The Best Areas to Stay in Sifnos
A guide to the best areas in Sifnos, things to do in Sifnos, places to eat, and my favorite hotel picks!
1. Platis Gialos
Platis Gialos is my top recommendation if you want to be right along a great beach with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. It is great place to stay for anyone including families or couples.
Platis Gialos has a large, sandy beach that wraps around a quiet lagoon that is perfect for swimming. Along the shoreline, you’ll find several of the best restaurants in Sifnos and plenty of charming shops!
Sifnos is known as the foodie island and two of the best beachside spots are located here: Omega-3 and Maiolica.
Platis Gialos is the most popular (and most developed) beach in Sifnos and for good reason. It is situated somewhat between Apollonia and Vathi making it easy to access.
It also neighbors Apokofto Beach where you can visit the beautiful Chrisopigi Monastery.
Make plans to stay at Verina Terra which is the sister property to the boutique hotel I personally like to stay at in Sifnos. It’s a gorgeous 4 star property with Mediterranean design and amenities like a quiet pool, restaurant, and bar. The landscaping is amazing with sprawling pink bougainvillea and flower pots throughout.

Verina Terra
TripAdvisor | Expedia | Booking.com
Verina Terra is one of my favorite stays in Sifnos. It feels laid-back yet still luxurious, with earthy tones, whitewashed walls, and a gorgeous pool surrounded by olive trees. You’re just a short walk from the beach and all the tavernas in Platis Gialos, but the hotel itself feels like a private little hideaway. I love how welcoming the staff are—you instantly feel at home here. It’s the perfect balance if you want to be close to everything but still have a peaceful retreat.
Enalion Suites Sifnos
TripAdvisor | Expedia | Booking.com
If you dream of waking up to the sound of the waves, Enalion Suites is for you. These suites are right on Platis Gialos Beach, so you can step outside and be in the sand within seconds. The rooms are spacious with plenty of natural light, and many have balconies with beautiful sea views.
I especially recommend it if you’re traveling with family or staying for more than a few days—the suites come with kitchenettes, which makes mornings and snacks so much easier. It’s one of the most convenient places to stay in Sifnos, with tavernas and cafés just steps away.

2. Artemonas
Named for the goddess Artemis, Artemonas is the second largest town in Sifnos, but don’t let that fool you. It is a still a very tiny and quaint village. It’s a super charming area with a labyrinth of alleyways to wander looking for ceramics and pastry shops!
We stayed in Artemonas in a more secluded area and absolutely loved the hotel – Verina Astra! So much that I’m actually returning to the island to stay there. It is very off the beaten path, not quite in the main part of Artemonas which is why we love it. It’s a hidden gem, but close enough to make getting around easy. Plus it has an amazing infinity pool overlooking the Aegean Sea and Panagia Poulati (a blue domed church!).
One of my favorite shops on the island is located in Artemonas, Sifnos Stoneware. You’ll see their handmade dinnerware used in restaurants across the island. We bought plates to use in our own home back in Charleston and we loving having a reminder of Sifnos everyday!
The Best Hotel in Artemonas
Verina Astra Sifnos
TripAdvisor | Expedia | Booking.com
Verina Astra is hands-down the best boutique hotel in Sifnos. We’ve stayed here twice now and it’s a place I’ll always come back to. The vibe is intimate and stylish, with suites that feel private yet connected to the beauty of the island.
Every corner of the property is designed for relaxation—you can lounge by the infinity pool or sip a glass of wine on your terrace while watching the sunset. And the views? Truly unmatched. You won’t find a better spot to take in the Aegean.
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway or simply want a peaceful escape with a touch of luxury, this is the hotel I recommend most in Sifnos. (Check out my full Verina Astra Review!)

