I recently returned from the most relaxing babymoon in Lake Como, Italy, and I can’t wait to share the details with you. Lake Como had been on our bucket list for years and it exceeded every expectation! The sheer size of the lake and the dramatic mountains surrounding it completely took my breath away.
This trip was extra special because we’re expecting our second child and brought our almost two-year-old along. Lake Como turned out to be not only the perfect babymoon destination, but also an incredible luxury family getaway.
In this guide, I’ll share where we stayed, what we did, and the best meals we enjoyed. You’ll also find practical tips you can use to plan your own trip whether you’re traveling as a couple, a family, or, like us, celebrating a babymoon in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Where to Stay on Lake Como for a Luxury Babymoon
Sharing all about where we stayed in Lake Como for this babymoon trip, plus a few other hotels that were on my radar! I love nice hotels and they really make the experience so I’m always researching the best of the best.
Il Sereno

We chose Il Sereno, and it exceeded every expectation. What I loved most was the sense of privacy and intimacy making it feel like a true retreat, far removed from the busy tourist spots around the lake.
The hotel is set in the charming little town of Torno, and with only 40 suites, it offers a peaceful escape that feels both exclusive and relaxed which is exactly what you want for a romantic getaway or a babymoon in Lake Como.
Il Sereno checks every box: sweeping lake views, a serene spa, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and a chic infinity pool that spills right over the lakeshore. All while being family friendly, too!
As a luxury travel advisor, I booked with VIP perks, which made the stay even more special. We were upgraded to the Grand Suite, complete with a balcony overlooking the lake and an extra side room with a desk and sofa which was perfect for creating a separate sleeping space for our little one. On arrival, we were also welcomed with a bottle of champagne, snacks, and a $100 USD resort credit (which we happily used at the spa!).
Staying here felt like having our own private slice of Lake Como—stylish, intimate, and unforgettable.
Why I’d recommend Il Sereno:
- Intimate size with only 44 suites (I would have guessed less than that!)
- Quiet location in the charming town of Torno
- Perfect for a romantic getaway or babymoon
- Stunning infinity pool and lake views
- Michelin-starred dining and serene spa
- VIP perks like upgrades, welcome amenities, and resort credit
- Family-friendly offering plenty of amenities and must-haves for babies/toddlers

Other top luxury hotels on Lake Como we love:
Of course, we looked at many other hotels during our trip (and even toured a few!). Here are some I’d absolutely recommend if you’re planning a stay on Lake Como:
Grand Hotel Tremezzo – One of the most iconic hotels on the lake. You’ve probably seen its famous orange umbrellas lining the waterfront restaurant. This is a classic spot that perfectly captures the Lake Como experience.
Passalacqua – The definition of luxury. This newer property has already been named the best hotel in Italy, and it feels every bit as exclusive as you’d imagine.
Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como – We had lunch here and it was fantastic. The property is elegant, with a floating pool right on the lake and lush gardens to wander through. It’s a more traditional luxury option, with modern, stylish rooms.

Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni – If you want to stay right in Bellagio, this is the spot. The hotel puts you within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and ferries, while still offering resort-style amenities. We had lunch here as well, and loved the lakeside beach club, pool, and dining at La Goletta.
Villa Lario – This chic, intimate hotel has only 18 all-suite rooms, making it perfect if you want something stylish and tranquil. It has a pool, private lakefront beach, and its own restaurant. We tried to book here, but it was completely full!
Villa d’Este – One of the most legendary properties in Lake Como. Known for its elegant interiors and expansive gardens, it offers 151 guest rooms along with private residences. A true icon if you want the ultimate in Como luxury.

Things to Do for a Lake Como, Italy Babymoon
Here are some of the best things to do on Lake Como and what we had time for during out trip!
Cruise on the Lake

This was by far my favorite day of our whole trip! You can’t go to Lake Como and not go for a boat cruise. Our hotel offered self-driving wood boats so we took advantage of those instead of booking a private tour.
I will say it’s expensive either way, but so worth it! I had planned on booking this boat tour during our trip until we went the self-driving route. You can choose how many hours you’d like, but I think you need at least 3-4 since it’s such a large lake.
If our hotel didn’t have an offering, I would have gone this route for a private experience. I mean, you have to cruise the lake in a classic wooden boat, right? Check it out below:
Explore Bellagio
I definitely recommend taking a boat to Bellagio (or driving) and exploring for a few hours. It is touristy and busy, but so worth seeing this charming town. We strolled the streets and even shopped for art – we found a piece we LOVE from Fresia Galleries.

