I’ve planned my babymoon in Italy twice now for both of my pregnancies. If you’re trying to decide where to babymoon in Italy, I’m here to help with first hand experience traveling Italy while pregnant.
For my first Italy babymoon we visited the Amalfi Coast paired with a couple days exploring Rome. The second time around, we had an extended family trip to Tuscany so also tacked on a getaway to relax on the shores of Lake Como, explore Florence, then meet family in the Tuscan countryside.
Both trips were absolutely amazing. The best part of visiting Italy while pregnant is the food with things like pasta, pizza and gelato. But, it’s definitely hard to not indulge in the wine!
In this guide, I’m sharing all about how I planned my own Italy babymoon plus a few destinations that I think would be amazing as well depending on the season! It is best to take a babymoon in your second trimester when you typically have the most energy and less sickness (hopefully).
This post also includes hotel recommendations so you have actionable tips to start planning your babymoon getaway! I love a luxury hotel that feels more intimate than resort-y, has incredible dining options, and allows you to truly relax so that’s what you’ll find from me! I do offer travel planning services, so please reach out if you need extra help selecting the perfect hotel for your trip.

Here are my favorite Italy Babymoon Destinations:
First, I’m sharing all about where I have planned babymoons in Italy personally. Then, I’ll share a few more ideas for inspiration along with hotels I’m dying to visit!
1. Amalfi Coast, Italy
Best time to visit: Summer is the ideal time to visit the Amalfi Coast for warm weather. We went in May and it was warm, but not super crowded yet – loved it! July and August are peak summer with prices and crowds while September and October are much quieter, but still warm.

For my first babymoon in Italy, my husband and I spent 4 days relaxing on the Amalfi Coast before ending our trip in Rome. We actually had a few other stops during this European babymoon (Copenhagen and Geneva) so if you have more time, definitely spend a few more days on the Amalfi Coast.
It’s hard to find a more romantic, luxe and stunning destination than the Amalfi Coast in Italy. While most people flock to Positano, we wanted to avoid the crowds and have a more intimate experience. We chose to stay right outside of Amalfi town at the super swanky Borgo Santandrea hotel.
We chose this hotel for it’s private beach club along the coast that is a rare find on the Amalfi Coast! We really wanted to relax and not be surrounded by the tourist scene the whole time. The hotel was perfect for allowing us a serene retreat while being positioned so we could easily explore too!

Our favorite day was a boat cruise along the coast getting to see all of the little towns from Positano to Atrani. You can also book a day trip to Capri which we would have done if we had a few more days! I would definitely consider doing 2-3 nights on Capri as part of the itinerary.
We also explored Amalfi town, dined at some of the amazing restaurants along the Amalfi Coast and spent ample time by the sea. We had planned to do the Path of the Gods hike, but didn’t want to leave the hotel!

Where to Stay
There are so many great areas and hotels to stay in the Amalfi Coast.
- Borgo Santandrea – This is where we stayed and I loooovvved it. Intimate, peaceful, with a private beach and stunning sea views—perfect for a relaxing babymoon.
- Hotel Santa Caterina – Classic Amalfi luxury with cliffside terraces, elegant rooms, and a gorgeous pool overlooking the coast. A timeless spot to unwind.
- Le Sirenuse – Iconic Positano hotel with chic rooms, romantic vibes, and a terrace perfect for sunset cocktails. Feels like pure Amalfi magic.

2. Lake Como, Italy
Best time to visit: Again, summer is the best time to visit Lake Como. July and August are peak months for warmest weather, but also highest prices and crowds. We went in early September and it was lovely – warm, but a little less busy.

