I grew up on Folly Beach. We lived on front beach right by the washout and my mom still lives out there (I live in downtown Charleston now) along with my grandparents, too. My family has been there for generations and even owned a popular seafood restaurant back in the day! I’m excited to share a slice of my hometown as I detail all of the best things to do on Folly Beach, SC!

Spend a day at the beach
Obviously, you will want to spend a day at the beach. Head to the county park for facilities, lifeguards, and parking. Or head to the east end of the island to find a spot at The Washout and watch the surfers catch waves.
Take a surf lesson
A fun group or kids activity, try a surf lesson for an hour. You may learn a new skill or at the very least have a good laugh! Book here to lock in your surf session.
Surf Lesson Companies on Folly:
Try a beach yoga session
Next, yoga is a perfect activity for a bachelorette or girls group on Folly Beach. Yoga on the beach will make you feel somewhat productive with a little exercise.
Walk out to the Morris Island Lighthouse
The Morris Island Lighthouse will make a great backdrop for photos. Head to the far east side of the island where the road ends and find a place to park. You can either take the paved path or walk along the beach to reach the lighthouse inlet. The lighthouse itself is out in the water so you won’t be able to go inside, but it is a stunning view from the beach.
Try this biking tour that takes you to Morris Island Lighthouse to spot dolphins.
Charter a sunset dolphin cruise
Folly is beautiful from the water! I suggest booking a whole boat day or definitely an evening sunset cruise so you can sip cocktails and spot dolphin as you make your way around the inlets.
Water Based Tours on Folly Beach:
Drink craft beers at Revelry Brewing Co
One of my favorite local Charleston breweries just opened the cutest little beach bar on Folly. Be sure to find their hidden beach bar tucked behind Coconut Joe’s (also a new spot). My fave is the lazy lover!
Have breakfast at Lost Dog Cafe
Lost Dog Cafe is easily the best breakfast on Folly Beach. Known for an extensive menu with things like biscuits n gravy, breakfast sammies, huevos rancheros, muffins, bagels, french toast – there is something everyone in your group will like. And, of course, great coffee, mimosas, and bloody mary’s to top off any bachelorette breakfast. Get there early as you will likely have to wait.
Shop along Center Street
Center Street is the main street in town and it is filled with cute beach boutiques, surf shops, and great restaurants. Plan to shop while you wait for a dinner reservation or make a whole afternoon of it! Be sure to stop into McKevlin’s, Big John’s, Ocean Surf Shop and Palms!
Stand Up Paddleboard or Kayak on the Folly River
You have to get out on the Folly River. It is truly so stunning – go in the morning for a quiet, peaceful time of day or in the evening you will catch a spectacular sunset view!
Attend the Sea and Sand Festival
Folly has tons of fun festivals throughout the year that local’s love! Some of our favorites are Taste of Folly and the Sea and Sand Festival. Check the calendar for upcoming dates to plan your trip around.
Catch a fish from the Folly Beach Fishing Pier
Take your own fishing pole and see what you can catch from the popular Folly Fishing Pier. Whether you want to fish or not, it is a MUST DO. You have to take a stroll down the pier and enjoy the islands beauty! It’s a great spot to take a good photo too 🙂
Listen to live music
There is always live music somewhere on Folly. Head to the city’s calendar to see who is playing and when. Some of the best spots are Snapper Jacks, Rita’s, The Washout, Crab Shack, Bounty Bar, Chico Feo, and Loggerhead’s.
