June Charleston Summer Bucket List

June marks the official start of summer in Charleston, and the city comes alive with festivals, outdoor concerts, and long days spent by the water. Whether you’re kicking things off with Spoleto Festival USA or sipping frosé in the sunshine, June is packed with ways to soak up the season.

Kick off summer at Spoleto Festival USA – This world-renowned arts festival takes over Charleston for 17 days, showcasing incredible performances in theater, dance, opera, and music.
Stroll through the Charleston City Night Market – Open every Friday and Saturday, this open-air market features local artisans, live music, and a vibrant evening atmosphere.
Take a sunset boat cruise – Whether it’s a private charter or a group cruise, watching the sunset over the Charleston Harbor is a must.
Go kayaking or paddleboarding in the Lowcountry waterways – Explore Shem Creek, Folly River, or the Intracoastal Waterway for a peaceful paddle with a chance to spot dolphins. This is one of the top rated guided kayak experiences.
Sip frozen frosé at Leon’s Oyster Shop – Nothing says summer like a chilled glass of frosé paired with their famous char-grilled oysters.
Hit the waves at Folly Beach – Whether you’re a beginner or experienced surfer, Folly Beach is the best place in Charleston to ride the waves.

Charleston Carifest (June 29 – July 1, 2023) – Celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month with a weekend of cultural events, including a parade, live music, and vibrant festivities.
Reggae Nights Summer Concert Series – Dance under the stars at James Island County Park while enjoying live reggae music in a laid-back outdoor setting. Dates in June, July and August!

Yoga Fest (June 18, 2025) – Celebrate the Summer Solstice with an evening of yoga, community, and fresh air at James Island County Park from 6-8 p.m.
Cast Off Fishing Tournament (June 21, 2025) – Start your morning with a reel challenge at Folly Beach Pier. From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., anglers of all skill levels can cast a line and compete for prizes while enjoying oceanfront views.

July Charleston Summer Bucket List

July in Charleston is all about fireworks, beach days, and balmy nights filled with music and the best food. Whether you’re celebrating the 4th of July, cooling off at the aquarium, or catching a RiverDogs game, there’s no better time to experience the city’s classic summer magic.

Cool off at the South Carolina Aquarium – Beat the summer heat while exploring marine life, including sharks, sea turtles, and the impressive Great Ocean Tank.

Take a bike ride on the beach – Ride along the shoreline at low tide on Sullivan’s Island or Isle of Palms for a fun and scenic experience.
