and more. You will fly into Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport or easier to say, Liberia Guanacaste Airport (LIR) which is about a one hour drive from the town and Casa Chameleon Hotel.
Be sure to ask the hotel to arrange transportation. Their driver picked us up from the airport and stocked the car with cold beers to enjoy for the hour ride. On arrival, we were greeted with fresh fruit skewers and a welcome juice before being escorted to our suite!
The Villas at Casa Chameleon
The accommodations at Casa Chameleon Las Catalinas are ultra luxurious villas tucked seamlessly into nature. You walk into the room to find the king bed room with big windows that open up to the patio. Past the bedroom is a large bathroom to the side, complete with shower that leads to the patio so you have an indoor/outdoor shower option! The large deck features your very own infinity plunge pool with lounge chairs and room for yoga! One of my favorite thoughtful features is the room keys shaped like chameleons. And, one of my markers for a great hotel – a portable speaker in the room so you can listen to music at the pool. 10/10 recommend Bob Marley’s greatest hits playlist on Spotify!
The Main Infinity Pool
The infinity pool at Casa Chameleon is absolutely one of the highlights. It’s stunningly beautiful to lounge, take a dip, and drink margaritas! At sunset, there are flames lit around the perimeter making it even more gorgeous. Since we are on the West Coast, the sun sets over the ocean – my favorite!
Leisurely Tip: Ask if you can ring the gong! Once a day, the sunsets and they ring the gong signaling for the flames to be lit around the pool.
Sentido Norte – Dining at Casa Chameleon
The main restaurant at Casa Chameleon is called Sentido Norte and it is great! Sentido Norte is an award winning restaurant featuring Costa Rican classics in the best atmosphere. CNN even called them one of the world’s most romantic restaurants! It is open to the public so make reservations!
Breakfast was included in our rate so we dined there as well each morning to the freshest fruit, omelets, yogurts, smoothies, and more! Not to mention, fabulous views!
Leisurely Tip: Book the super private table for two located down by the pool (pictured below) for the most romantic dinner!!
Amenities and Things to Do at Casa Chameleon
With your own private plunge pool, there is hardly a reason to leave your villa. However, you would miss out on all of the beauty and adventure of Costa Rica! Here are a few things to do on and off property. The hotel can help arrange any excursions you might be interested in.
Surf with Mojo Adventures
First, you must take a surf lesson when in Costa Rica! This was one of my favorite travel experiences anywhere. The hotel booked this for us and we had the absolute best time with our local guides. They pick you up and take you to their remote surf spot – nobody else was there – and even stop to pick up fresh fruit on the way so you can enjoy later. One guy even had a professional camera and took photos of us – totally unexpected, but these action shots were hilarious to look back on. Here’s a good one:
Paddleboard
Secondly, we had the hotel arrange a morning for us to paddleboard. You head down to Las Catalinas and the surf shop there will get you setup. After, have lunch at Limonada – one of the best little spots for tacos or tuna burgers!!
Sunset Sail
Have the hotel arrange a sunset sail for you! This was so much fun. We booked with a group on a catamaran that allowed us to see the whole coastline offering such a different perspective. We had drinks, snacks, and stopped for a chance to snorkel or take a dip in the ocean.
Book a Massage in Your Villa
While Casa Chameleon does not have a spa, they can bring the spa to your villa. We had massages on the porch overlooking the ocean! Would you believe this was my very first ever massage? Really set the bar high here!
Practice Yoga
The hotel offers yoga classes on their gorgeous rooftop overlooking the Pacific Coast.
Las Catalinas Town
Head down to the main town of Las Catalinas. It’s the cutest little development with a few great restaurants, beaches, wine bar, grocery, and spa. You can even catch a glimpse of the monkeys jumping through the treetops!
Day Trips to Arenal Volcano, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Rainforest and More
The hotel will also setup rainforest excursions for you. As much as I wanted to see a sloth, we did not visit the rainforest since it’s a long drive. We decided to relax and enjoy the hotel and coast this trip.
Take a day trip to experience this incredible volcano and national park.
Visit this incredible forest on a day tour from Guanacaste. You will get to experience this incredible ecotour that takes you into the misty forest spotting frogs, lizards, butterflies, and other wildlife. It is one of the most biodiverse regions in Costa Rica.