For our second babymoon to Italy we relaxed along the shores of Lake Como and it was a DREAM! Since this was our second pregnancy, we also had our almost 2 year old with us and it worked great as a luxury family destination as well!
>>Read my Lake Como Babymoon Itinerary here!
We went in September and the weather was ideal. It got hot during the day, but the evenings cooled off making it feel super cosy. I loved relaxing at a nice hotel, having great food, visiting the spa and taking a boat cruise around the lake.
Our favorite day was the boat day on the lake where we cruised to Bellagio. We had lunch, explore the town, shopped for some artwork and then returned to our hotel for the afternoon.
We stayed at Il Sereno and it was the perfect intimate, chic place to stay on Lake Como for our babymoon. The hotel was surprisingly very baby/toddler friendly and there were a couple other young families there too!
We loved the infinity pool along the lake, their amazing spa (!!!!), Michelin-star restaurant and views of the lake from our suite. It was truly one of our favorite luxury hotels we’ve had the chance to stay in and I would definitely go back!
Where to Stay

- Il Sereno – This is where we stayed and loved it. Sleek, modern design with stunning lake views and a peaceful, intimate vibe which is ideal for a babymoon.
- Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como– Luxury meets elegance with beautiful gardens, a serene spa, and spacious rooms overlooking the lake. We had lunch and toured the property – it was STUNNING and perfect if you like more traditional luxury.
- Grand Hotel Tremezzo – Iconic lakeside hotel with breathtaking views, a private beach, and multiple pools. Offers a blend of glamour and comfort for a leisurely stay.
- Villa d’Este – Historic and opulent, with lush grounds, elegant rooms, and impeccable service. A classic choice for a romantic getaway. We drove by on the lake and WOW!

3. Tuscany, Italy
Best Time to Visit: September and October are ideal to catch harvest season. Summers are hot and crowded! I would suggest Spring or Fall for comfortable weather and fewer crowds.

If you think Tuscany is all about wine, you’re wrong. Tuscany is filled with charming, hilltop towns that are beautifully preserved from the Medieval period.
We went with our extended family during our babymoon in Italy. It was really tough to not have wine in Tuscany as we did go to vineyards too. But, the charming towns and stunning views really made up for it!
We stayed near Castellina in Chianti and it’s such a charming small town to explore with several good restaurants. We also visited Siena for 1 day and it is absolutely worth a stop on your itinerary.
It was pretty hot in early September so I would avoid visiting during summer for a babymoon. You don’t want to be hot and exploring hilltop towns while pregnant. It would be best for a spring or fall babymoon trip in my opinion.
There are some really amazing hotels in Tuscany, but we stayed in a private villa which is perfect if you are traveling with a group (here is the villa we stayed in if interested – we LOVED it!). If it were just my family or husband, I would have probably stayed at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco or Borgo Santo Pietro for a luxurious and relaxing experience.
Where to Stay
Here’s where I would stay for a Tuscany Babymoon:
- Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco – A luxurious countryside retreat with rolling vineyards, elegant rooms, and a peaceful, romantic vibe perfect for a babymoon.
- Borgo Santo Pietro – Charming, intimate, and full of Tuscan character. Beautiful gardens, cozy rooms, and a serene setting make it ideal for relaxing and unwinding.
4. Florence, Italy
Best times to visit: We went in September which was really hot and so SO crowded. Summer is busy travel season and it’s a hot time to explore the city. I would personally go in the winter for a quieter cosy escape or early spring/late fall to beat the heat and crowds.

Florence is a great babymoon destination in Italy! We spent time in Florence during our babymoon and it was such a gorgeous city. You really only need a couple days so I would plan to visit another area (like Tuscany or Como) in addition to Florence.
You’ll spend your days admiring the to Duomo, wandering over Ponte Vecchio, indulging in gelato, and catching incredible sunset views over the Arno River and town of Florence.
You can also head outside of town to some nearby vineyards. We went to Antinori which was about 45 minutes away and it’s the most unique vineyard with incredible architecture and a great outdoor terrace for lunch. I loved it even being pregnant and sober.
We stayed at the newly opened (in 2025) Collegio alla Querce and it was easily the most beautifully designed hotel. It was a former school so the historic building has a really interesting floor plan and the attention to detail in the interior is incredible!! I was constantly mesmerized by the thought the designers put into this restoration.
We especially loved the pool and cabanas. It was the perfect spot to relax in the afternoons away from the busy city crowds. Plus, the food here was incredible from the breakfast to the poolside pizzas and cozy cocktail lounge.
Where to Stay

