1. Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are located near Iceland between the North Atlantic Ocean and Norwegian Sea. The volcanic islands are made up of 18 different islands mostly connected by an impressive tunnel system or a ferry. Their beauty is other worldly.
There are waterfalls at every turn and they seem to come from nowhere, always flowing down the side of the mountain into the sea. There are more sheep than people who inhabit the islands. The coastline is dramatic and jaw dropping. The buildings feature grass roofs. It’s home to the adorable Atlantic Puffins during their nesting season. Everywhere you look in the Faroe Islands has an unbelievable view.
You can truly show up, rent a car, and enjoy exploring this amazing country at a slow place. With so few residents, it will feel like you have the island to yourself at times. We drove to different villages, did ample hiking, saw puffins, and dined at some of the highly rated restaurants.
It’s the perfect destination for introverts and those who seek slow, meaningful travel.

2. Patagonia, Chile
Patagonia is known as the southernmost region in South America split across both Argentina and Chile. It is an incredibly vast landscape with glaciers, iconic hikes, national parks, and spectacular wildlife. It is the ultimate in secluded nature destinations.
Stay at my favorite hotel, Awasi Patagonia, for a truly luxe and off the beaten path experience. With only 14 villas located in the middle of nowhere, you can really disconnect for a quiet vacation. You will have your own private villa away from other guests and a guide with a 4×4 who will plan your adventures. Whether you want to hike the iconic Torres Del Paine trail, spot wildlife, or visit an estancia, they’ll handle it all for you.
In additon, the food at Awasi is amazing and they cater to any of your preferences or restrictions. The guides pack amazing picnics for your daytime adventures and at dinner, cozy up at a table in the lodge looking out at the mountain ranges.
The beauty and vastness of Patagonia is truly remarkable – just look at these photos.

3. Seychelles
I visited the Seychelles for my honeymoon and it was the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever taken.
We stayed on a private island at Six Senses Zil Pasyon where we had our own secluded villa with a plunge pool. We never needed to leave the room – we ate breakfast on our patio, sipped rosé in our pool and stargazed by night. But of course, we did leave the room to explore the island!
The island has a large white sand beach that you access through their vegetable farm. We were usually the only people on the entire beach every time. One of the best days was kayaking to a tiny little island called Cocos Island that had the massive granite boulders that the Seychelles are known for. We had the whole island to ourselves and just basked in the incredible natural scenery.
The hotel has an amazing spa overlooking the Indian Ocean where you’ll want to spend as much time as possible!
And, if you are looking for a bit more activity, you can ferry over to La Digue. It’s an island that doesn’t allow cars so you have to bike around to the various beaches! You’ll want to visit Anse Source d’Argent and see the giant aldabra tortoises!

4. Costa Rica
If you are looking for solitude surrounded by nature, head to the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. You’ll stay at Casa Chameleon Las Catalinas – an adults only boutique hotel overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Now a member of Relais & Chataeux, you can count on this hotel offering incredible food and service.
Much like the other hotels that I have mentioned, you will have your own villa with private pool offering complete seclusion and relaxation. When we wanted to explore, the hotel arranged everything and we loved doing a sunset sail, taking a surf lesson, and paddle boarding from the shore. We saw plenty of wildlife from monkeys to iguanas.
There is a small village called Las Catalinas with additional beach, restaurants, and shops if you do want to get out and about!
It is the perfect quiet tropical getaway for couples!

5. The Bahamas
The Bahamas are the perfect place to escape the crowds and enjoy a “quiet life” vacation. I recommend visiting Elbow Cay, a laid back island in the Abacos.
Because there are only a few hotels on the island, the best place to stay is usually a rental home. You can dine out or eat in, relax on the beach, and explore the rest of the Abacos via boat!
One of my favorite days was lounging on the beach at Tahiti Beach, a white sandy spot on the far end of the island. It was the perfect way to check out and put our minds at ease.
In the evenings, you can head over to Firefly Resort to have a casual dinner and try their signature cocktail, a piña colada with Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. It’s a the perfect way to catch sunset and end your day.

6. Sifnos, Greece
Next, Sifnos is my favorite Greek island for its quiet nature. While many Greek Islands (like Santorini) can be crowded, Sifnos offers an escape as a lesser known island. They do not have an airport, only a ferry, which deters many visitors and keeps it more local. You can reach it via the high speed ferry from Athens in under two hours.
You’ll stay at a villa or my favorite hotel, Verina Astra, which overlooks the Aegean Sea. During the day, you can beach hop, explore the traditional villages, take a pottery class, or sail around the island. At night, there are tons of amazing restaurants on Sifnos as it is known as the foodie island!
Overall, it’s a relaxing island, where you can really soak up the culture and immerse yourself in the destination. I’m heading back to Sifnos this summer and I can’t wait for a slow paced vacation.

7. Utah
If you want to stay more local to the US, Utah is a great option for a slow paced vacation. Stay at the exclusive The Lodge at Blue Sky, an Auberge Collection hotel located on a ranch outside of Salt Lake City. We stayed in one of their Creek Houses which was a private suite with patio overlooking a mountain stream.
In the summer, there are tons of opportunities to explore from nature trails to horseback riding to ending the day at the distillery for a cocktails! It is very family friendly, so if you are taking the kids along there will be a kids camp for them.
The spa is not to be missed and the restaurant onsite is amazing with tons of great options from breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Furthermore, we loved the staff at the hotel that really went above and beyond to provide an exceptional experience. You won’t be disappointed at this luxury resort!

8. Switzerland
Lastly, if you really want to focus on wellness, head to Switzerland to the Bürgenstock Resort and Alpine Spa. This destination spa resort is situated above Lake Lucerne in the Burgenberg Mountain range. It is one of the nicest (and largest) spas I have ever been to, with Six Senses Zil Pasyon right behind it.
The main feature at the spa is the large infinity pool overlooking Lake Lucerne and the Alps. Make sure to head downstairs from the pool to check out the sauna, cold plunge pool at 14°C, and relaxation room. The relaxation room is endless with plenty of options to sit! We spent an hour here reading books next to the floor to ceiling windows. Plan to spend a whole day rotating between spa treatments, sauna, cold plunge, and the infinity pool.
Additionally, there is plenty to do across the resort from golf, tennis, hiking, seeing the Hammetschwand Lift, and dining at the ample restaurants. There’s so much to do onsite so you can really have everything at your fingertips without needing to plan in advance.

Slow Travel Tips
As a frequent traveler, I get it and am 100% percent on board with this trend towards slow travel. Life can be hectic and it takes a ton of effort to plan an unforgettable trip. Not only that, there’s this pressure (thanks to social media) to travel to bucket list destinations and of course look cute doing it for the photos. It can be fun, but also exhausting.
Here are a few tips to help you slow down on your next trip:
- Make the planning process easy on yourself
- Travel to less popular destinations
- Rent a home or stay at an intimate hotel off the beaten path
- Pack light
- Use airplane mode to unplug from your phone at certain times
- Travel in shoulder seasons to avoid crowds
- Don’t have an itinerary other than a few restaurant reservations
And that’s all! Where will you plan to spend a low key, quiet trip this summer? Let me know in the comments and feel free to ask any questions.
