Staying at Awasi Patagonia was an unforgettable experience, to say the least. Visiting Patagonia is already a remote experience, but staying at Awasi Patagonia takes it to another level of seclusion. Being in your villa feels like you are in the middle of nowhere (spoiler alert: you are), but at the same time you can mingle with like minded travelers in the lodge.
Awasi Patagonia offers isolation in a luxury setting. There is NO need to pitch a tent on the trails when you can stay here. A vacation to Awasi is complete with your own guide, 4WD, and truly tailor made experiences. If you are interested in glamping, you will want to stay at this luxury resort in Patagonia, Chile!

How to Get to Awasi Patagonia
FIrst things first, how do you get to Awasi Patagonia? The best way is to fly into Puerto Natales (PNT) from Santiago, Chile. There are direct flights via LATAM Airlines. Your personal guide will be waiting to greet you at this tiny airport and transport you on a scenic drive to Awasi. It does take about 2 hours, but the drive is seriously so stunning that you will not notice. They will also return you to the airport and since our flight was at lunch time, they graciously packed meals for us to-go!
Weather in Patagonia Chile
You can (and will) experience all four seasons in one day in Chilean Patagonia. It turns from warm to freezing and windy in an instant when you are hiking along the trails.
We visited in mid-March and saw temperatures in the mid-50s during the day. This was perfect for hiking when you are working up a sweat! March is great because it starts turning from Summer to Fall which means kids go back to school and there will be less crowds! Peak season is November through early March.

Awasi Patagonia Hotel Review
The ULTIMATE in luxury hotels is Awasi Patagonia. Managed by Relais & Chateaux and named a Leading Hotel of the World, Awasi will blow you away with their first class service, cuisine, and friendly staff.
Staying at Awasi Patagonia means everything is included is your room rate – transportation, personal guide, all food and beverage – which makes your stay completely seamless from beginning to end.
Accommodations – Villas at Awasi Patagonia
There are 14 villas each overlooking the famous towers of Torres del Paine National Park and Lake Sarmiento. Your villa will feature a fireplace in the living area, king sized bed, and bathroom with standup shower and soaking tub. However, my favorite feature is the outdoor wood-burning hot tub! There is nothing more necessary than getting to soak your muscles after a long day on the trail.
The beds are incredibly comfortable and the view is unbelievable. I loved the spacious living room with wood-burning fireplace that they will light for you in the evening. There is plenty of seating with a full sized sofa and chair.
One of my favorite touches was turn down service. Each night at turndown, the staff leaves a special treat in your room that is representative of the area and culture. I won’t spill all the secrets so you can enjoy the surprises! 🙂
The Food Options at Awasi Patagonia
The main “lodge” is a great place to hangout and meet your fellow travelers. My favorite thing about it is that they provide slippers so you can take off your boots and feel at home in the lodge!
The restaurant is housed here and serves incredible cuisine and local Chilean wines, among others. Definitely try the wine pairings with your meal – the sommelier is amazing and she poured really unique, small batch wines that you won’t find anywhere else.
They accommodate any dietary restrictions and allergies. For REAL though, I was worried what the selections would be in this remote part of the world. We are plant based and had incredible options on the trails and at the physical restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and healthy choices!
Even more surprising, the staff knew who everyone was by name and their dietary restrictions – I never once had to remind them of my strange avocado allergy or vegan/pescatarian diet.
Some plant-based (vegan) food highlights:
- Soups of the day are so good on the trail when it is cold – we had tomato, carrot, lentil – it’s different every day!
- Snacks – homemade granola bars, chocolate, homemade trail mix, dried fruit, cheese boards (really), fresh fruit, hummus and crudite, cookies, and more.
- Dinners – fresh fish, veggie empanadas, scallops, grilled cabbage, quinoa salad, veggie burger, pasta, etc.
- Breakfast/Lunch on the trail – roasted veggie sandwiches, soups previously mentioned, mediterranean chickpea salad with roasted veg, veggie wraps, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, fruit, etc. Snacks above were always provided with lunch as well.
The Guides at Awasi Patagonia
Each guest is assigned a dedicated, personal guide throughout their stay who will map out your days with the best hikes or activities suited to your expectations. It is like having a friend show you all their favorite places! In addition, they pack meals, snacks, and drinks so you can enjoy some fabulous picnics before, during, and after your adventures.
Our guide was Tomas and he was amazing. He’s done the iconic hike to the base of the towers in Torres del Paine at least 100 times, but he was excited to take us and made us feel like it was special for him as well! I did not intend to do this hike until he put me at ease and I am so glad we did because of him!
Awasi Patagonia Excursions
Speaking of hikes, there are so many incredible options for exploring the famed Torres del Paine National Park.
Our favorite hikes were:
- Mirador Base de las Torres (Lookout at Base of the Towers) – 21km round trip journey to reach this iconic spot. This was easily the hardest thing I have ever done, but the view was 1000 percent worth it. It is a difficult hike especially towards the top when you are climbing up rocks. There were people of all shapes, sizes, races, and ages on the trail – ranging from babies in carriers to women in their 70s! If I can do it, you can too.
- Glacier Gray – This was my first time seeing a glacier and it was truly incredible. The hike itself was relatively easy and only about 12km in total. We hiked to the halfway point for a day trip, but you can keep going and camp overnight.
- Laguna Azul – this was the easiest hike that we did. It is mostly flat as you wind around Laguna Azul with a great view of the towers above you. We spent about an hour then enjoyed a picnic lake side, but you can do more or less!
Other great excursions range from active to more relaxed to cultural experiences. You can ride horseback, spot wildlife, bike, fish and more. I wish we had time to visit an estancia (farm) – they will take you to learn about the gaucho culture and traditions which includes an “asado” which is a traditional barbecue – talk about farm to table!
Amenities at Awasi Patagonia
Some of the best amenities at Awasi:
- Wood Burning Hot Tubs to relax your sore muscles. If it is too windy this will not be an option due to fire hazards, but we were lucky to use it each day.
- In Room Spa Services – it was incredible to have an in room massage after many days of long hikes. *not included in your room rate, obviously.
- Room Service – we loved having one dinner in our fabulous living room with the wood burning fireplace.
- 4×4 Vehicle and personal guide assigned to only you.
- Laundry – first bag is free!
- Stocked mini fridge with your favorite wines, beer, and drinks! So thoughtful of them to ask what you like and make sure it is always stocked!
Sustainability at Awasi
Awasi Patagonia is completely carbon neutral. The Awasi brand protects 340 hectares of forests which absorb over 10,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. Additionally, Awasi puts a strong emphasis on sourcing local produce, meats, and even beer/wines.
Awasi Patagonia Travel Tips
- Before you go, watch the new Netflix show with Barack Obama called Our Great National Parks, episode on Chilean Patagonia!
- Take advantage of the in room spa services – you can set this up once onsite
- Pack lots of layers for your hikes – the weather changes back and forth all day long
- Try the wine pairings at dinner
- You can NOT use a drone in the National Park so don’t bother taking it
- DO the hike to the base of the towers in Torres del Paine
- DO hike to Glacier Gray instead of taking the boat – it is much more authentic
- Be sure to tip your guides (and restaurant staff) – they are SO amazing and play a big role in curating your experience
- Definitely purchase travel insurance for a trip like this one – we use World Nomads.