3. Apollonia
Apollonia is the largest town on the island right in the middle at its peak. It’s the next village over from Artemonas.
The views from this area are stunning as you can see in all directions towards to sea. There is a long pedestrian street that runs through Apollonia that has great shops and dining. It is so lively and you can really feel immersed in the culture of the island when you are here.
If you want to be in a busier area with great hotels, a supermarket, and easy access to the rest of the island, Apollonia is for you. You will also have convenient access to their public transportation.
The Best Hotels in Apollonia
Nival Boutique Hotel
TripAdvisor | Expedia | Booking.com
Nival Boutique Hotel is a gem right in the heart of Apollonia. It is so pretty and the pool looks amazing! Staying here means you’re in the center of everything—restaurants, shops, and nightlife are all just steps away, making it so easy to get around without a car.
The hotel itself still feels calm and refined, with modern, stylish rooms and balconies that look out over the surrounding hills and villages. I love that you get those sweeping views while still being in the middle of town. If you want a base that’s both convenient and comfortable, Nival is the best choice in Apollonia.

4. Kamares
Kamares is the main port town on the island and is where you’ll enter when arriving on the ferry to Sifnos from Athens or other islands. It is on the other side of the island from the above mentioned areas, but it’s super convenient for its accessibility. If staying in this area, you’ll definitely want a rental car to explore the rest of the island.
Kamares has a large beach much like Platis Gialos with a quiet lagoon making it very family friendly. There’s plenty of restaurants, hotels, and villas along the beach as well that offer convenience for traveling with kids.
It is a definitely the most touristy area of the island, but for good reason! Keep in mind, Sifnos is not a super touristy island in the first place.
The Best Hotels in Kamares
Apsila Pool Suites
Apsila Pool Suites is all about the views—you’ll wake up to the bay right in front of you. The private plunge pools make it feel extra special and perfect for a relaxing stay.
Voya Sifnos
Voya Sifnos is a charming boutique hotel with thoughtful design and warm hospitality. It’s stylish yet cozy, and just a short walk from the beach and tavernas.
Sifnos House Rooms and Spa
Sifnos House Rooms and Spa is one of the few hotels on the island with a full spa, which makes it a standout in Kamares. The rooms are bright and modern, and the location is great for exploring the port town.
Filadaki Villas
Filadaki Villas is simply stunning—just scroll through the photos and you’ll see why. It’s spacious, beautifully designed, and ideal if you want more of a villa-style stay.

5. Vathi
Vathi is a bit off the beaten path as it sits behind a more mountainous area of Sifnos. It’s a quieter beach than Kamares with a 5-star hotel and many great restaurants along the beachfront. If you are looking for a more resort style property on the island, Vathi and Elies Resort is for you.
We spent a whole day in Vathi during our trip and loved the quiet beach and seaside restaurants. However, I thought the beach itself was not as nice as Platis Gialos.
It is a bit far from other areas of the island so you might not get out to explore quite as much if you choose this area to base. It took about 30 minutes from Artemonas on our ATV. With the winding roads, it takes a bit longer than GPS might tell you.
I would stay at Villa Verina if basing in Vathi. It’s got three, multi level buildings that are perfect for families or large groups while still being more intimate! It also has a pool with lounge area, dock area, equipment for water sports, chef service available, playground, and tennis court! You truly have everything you need for a luxury stay.
The Best Hotels in Vathi
Villa Verina
Villa Verina is perfect if you’re traveling with a group or big family. It’s spacious, beautifully designed, and gives you that private villa feel while still being close to the beach.
Elies Resort
Elies Resort is the only true 5-star hotel in Sifnos and the best resort-style property on the island. With its beachfront location, large pool, and luxury amenities, it’s where you’ll want to stay if you’re looking for a full-service experience.

6. Faros Beach
On our last trip to Sifnos, we spent a couple of days soaking up the charm of Faros Beach—and I would absolutely make it a top choice for where to stay in Sifnos.
This quiet fishing village has some of the most peaceful beaches on the island, along with a few of my favorite restaurants, like Pelicanos for fresh seafood and Betty’s Bakery for irresistible treats.
It’s also just a short and scenic hike to the stunning Chrysopigi Monastery.
Where to Stay in Faros Beach
Nos Hotel
TripAdvisor | Expedia | Booking.com
For a luxury stay in Faros, I’d book NOS Hotel. It’s one of the newer hotels on the island, set right along the water with beautiful views and a stylish, modern design. Plus, an amazing onsite restaurant overlooking the sea and a spa!
While it’s not directly on the sand, you can easily walk to both Faros and Fassoulou beaches in just a few minutes.
