Here are my favorite destinations in March!
Starting with my favorite places that I have traveled in March!
1. Mendoza, Argentina

March is hands down the best time to visit Mendoza. It’s harvest season in Argentina, which means the vineyards are heavy with grapes and the energy is high. We visited in early March and loved getting to walk through the vines and pop a grape or two right off the vine for a taste.
Since it’s late summer in the Southern Hemisphere, the days were warm and sunny, but we noticed the first hint of fall in the evenings when the breeze picked up and we’d throw on a light sweater for sunset.
This is such a special time to experience Mendoza especially if you love food and wine. The wineries in Mendoza are buzzing with activity, and many offer harvest experiences or tasting menus that highlight the season. Pair that with views of the Andes and it’s hard to imagine a more picturesque wine country escape.
Where to Stay in Mendoza, Argentina

We stayed at The Vines Resort & Spa in the Uco Valley and I’d book it again in a heartbeat. It was recently named the #1 resort in South America and the #6 hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure readers and for good reason. Check rates here!
The location is absolutely stunning, surrounded by vineyards with the Andes as your backdrop. The villas are spacious and serene, and the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay special.
Make sure to book dinner at Siete Fuegos, the onsite restaurant by famed Argentine chef Francis Mallman. His open-fire cooking style brings out the boldest flavors, and the sunset views from your table are unforgettable.
2. Patagonia, Chile

After our trip to Mendoza, we flew south to explore Patagonia, and March was the perfect time to visit. The weather was cool and crisp without being too cold, which made it ideal for hiking. We layered up in the mornings but warmed up quickly once we hit the trails. While many people choose January, it can actually get pretty hot, which isn’t great when you’re hiking 13 kilometers in full sun.
You can explore either Argentine or Chilean Patagonia, but we chose the Chilean side for Torres del Paine National Park. The landscapes here are just incredible. It’s remote, vast, and full of dramatic beauty.
We hiked parts of the W trail, including Mirador Las Torres, trekked to Grey Glacier, and joined a wildlife tour in search of pumas. Every corner of the park offered something new and completely breathtaking.
Where to Stay in Patagonia, Chile

We stayed at Awasi Patagonia, and it’s one of our favorite hotels we’ve ever experienced. This Relais & Châteaux property is tucked into a private reserve just outside the national park, and every guest is paired with their own guide and 4×4 vehicle.
That level of flexibility made all the difference. Our guide, Tomas, planned each day around our interests and energy level, which made the trip feel both relaxed and adventurous.
Awasi goes above and beyond when it comes to food, especially while you’re out exploring. Tomas packed gourmet snacks and full lunches for our hikes, often with local cheeses, homemade empanadas, and even wine or champagne.
After hiking to the base of the towers—a 13-kilometer roundtrip trek—we were met with a surprise cheese board and a champagne toast on the trail. It’s one of those moments I’ll never forget. That level of thoughtfulness and comfort is exactly why Awasi stands out.
3. Kyoto, Japan
March in Kyoto is an absolute dream. Toward the end of the month, cherry blossom season begins in Japan and the entire city transforms with soft pink blooms. It’s one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see and experiencing it in Kyoto is especially magical. Yes, it’s one of the most popular times to visit, but it’s popular for good reason.

The weather in March is ideal for exploring. It’s cool but comfortable!
When we visited, we ended up walking almost everywhere during our 5 days in Kyoto! Some of our favorite spots were Fushimi Inari Shrine with its endless path of red torii gates, Kiyomizu-dera Temple with its sweeping city views, and the iconic Bamboo Forest in Arashiyama.
We also loved the peaceful Philosopher’s Path and the many restaurants along it! You won’t want to miss it especially during sakura season when petals drift through the air and line the canal.
Where to Stay in Kyoto, Japan

We stayed at The Shinmonzen, a luxury ryokan-style hotel in Gion, and it was the perfect blend of tradition and comfort. The location is quiet and tucked away but still close to everything we wanted to see. The design feels modern yet deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics, with thoughtful touches in every room.
Staying here felt like a calm retreat after full days of exploring the city.
If you’re visiting Kyoto during cherry blossom season, this is the kind of stay that makes the experience even more special.
4. Charleston, South Carolina

I’m from Charleston, and March is one of my absolute favorite months to be here. It’s that sweet spot when winter is fading, flowers are starting to bloom, and the weather is perfect for walking around without breaking a sweat. You get all the charm of Charleston before the heat and the crowds roll in later in spring.
One of the best reasons to visit in March is the annual Charleston Wine + Food Festival. It’s such a fun event that brings together top chefs, local restaurants, and wine experts from all over. The Culinary Village is always a highlight with small bites, drinks, and live music, but my favorite part is booking a signature dinner at one of the city’s best restaurants. Just make sure to plan early—tickets go fast.
And, the real reason to visit Charleston in March. AZAELA SEASON! 🌸 It’s my absolute favorite time when the blooms turn everything pink! Hampton Park is one of the best places to see them or head out to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens to stroll through their stunning gardens.