My husband and our best friends will be staying at Awasi Patagonia in January and we cannot wait. Thank you for the information. This is probably the most thorough review I’ve found on this particular place, very helpful.
Lindsey says
Hi Michelle! Thank you so much! I am glad it was helpful. Awasi is so incredible – enjoy your time there 🙂

Love all your suggestions. Our children, 24 and 28 plan to do the Base of the Tower hike. My husband has some issues with his lungs so we won’t be doing the hike with them. We are headed to Awasi on Dec 28. There are 4 in our party, do you have a tip amount you can suggest per person for the guides and then for the hotel staff? If we have two villas do we have two guides?
Lindsey says
Hi! You all are going to love Awasi – enjoy!
I believe they assign guides per room so assume you would have two guides so you can coordinate different activities. Tipping is always hard to determine, but 10% is customary at restaurants in Chile. I would suggest between $30-$50/person per day for lodge staff which will be shared. Then, another $20-$30/day for guides who will drive, guide you on the trails, and provide meals/snacks. Of course, you could do more or less depending on full day vs half day experiences.
Hope that helps. Safe travels!

This article was super informative! My partner and I will be staying here later this year for our honeymoon. Just wondering, how you took care of the gratuities? Did you just leave a percentage overall for everyone to split or did you individually tip throughout the stay?
Lindsey says
Thank you! Amazing – you will love honeymooning at Awasi! We did everything at the end of our trip. Since we had the same guide throughout, we left a set amount for him. Then, we did a separate amount to be shared by the hotel staff – kitchen, housekeeping, etc. The hotel was super helpful in recommending amounts and answering any questions about it, too! Safe travels!

Hi Lindsey, thank you for the thorough review. How many days did you stay at Awasi/how many would you recommend? Did you travel or stay anywhere else while in this area, or was this your main destination? Thanks!
Lindsey says
Hi Julie! Thanks for your comment! We stayed at Awasi for 4 nights. I think one more night would have been nice so we could have more time at the hotel or to visit an estancia, ride horses, etc. We did three days of hiking so would have liked one more full day that was more low key! It was shorter because we spent 10 days between Argentina and Chile – here is my post with our full itinerary visiting Buenos Aires, Menodza, then Patagonia.