Collegio alla Querce, Auberge Collection – This is where we stayed and loved it. Elegant, modern rooms with a calm, boutique vibe. Great location (10 mins outside of city) for exploring Florence while having a more exclusive retreat after sightseeing.
5. Rome, Italy
Best time to visit: Ideal months are spring and fall for best weather to explore. We went to Rome in May and it was lovely! The flowers were blooming and the weather was warm, but not unbearable. It was definitely crowded, but I think Rome is *always* busy.

We visited Rome for our Italy babymoon after a few days on the Amalfi Coast. It was a great combination of getting to relax on the coast and getting to explore a bucket list city with amazing history. I actually really loved Rome and look forward to going back! Check out our 3 day Rome Itinerary here!
Step back in time as you explore sites like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain. Spend a half day in Vatican City to tour St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel (be sure to grab skip the line tickets in advance!!) In the evenings, indulge in the foodie scene of Rome with some amazing restaurants.
Where to Stay

- The Hoxton Rome – We stayed here and it was a great mid-range option after splurging on Amalfi hotels! We’ve stayed at several Hoxton’s around the world and really like them for their charm, restaurants/bars, and price point. It’s not the most walkable location so we did uber some, but it was short distances and worked great.
- Six Senses Rome – absolutely where I would stay if splurging! We visited the hotel for lunch and it was stunning!
6. Sardinia, Italy
Best times to visit: Summer is ideal here to take advantage of the warmer water temps. Spring and fall work nicely as well, but the water might be cooler in spring.

Sardinia is a fantastic babymoon spot in Italy. If you’re traveling from the USA, Delta just launched a nonstop flight from JFK to Sardinia making it even easier to reach.
Go to Sardinia if you’re looking for a Maldives vibe, but in Europe! Think: white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and high end hotels.
Sardinia is great when you’re pregnant because it’s a slower-paced island with less sightseeing and more soaking in the scenery. You can spend your days lounging by the water, taking scenic drives along the coast, or enjoying long, leisurely lunches with your feet up. The island has a laid-back luxury that makes it easy to unwind without feeling like you’re missing out.
For must-see areas, base yourself near Costa Smeralda for stunning beaches and upscale resorts. Don’t miss La Maddalena Archipelago as it’s one of the most beautiful parts of Sardinia. You can take a half-day boat trip to see the islands and swim in crystal-clear lagoons!
If you prefer exploring by land, visit the colorful village of Bosa, known for its pastel houses and riverside views, or head to Alghero for its historic old town and coastal charm.
Where to Stay
If you’re after a luxury stay, Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, is hard to beat. It’s set right on the beach with stunning sea views, incredible dining, and that effortless Belmond charm. The vibe is relaxed and elegant perfect for spending slow mornings by the water and quiet evenings under the stars!

I’ll send you a quote with the best rates and fun perks available to you! And, I don’t charge any fees for hotel only bookings!
7. Sicily, Italy
Best time to visit: Summer is perfect for warm weather and swimming, but Sicily’s southern location means spring and fall are great too with warm days, fewer crowds, and plenty of sunshine.

Sicily makes an amazing babymoon spot in Italy if you want a little adventure mixed with plenty of relaxation. You’ll find beautiful beaches, charming hilltop towns, and incredible food everywhere you go. It’s easy to explore at your own pace, and the slower island vibe makes it ideal while pregnant.
Spend your days wandering through Taormina’s cobblestone streets, taking in views of Mount Etna, and enjoying long seaside lunches. For beach time, head to Isola Bella, San Vito Lo Capo, or the quieter coves near Cefalù. You can also take an easy boat ride along the coast or enjoy a scenic drive through the vineyards and olive groves.
Where to Stay
San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel – For a luxurious stay, check into the Four Seasons in Taormina. You’ll recognize the hotel from White Lotus. It’s one of those hotels that feels instantly special perched above the sea with panoramic views, gorgeous gardens, and an infinity pool overlooking the coast.
8. Portofino, Italy
Best times to visit: Late spring through early fall is warm enough to enjoy the water and the outdoor terraces, but try to avoid the peak summer crowds if you can.

