The Amalfi Coast is one of the top travel destinations in the entire world. And for good reason. I dreamed of visiting this coastline and it was truly better than I could have imagined. The light is magical, the cliff towards the sea is massive, the colors, the food – it all made for one of my favorite travel experiences to date. You may be wondering what are the best things to do on the Amalfi Coast? Is it only a beach? What else can I do? There is plenty to do on this little slice of paradise and I’m sharing all of my favorites below!

1. Take a Boat Cruise along the Coast
I always love to get on the water in any destination and this was one of my favorite things we did on the Amalfi Coast! It provides such a different perspective of your surroundings. Amalfi is definitely one of those places you HAVE to view from the water! You are here for the amazing coastline after all and this is how to see it. I recommend booking a private Amalfi Coast boat tour.
2. Taste the Local Flavors
The food in Italy is simply next level. Easily the best pizza I have ever had was in Amalfi at Borgo Santandrea Hotel. However, there is so much more to Italy than pizza and pasta. There are TONS of Michelin starred chefs and restaurants throughout Italy. Expect anything from poolside pizza to family run restaurants and fine dining experiences at places like La Libreria and Sensi.
3. Try Limoncello
Amalfi Coast lemons are famous! You have to try limoncello here with fresh lemons. It also makes a great souvenir to take home.
4. Shopping in Positano
When you think Amalfi Coast, you probably picture Positano! With its iconic colorful cliffside buildings and stunning beaches, Positano is a must-visit town on the Amalfi Coast. Known for its picturesque views and charming atmosphere, Positano offers a unique experience for tourists. Positano is home to many boutiques and shops selling local ceramics, clothing, and other souvenirs. It’s a great place to find unique gifts and mementos of your trip to the Amalfi Coast.
5. Relax at the Beach & Beach Clubs
Soak up the sun at the beach or pools! Hopefully you book a hotel with one so you have easy access to relax! If not, take a trip to Positano and use that beach or the swanky beach club on the end of the beach – La Scogliera Positano.
6. Take a Cooking Class
I mean when in Italy you have to take a cooking class right?? Step inside a local’s home to learn the art of pasta making. Mamma Agata is located in Ravello up on the cliff with amazing seaside views while you dine and sip local Italian wines.
Best Cooking Classes on the Amalfi Coast:
- Mamma Agata
- Cooking Class Plus Wine Tasting Experience
- Hands on Cooking Class and Farmhouse visit
- Genuine Home Cooking Class
7. Hike the Path of the Gods
The Path of the Gods is one of the most scenic hikes in Italy. It’s a 3 hour (easy) hike that begins in the village of Bomerano and ends in Positano. Even though I was pregnant at the time, I had all intentions of waking up early one morning to do this and then having lunch in Positano. Once we were there, I didn’t feel like getting in a car to get to the starting point and miss time at the beach. I’m glad we maximized our short time at the beach, but this is high on my list for our next visit.

8. Pamper Yourself at the Spa
No vacation is complete without a relaxing day at the spa for me. Book your experience at Borgo Santandrea, Santa Caterina or Belmond Caruso Spa for the ultimate luxury experience.
9. Visit Duomo di Amalfi
Amalfi is a historic town that should not be missed during your visit to the Amalfi Coast. It is home to the famous Amalfi Cathedral (Duomo di Amalfi), a stunning architectural masterpiece that showcases the town’s rich history. The narrow streets of Amalfi are filled with charming shops, cafes, and restaurants, offering a delightful atmosphere for visitors to explore. The picturesque harbor is a great place to relax and take in the beautiful views of the coast. Whether you’re interested in history, shopping, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Amalfi is a town that has it all.
10. Spend a day in Ravello
Perched high above the coast, Ravello offers panoramic vistas of the sparkling blue sea and the surrounding cliffs. The town is famous for its beautiful gardens, such as the Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, which are filled with vibrant flowers and lush greenery. Ravello is known for its cultural events, including the famous Ravello Festival, which takes place every summer. The festival features concerts, plays, and other performances in a beautiful outdoor setting.
11. Explore Smaller Towns like Atrani and Praiano
Whether you’re seeking tranquility or simply want to escape the crowds, Praiano is a hidden gem on the Amalfi Coast. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the cliffside paths, taking in the panoramic views of the sparkling blue sea. Praiano also has its own beautiful beach, Marina di Praia, where you can relax and unwind.
12. Day Trip to Capri
Capri is an island off the coast about a 1 hour boat ride away. The island is known for its incredible views, hiking trails, and outdoor activities. One of the top things to do is see the giant sea stacks that jut out from the coast called Faraglioni. Capri offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, swimming, and boating. The island’s rugged terrain and crystal-clear waters make it a great destination for adventure-seekers and nature lovers. If that's not your speed, Capri is home to many high-end boutiques and shops selling designer clothing, jewelry, and other luxury goods. It’s a great place to find unique gifts and souvenirs.
13. Day Trip to the Ruins of Pompeii
Less than an hour from the Amalfi Coast you can visit the famous ancient ruins of Pompeii. Learn all about what Pompeii was like before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Explore important landmarks including the Basilica, the Forum, the thermal baths. If a guided tour isn't your style, try an audio tour so you can hear the history while exploring at your own pace.