Where to Stay in Charleston, South Carolina

I always recommend The Dewberry if you’re looking for a stylish stay in the heart of downtown. It has a beautiful midcentury modern design, one of the best rooftop bars in the city, a dreamy spa, and a location right next to Marion Square. It’s a great home base for exploring the city on foot. I’ve stayed here a few times myself!
That said, there are so many great hotels in Charleston depending on your style and budget. Be sure to check out my full guide to where to stay in Charleston and my list of the best hotels in the city to help you find the right fit.

5. Egypt

March is a great time to visit Egypt. I went to Cairo in September and it was brutally hot. Trust me when I say to go in the cooler months! The high in March is 76ºF (vs. 93ºF in September). It’s the desert and it can feel even hotter when you’re in direct sun at the pyramids all day!
We went for just a few nights but got to see so much. We loved exploring the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum, then spent the next day wandering through Islamic Cairo and Khan el-Khalili. Our guided tour was incredible, and our guide, Heba, was so knowledgeable and fun to be around. Here’s the exact tour we booked if you want to check it out and this one for Islamic Cairo!
I’m so glad we went to Egypt when we did! It is an incredible bucket list destination that you have got to make happen!! Check out our itinerary for Egypt here!
Where to Stay in Cairo, Egypt

We stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, and it was perfect. We felt completely safe the entire time—there’s a metal detector for anyone entering the building, which gave us peace of mind. Safety was a top priority for me as a female visitor to Egypt.
The hotel has several great restaurants, so we didn’t even need to leave at night for dinner. Our room overlooked the Nile River, and one of my favorite memories was walking across the street to take a felucca boat ride at sunset. It was such a peaceful break from the busy energy of Cairo.
6. Dubai, United Arab Emirates

We visited Dubai as part of our honeymoon to the Seychelles. While we went in April, I’d recommend March for more ideal weather—expect average highs around 84°F and cooler evenings around 65°F. It’s the perfect time to enjoy both beach days and sightseeing without the intense summer heat.
We spent four days in Dubai and packed in a lot without feeling rushed. We split our time between relaxing on the beach, exploring Old Dubai, eating at some incredible restaurants, and venturing into the desert. One of my favorite experiences was visiting the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. It felt like something out of a movie while riding through the dunes, spotting wildlife, and enjoying a traditional Bedouin style meal.
You can see the exact tour we took and read my full review here. If you’re planning a short stay like we did, don’t miss my 4-day Dubai itinerary for tips on what to do, where to eat, and how to make the most of your time.
Where to Stay in Dubai

We stayed at the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, and it was incredible. The hotel is tucked along a quiet stretch of beach and feels peaceful and luxurious at every turn. There are two beautiful pools, including an adults-only one, which we loved for relaxing in the afternoon.
The dining options at the hotel were a highlight for us. There are several amazing restaurants to choose from, plus a rooftop bar where we watched the skyline light up at night while listening to the call to prayer. It was one of those moments that just sticks with you.
Our room had views of the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai skyline, which made it even more special.
If you’re looking for a resort that gives you beach access, top-tier service, and a serene atmosphere while still being close to the city, I can’t recommend it enough.
7. Tulum, Mexico

Mexico in March is always a good time and Tulum is such a dreamy spot for a beach escape. I loved the laid-back, boho vibes in this charming coastal town. The weather in Tulum is just right, with average highs around 87°F and cooler evenings around 67°F. Plus, with only a couple of rainy days all month, you’re almost guaranteed sunshine. March is far outside of hurricane season too, which typically runs from June through November, so you can relax without worry.
We spent our days beach-hopping, exploring the Tulum Mayan ruins, and swimming in cenotes. Tulum makes it easy to combine adventure with plenty of downtime. The slower pace and natural beauty really set the tone for a weekend that feels both energizing and restorative.
Where to Stay in Tulum, Mexico

We stayed at Hotel Panamera, and it was perfect for a weekend getaway. It has a super chic, low-key vibe with a private pool area, an inviting beach club, and a great restaurant and bar right on site. It felt stylish but never stuffy, which is exactly the kind of energy you want in Tulum.
The best part? We walked everywhere. Being in the beach zone meant we were close to everything we wanted like Tulum restaurants like Hartwood and Gitano, the beach, and cute shops just down the road. If you’re craving a quick, warm-weather escape in March, this is a place I’d go back to again.
8. Boca Grande, Florida