Portofino is high on my bucket list! It looks so charming with its pastel buildings, tiny harbor, and perfect seaside cafes. It’s ideal for a babymoon if you’re looking for a mix of relaxing by the water and wandering through picturesque streets at a slow pace.
Expect a mix of luxury and laid-back Italian charm. You’ll find boutique shops, gelato at every corner, and plenty of quiet spots to just sit and watch the boats drift by.
You can enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the marina, take a short boat ride along the Ligurian coast, or just stroll around and soak in the scenery.
Where to Stay
I’m dying to stay at Splendido, A Belmond Hotel. Perched above the harbor, it has incredible views and beautiful gardens. The vibe is romantic and relaxed which is perfect for enjoying quiet mornings on your terrace, sipping coffee, and letting the world slow down before you become parents!
9. Venice, Italy
The best time to visit: I would go in spring or early fall for milder weather and fewer crowds which make wandering the canals so much easier.

Venice is a top pick for an Italy babymoon because it’s pure Italian magic. Iconic canals, charming bridges, and elegant palazzos make every stroll feel like a scene from a movie.
You can enjoy gondola rides, leisurely lunches by the water, and quiet mornings getting lost in the winding streets perfect for a slower, romantic pace while pregnant in Italy.
Where to Stay
For a truly special stay, Aman Venice is hard to beat. Set in a historic palazzo on the Grand Canal, it’s intimate, serene, and effortlessly luxurious. The rooms are spacious and elegant, and you can sip espresso on your terrace or relax in the stunning gardens without ever feeling rushed.
10. Ischia, Italy
Best time to visit: Late spring through early fall is ideal. It is warm enough to enjoy the beaches and thermal pools, but not too crowded if you go in the shoulder season.

Ischia is a dreamy babymoon spot for relaxation and natural beauty. This volcanic island is famous for its thermal springs, lush gardens, and quiet beaches.
You can spend your days soaking in warm mineral waters (but not for too long while pregnant!), strolling through colorful towns, and enjoying fresh seafood with ocean views all at a slow, gentle pace that’s perfect while pregnant.
Where to Stay
- Botania Relais & Spa – This serene retreat has beautiful design, lush gardens, and a private vibe. It’s perfect for couples wanting to unwind in a peaceful setting.
- Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa – A stunning cliffside hotel with gorgeous rooms, neutral decor, and tile floors. Enjoy the amazing pool, lounge areas overlooking the sea, a full thermal spa, yoga and fitness options, plus on-site dining that makes it easy to do nothing but relax.
12. Dolomites, Italy
Best time to visit: I’d plan a summer trip here. It’s perfect for easy hikes, fresh mountain air, and soaking up the jaw-dropping scenery. Ski season is popular, but not ideal for a babymoon.

The Dolomites are a top pick if you’re wanting dramatic landscapes, peaceful vibes, and a little adventure. Think emerald valleys, jagged peaks, and charming alpine villages where you can sip coffee on a sunny terrace or take easy walks without rushing.
It’s a refreshing escape from the coast and perfect for reconnecting with nature before your little one arrives.
Where to Stay
- Aman Alpina – Nestled in the mountains, this hotel offers understated luxury, spacious rooms with stunning views, and easy access to gentle hikes. The spa is perfect for relaxing sore feet and unwinding after a day outdoors.
- Forestis Dolomites – A serene retreat with elegant design, panoramic vistas, and a wellness-focused atmosphere. Between the mountain views, spa, and peaceful surroundings, it’s ideal for a slow, restorative babymoon. You’ll be sold when you see the pool!!
