If you missed the news, I recently announced that I am expecting a little one this year! Of course, planning the babymoon was one of the first things we started doing. Where would we go for our last international trip just the two of us?
There are so many incredible places to go and you may want to check off a big bucket list item before you have kids. We really wanted to do a safari, but some complications made that out of the question for us. Since we had to cancel a trip we had planned that fell over our due date, we decided to move it up and do ITALY for our babymoon. I’ll be sharing alllll about that trip, but here are a few other places that would make the BEST babymoon destinations for you!

The Best Babymoon Destinations Around the World
Are you expecting a new addition to your family? A babymoon is the perfect way to enjoy some quality time with your partner before your little one arrives. Here are some of the best babymoon destinations around the world.
Leisurely Tip: My biggest piece of advice is to think about what you will feel comfortable doing. If you prefer to be near a nice hospital, Europe might be a good option vs a remote island for this trip. Do you want to be active or simply sit on the beach all day?
Hawaii
Known for its stunning beaches and incredible views, Hawaii is the perfect destination for a relaxing babymoon. Take a dip in the ocean, go for a hike, or simply lounge by the pool. Plus, there a some world-class hotels and resorts to make this the perfect luxury babymoon!
Top Babymoon Resorts in Hawaii
- Hotel Wailea, Relais & Chateaux – I have been eyeing this property for a visit to Hawaii! It is adults only so enjoy that while you still can!
- Montage Kapalua Bay
- Sensei Lana’i, A Four Seasons Resort
- Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection
Greek Isles
Easily one of the top babymoon destinations in all of Europe! Greece is so romantic to me. Maybe it is the ancient Greek mythology, the whitewashed buildings, the wine, or a love story from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but I simply adore it!
There are so many islands to choose from so you can’t go wrong, but my faves are Sifnos and Milos. Either way, you will enjoy riding an ATV around the islands, staying in luxury accommodations, beach hopping, and admiring the dreamiest sunsets over the Aegean Sea!
Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos has become a very popular island in the Caribbean lately. It’s really easy to reach as it sits right past The Bahamas with plenty of direct flights from the East Coast. It is surrounded by one of the largest reefs in the world making it ideal for diving and fishing.
If Bora Bora is out of the budget or is too far, this is your next best choice as it is similar to the atolls of the South Pacific.
I would go simply for the amazing, luxury resorts like Amanyara and Pine Cay.
Where to Stay in Turks and Caicos for a Babymoon
- Amanyara – secluded luxury retreat
- Pine Cay – private island
- COMO Parrot Cay – the most peaceful rooms and villas
- Grace Bay Beach Club – best area for snorkeling if you are an adventurous mama-to-be
Tulum, Mexico
There are endless options for places to visit in Mexico for your babymoon. Visit the cenotes of Tulum, the dramatic coastline of Cabo or charming towns like San Miguel de Allende. I suggest heading to the ultra chic beach destination known as Tulum!
Tulum is home to ancient mayan ruins, bright blue cenotes, white sandy beaches and a dynamic restaurant scene. Tulum is very wellness oriented so expect yoga classes, plenty of vegan options, and health conscious travelers. Stay at one of the many chic beachside hotels like Hotel Panamera for an intimate setting.
Florida
There are so many great places to go in Florida from Key West to Miami to the panhandle. I recommend 30A, although I may do a long weekend in Miami before baby since there’s a direct flight from where I live!
If you aren’t familiar with 30A, don’t worry. I was not either – it’s one of the best kept secrets in the South. 30A is a highway that runs along the panhandle of Florida. The highway runs through tons of ultra-charming beach towns which is how the whole area became known as 30A. They are all super unique, but share one thing in common: they are not tourist traps. There’s no mega condos, timeshares, or major hotels. You’ll find amazing boutique hotels and clear water all sans passport!
Best 30A Babymoon Hotels and Rentals:
- The Pearl Hotel, Rosemary Beach
- Alys Beach
Charleston, South Carolina
This charming town will remind you of Europe with its cobblestoned streets and colonial architecture. Plus, the colorful pastel homes are so picturesque! Charleston was one of the original colonies in America so it’s filled with rich history. In addition, Charleston is a major foodie town with some of the best chefs – many named James Beard Award winners!
Head to the beaches for a relaxing escape, then move to the historic district to enjoy the culture and sample the cuisine!
Where to Stay for a Charleston Babymoon:
- The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort – perfect beachfront resort destination with a spa. I had my mini-moon here after my wedding.
- The Dewberry – the trendiest hotel in Charleston with an amazing rooftop bar and intimate spa
- Hotel Bennett – one of the newer hotels exuding luxury!
- The Charleston Place – the most iconic luxury hotel that helped put Charleston on the map!
- Zero George – intimate, romantic, dreamy
Costa Rica
Get a taste of the “pura vida” lifestyle down in Costa Rica. This Central American country is known for its biodiversity featuring volcanoes, rainforests, and beaches. It’s also home to exotic wildlife including parrots, sloths, and monkeys!
Stay at Casa Chameleon Hotel, an adults only resort perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect intimate spot for your tropical getaway to Costa Rica. The hotel can coordinate activities for you like a day trip to the rainforest, sunset sail, in-room massages, yoga and more. But you really don’t have to leave the resort with your own private infinity pool!
Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities. I have been several times and will be spending a few nights there during my babymoon to visit family friends! Enjoy wandering around the European streets, take a bike ride through Nyhavn, and dine on some of the world’s best cuisine!
Where to Stay in Copenhagen for Babymoon
- Hotel Sanders – Luxury boutique property in walking distance to Nyhavn – very hygge! We love staying here when we visit.
- Villa Copenhagen – A newer hotel that I am loving in Copenhagen!