Hiking & Trails
Lake Como is perfect for hiking or taking more leisurely strolls along scenic trails. If you’re up for it during pregnancy, it’s a wonderful way to spend a few hours surrounded by stunning views. We had our toddler with us, so hiking wasn’t an option this time, but I can only imagine how incredible the views must be! This site has all the info on walking/hiking trails!
Explore Como Town
Como is the main town on the lake and worth a quick visit. It’s livelier and more crowded than the smaller lakeside towns, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and accommodations. Como also serves as the main hub for ferries, making it a convenient base for exploring the lake. That said, if you’re looking for a quieter, more intimate experience, you might prefer to stay elsewhere—we personally decided to skip it.
Lounge at the Pool
Babymoons are meant for relaxing! Make plans to spend ample time at your hotel’s pool – and make sure you book a place to stay that has one!

Enjoy Spa Treatments
Our hotel had an amazing spa so I definitely took advantage! You’ll want to be further along in your pregnancy (I was 20 weeks), but I think the rules in Italy want you to be in your third trimester. Our hotel didn’t question it, but we stayed at another hotel in Florence and they wanted a medical certificate stating how far along I would be.

Best Restaurants in Lake Como During our Babymoon
Al Lago

This Michelin-starred restaurant at our hotel, Il Sereno, was unforgettable. Set right on the lake inside a cave-like space with stone walls and large windows, it feels incredibly romantic.
You can choose from several menus, including a vegetarian option. Since we’re pescatarian, they adapted the vegetarian menu to include fish for us, which gave the meal more variety.
One of the most unique dishes was the fully plant-based dessert. I’m usually a chocolate girl, but I was so impressed by how they transformed ingredients to look like raspberries and carrots—it was beautiful and creative.
Belvedere Ristorante

This charming boutique hotel in Torno was just a 10-minute walk from ours, and the restaurant is perfect for a romantic evening. With only a handful of tables right along the lake, it feels intimate and special which is ideal for a babymoon dinner. The ravioli here was delicious, and the atmosphere couldn’t have been dreamier.
Vapore Ristorante
Also in Torno, and right near Belvedere, this spot was recommended by our hotel. We didn’t dine here, but did take a peak since it was so close! The highlight is its setting as it feels like dining in a lakeside garden, surrounded by greenery and water views. If you’re looking for an outdoor meal with stunning scenery, this is the one to book.
CO.MO Bar & Bistrot at Mandarin Oriental

This hotel is absolutely stunning, with expansive gardens, elegant décor, and a restaurant that’s just as impressive. We shared a pizza and pasta here, and honestly, the pizza was one of the best I’ve had in Italy. They also have a lovely lounge, perfect for a drink before or after dinner.
It was rainy when we went so couldn’t enjoy outdoor dining, but the inside space is seriously so stunning and was very accommodating to our little one. They had a great kids menu with a pesto that she LOVED and the high chair was perfect to keep her contained at almost 2 years old.
La Goletta

We came here for lunch and loved it. The open-air terrace is the ideal spot for a sunny afternoon, though the dining room looks cozy for dinner too. The pasta was excellent (I had the pesto, which was divine). They also have a kid-friendly menu—our daughter happily devoured her pizza and the giant fruit plate they brought her.
The hotel had a great playground too and she played there after eating for a bit!
Da Giacomo al Lago at Grand Hotel Tremezzo
We didn’t make it here, but it’s worth mentioning. This iconic hotel has the dreamiest lakeside patio for lunch, and I would’ve gone just to see the property. If you’re looking for a meal with a view, this is the spot. You will definitely need reservations well in advance!

Helpful Information for Planning a Lake Como Babymoon
Here are some of the questions that I had before our trip to Lake Como. I hope these help you guys take the stress out of planning the logistics.
Lake Como is large, and driving around can take a long time! The fastest way to get around is by boat or ferry, though private boats can be pricey. Renting a car is a great option if you want to explore at your own pace, just be ready for narrow, winding roads. There is also public transportation, but I’ve read that buses fill up quickly.
We flew from the U.S. into Milan Malpensa (MXP) and booked a driver to take us to the lake. Having someone waiting for us made the arrival so smooth. After a long flight, the last thing you want is to hunt for an Uber while hoping you get cell service. I can connect you with my preferred partners—inquire here. And Read my post on how to get from Milan to Lake Como.
Lake Como is beautiful year-round, and each season has its perks:
Spring (March–May): Flowers are in full bloom, the weather is mild, and crowds are smaller than summer. It’s perfect for scenic walks and leisurely sightseeing.
Summer (June–August): The days are warm and sunny, ideal for boating and lakeside dining. Keep in mind it’s also peak tourist season, so expect bigger crowds (and higher hotel rates).
Fall (September–November): We visited in early September and loved it—the weather was still warm during the day, cooler at night, and the crowds had thinned. Fall colors along the hillsides add extra charm.
Winter (December–February): Winters are quieter and peaceful, with fewer tourists. Some attractions, hotels and ferries may have limited hours/are seasonal, but it’s a cozy time for a slower-paced getaway.
No matter when you go, the lake is stunning and the best time really depends on when you can take your babymoon! The best time is in your second trimester!