Boca Grande is such a great spot for a March getaway. The average high is around 81°F, and the evenings cool off just enough to make sunset walks on the beach feel perfect. This charming little beach town has it all including great restaurants, cute local shops, and soft white sand beaches with clear, calm water. It’s also a dream destination for boating and fishing if you want to get out on the water.
I went for a girls weekend and absolutely loved it. It has a relaxed, low-key vibe that feels like old Florida in the best way.
Where to Stay in Boca Grande, Florida

We stayed at The Gasparilla Inn & Club, and it could not have been more perfect. The hotel has so much charm and character, with that classic old Florida feel and a touch of casual luxury. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at home.
They have a beach club with multiple pools, a spa for massages or facials, and golf carts you can take all over the island. Whether you want to spend your day lounging by the beach, shopping in town, or out fishing, this is the kind of place that makes everything feel easy and special.
9. Rome, Italy

If you’re thinking about a trip to Italy, March is a great time to visit Rome. The weather is just starting to shift from winter to spring, with average highs around 62°F and cooler evenings around 44°F. It’s still a transition month, so you’ll want a coat at night, but it’s a lovely time to explore the city without the intense summer crowds or heat.
Since you’ll be doing a lot of walking, March makes it easier to see the sights without breaking a sweat. Some of the must-see spots include the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain, all of which are even better when you don’t have to battle the heat or peak season lines.
If you’re planning a short visit, check out my 3-day Rome itinerary for all my tips, favorite stops, and food recommendations.
Where to Stay in Rome, Italy

Rome has so many incredible hotels. We stayed at The Hoxton Roma, which had a great price point and a stylish, cozy vibe. It wasn’t walking distance to everything, but a quick taxi ride got us where we needed to go, and the quieter neighborhood was a welcome break from the busy city center.
For more ideas, check out my full guide to the best hotels in Rome to find the perfect spot for your stay.
10. San Juan, Puerto Rico

I went to San Juan for my bachelorette weekend and had the best time. Winter is the ideal season for visiting the Caribbean, and March is perfect with average temperatures around 86°F during the day and cooler evenings around 66°F. It’s warm enough for lazy beach days but not too hot to hike through El Yunque Rainforest, which is a must-do in Puerto Rico.
We spent our days soaking up the sun, cruising around San Juan Bay by boat, and exploring the colorful streets and historic forts of Old San Juan. Puerto Rican food is incredible, so don’t skip out on the local dining scene. It’s full of bold flavors and vibrant spots to try.
I love San Juan because it offers the best of both worlds. You get beautiful beaches and clear water, but also cultural experiences, history, and access to natural wonders like the rainforest and bioluminescent bay.
Where to Stay in San Juan, Puerto Rico

We stayed at Condado Ocean Club, which was perfect for a girls trip. It had a fun, modern vibe and a beachfront pool that we spent hours at. If you’re looking for something a little more elevated, I’d recommend checking out Condado Vanderbilt just down the road. We stopped by their pool bar more than once! It’s a gorgeous property and a great option if you’re looking for a luxury stay in the heart of Condado.
11. Costa Rica

In March, head south to Costa Rica for the perfect tropical getaway. We visited the Pacific Coast, where the dry season runs from December through April, making March one of the best months to go. The weather was sunny and warm with average highs around 81°F which is ideal for beach days, boat rides, and outdoor adventures.
This trip was a couples getaway with my husband and we stayed at an adults-only hotel that felt like the perfect balance of luxury and relaxation. We spent our days sailing along the coast, taking surf lessons, and lounging on the beach, but you can also plan day trips to the rainforest or even visit nearby volcanoes.
If you’re thinking of a quick escape, don’t miss my Costa Rica weekend itinerary for ideas on how to make the most of your time.
Where to Stay in Costa Rica

We stayed at Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas, a boutique adults-only hotel in the Guanacaste region. It’s truly a hidden gem. Our private villa came with its own plunge pool overlooking the Pacific, and it felt like our own little slice of paradise. The service was incredible, and everything about the property was designed to help you slow down and soak it all in.
If you’re planning a romantic escape, this spot is hard to beat. You can read my full Casa Chameleon hotel review here.
12. Bermuda

Bermuda is a great March travel destination and it went high on my list now that my home airport has a direct flight. We’re actually planned our own trip for this coming May and it was incredible.
Unlike the Caribbean, Bermuda isn’t tropical as it has a more temperate island climate that stays in the 70s to low 80s year-round. March is ideal in Bermuda if you want to avoid the summer crowds, enjoy better hotel rates, and still get plenty of sunshine. While the ocean might still be a little chilly for swimming, it’s a fantastic month for golfing, hiking, and exploring the island’s culture.
Be sure to visit historic St. George, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with cobblestone streets and colonial charm. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot humpback whales since March marks the beginning of the island’s whale watching season.
Where to Stay in Bermuda
We stayed at Rosewood Bermuda for the ultimate luxury experience on the island. It’s elegant, private, and has everything you need for a relaxing island escape. It was so family friendly and the beach club was 10/10!
I’m also loving the look of The Loren, which has a modern vibe and an incredible infinity pool right along the beach. It’s better suited for couples IMO!
Both of these hotels are top picks for a stylish, memorable stay in Bermuda.
13. New Orleans, Louisiana