Italy
Where I went on my babymoon! You can read all about what we did, but there are so many options of Italian destinations. Cruise around Lake Como on a classic wooden boat, step back in time in Rome, relax on the Amalfi Coast or explore the canals of Venice.
And honestly, what a perfect time to enjoy alllll the pasta and pizza and gelato with zero regrets!
Luxury Babymoon Hotels in Italy
- Borgo Santandrea Amalfi – Where I Stayed for My Babymoon!
- Il Sereno Lake Como
- Six Senses Rome
- Belmond Caruso Ravello
- La Palma Capri
San Juan, Puerto Rico
I went to San Juan for my bachelorette party and have been wanting to take my husband. It’s a great place for a couples trip! With a short flight from the East Coast, you can easily make it a long weekend babymoon destination. Explore the rainforest, relax on the beach, learn about the Spanish history, and take a sunset sail!

South Africa
I planned a real boujee babymoon to South Africa before learning my pregnancy was very high risk. I researched all the malaria-free lodges, if I needed vaccines (you don’t), and even some wineries with N/A wines I could taste in Stellenbosch! If you are feeling up to the long flight and comfortable going on Safari, I say do it! I wouldn’t go anywhere too remote like Tanzania, but South Africa is perfectly safe with access to care. People have babies there everyday!
My plan would be to spend a few nights in Cape Town and then a couple on Safari! You could also stay at one of the nice hotels in Stellenbosch or day trip there. I would go early in your second trimester as you’ll likely start feeling a bit uncomfortable as the bump grows into the later half of it.
Babymoon Hotels in South Africa:
Here is where we were planning to stay:
- Tintswalo Atlantic – Luxury hotel and Michelin star restaurant on site!
- Molori Safari – Madikwe Game Reserve (Big 5, malaria free reserve)
- Babylonstoren – Stellenbosch wine region, so swanky
Belize
My best friends recently spent their babymoon in Belize and I had so much fun researching for them. I did not know much about Belize, but it is the second largest reef in the world behind the Great Barrier Reef.
In Belize, you can enjoy the rainforest on the mainland then head down to the coast to stay on one of the many islands off the shore. Definitely go for an over the water bungalow! Belize will feel like two totally different vacations with these contrasting experiences.
Best Resorts in Belize
- Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club
- Alaia Belize
- Hamanasi Dive Resort
- Itz’ana Resort & Residences
- Matachica Beach Resort and Spa
Things to Consider When Planning a Babymoon
A few things to keep in mind when making plans for your babymoon.
- Access to Healthcare – how will you seek healthcare should you need it.
- High risk pregnancy – are you high risk? What are your limitations, should you stay domestic, etc. I would have never thought of this until I was high risk myself.
- What trimester you travel – it is best to travel in your second trimester as the nausea usually passes and you feel more energized. However, you can travel anytime up until about 36 weeks for air travel. Think about how far along you will be and where it might be best for you to go.
- Activities you feel up for – what do you really think you will feel like doing? Hiking, lounging at the beach, etc – pick your destination based on this. I walked almost 20,000 steps around Rome at 24 weeks and was incredibly exhausted!
- How long can you handle being on an airplane? – At 20 weeks, I was pretty uncomfortable in a 4 hour car ride. I would prefer flying so you can move around, but you may feel differently. Are you flying first class or economy? You may not feel up for an overnight flight if you can’t lie flat.
- What to wear on your babymoon – if you are pregnant during summer time maybe don’t go somewhere cold. Your winter clothes may not fit and it might be stressful to find appropriate attire. Something to think about!
- Get a doctors note for air travel – good to have a note just in case an airline asks for it to show how far along you are. Many airlines do not allow you to fly after 36 weeks – check with your airlines!
Places I Would Avoid for a Babymoon
I’m sure you are dying to check off a few bucket list places before your babymoon. I was too! Realistically, you need to think about IF you wound up in a hospital, is that the country you would want to do it? How quickly could you seek care or get back to the US? The health of you and your baby should be top priority!
These destinations were high on my bucket list, but off the table for my babymoon as someone traveling from the USA….
- Maldives – probably an unpopular opinion, but while it sounds amazing to be in actual paradise, it was too remote for me. I think islands are okay if you are somewhat close to the mainland, but the Maldives are literally the middle of nowhere and your closest country would be India.
- French Polynesia – same thoughts as above. I really considered Bora Bora, but the flight is SO long especially from the East Coast. This could be a better option if you live on the West Coast or Hawaii! Do what makes you feel comfortable 🙂
- Australia – While Australia would be an amazing and safe place to babymoon, it is just too far from home for this trip for me.
- Bali – SAME thoughts as above. Really don’t think I would want to wind up in a Balinese hospital either.
- Egypt – I’ve already seen the pyramids, but I’m sure many people want to check this off before kids. I personally would not want to be in a hospital here.
Babymoon FAQ & Tips
Answering a few of your most asked questions about babymoon-ing!
There are so many amazing destinations for a babymoon. You could go to Europe, South America, Mexico, or the Caribbean. I recommend picking somewhere with access to decent health care should you need it on your babymoon!
The best time to take your babymoon is in your second trimester. This is when you will be feeling your best and able to enjoy. The nausea has typically passed and your energy returns in the second trimester. By your third, you will be pretty big, feel tired, and probably out of breath easily. Most airlines do not allow pregnant women to fly after 36 weeks so do keep that in mind.
7 months is not too late for a domestic babymoon. At this stage, I would stay close to home or in the USA with access to quality healthcare. Plan a long weekend to Charleston, LA, Miami, NYC, or Key West for a nice escape pre-baby!
The length of your babymoon is up to you! If you are going international you may need 7-10 days to make it worthwhile. However, a long weekend trip or a staycation might be perfect. Decide what works best for you and your pregnancy!