Gosh, I love New Orleans. It has the best energy that is full of history, French influence, and live jazz music drifting from every corner. It’s a city that feels alive in every way and March is such a great time to visit. The weather is usually in the low to mid 70s, which makes it perfect for walking around and exploring without getting too hot.
Whether you’re strolling through the French Quarter, taking in the architecture of the Garden District, or snacking your way through beignets and po’ boys, New Orleans is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression.
Where to Stay in New Orleans, Louisiana
There are a ton of great hotels in New Orleans, but two that I personally love are Maison Métier and the Four Seasons New Orleans.
Maison Métier is a charming boutique hotel that’s earned a Michelin Key and feels like the perfect blend of style and substance. It’s thoughtfully designed, warm, and full of character which is ideal if you love staying somewhere with a real sense of place.
For a more luxurious stay, the Four Seasons overlooks the Mississippi River and delivers classic elegance with modern touches. The location is fantastic, and the service is exactly what you’d expect from a property of this level.
Whether you’re visiting for the food, music, or history, New Orleans never disappoints.
14. Belize

March in Belize is peak tourist season, but for good reason. The weather is about as ideal as it gets, with temperatures in the mid to high 70s and warm water that makes swimming, snorkeling, and boating a dream. You’ll get plenty of sunny days and very little rain, plus you’re safely outside of hurricane season, so it’s a reliable time to visit.
One of the best spots to visit is Ambergris Caye. It’s a beautiful island with stunning beaches and easy access to the Belize Barrier Reef which is the second largest reef system in the world. Snorkeling here is unforgettable, and there are plenty of other water activities like paddleboarding, fishing, and diving to keep you busy.
Where to Stay in Belize
For accommodations, I recommend Alaia Belize if you want a stylish, modern hotel right on the beach with all the amenities you could need.
If you’re traveling as a couple or want a more tranquil, adults-only vibe, Matachica Resort is an amazing choice. Both offer beautiful settings and easy access to everything Ambergris Caye has to offer.
15. New Zealand

Back in the Southern Hemisphere, March means fall is on the way, making it a fantastic time to visit New Zealand. The weather starts to cool down, but it’s still comfortable enough to enjoy the outdoors without the summer crowds.
There are so many ways to explore New Zealand depending on your travel style. If you love wine, consider visiting the Marlborough or Hawke’s Bay regions—they’re especially peaceful this time of year, with fewer tourists and beautiful vineyard views. March is also perfect for hiking. The trails are quiet, the air is crisp, and you’ll catch stunning autumn foliage that paints the landscape in warm golds, reds, and oranges.
Whether you’re after adventure or relaxation, March in New Zealand offers a little bit of everything.
Where to Stay in New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the places on this list that’s still on my bucket list. We’ve been talking about planning a trip there and have already come across some incredible hotels I can’t wait to experience.
At the top of our list is The Lindis, an adults-only retreat tucked into one of the most gorgeous and remote landscapes. It’s the kind of place that feels like an escape from the world, with wide open views and some of the best stargazing opportunities in the country. Honestly, we kind of want to go all the way to NZ to stay at this hotel alone – it is that good!!
Another dream stay is Rosewood Matakauri, a stunning lakeside getaway near Queenstown. It offers the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty, with panoramic mountain views and a cozy, romantic atmosphere.
When we finally make it to New Zealand, these are the places I’m booking first.

I cannot open any of your trip itineraries. Looking to view Cairo.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Thank you for letting me know! It does open in a new tab so that could be the issue? I’ll look into it on my end. In the meantime, here is my Cairo travel guide.
This is a great list—thanks for sharing it. I’m thinking of traveling to Italy, both the north and the south, in March, sometime between March 4th and 22nd. Would you recommend that? I’d love to avoid the crowds but still have nice weather so I can enjoy being outside.
Hi Marsha – thanks for reading! March is the start of shoulder season in Italy when the weather starts to warm up and crowds are still lower. I think this would be a great month to visit for what you are looking for in your trip. You’ll find the warmest temps in the southern destinations like Puglia and Sicily (though still not beach weather) and in the north, Milan and Venice would be comfortable for exploring during the day. Feel free to message me here if you need help planning!
