2. Visit the Magnolia Plantation & Gardens
In March, the azaleas are in bloom at Magnolia Plantation, making it the perfect time to explore the stunning gardens. Whether you’re walking the pathways or taking a boat ride along the Ashley River, the spring colors will leave you in awe.
3. Stroll Through Hampton Park for the Azaleas
A local secret, Hampton Park is a beautiful spot in the heart of Charleston where azaleas bloom in March. It’s less crowded than Magnolia Plantation, so it’s a peaceful place to enjoy the flowers, have a picnic, or just take in the sights.
I live in the neighborhood and take daily walks in the park all year round. The few weeks in March when the pink azaleas pop are some of my absolute favorite days of the year!

April in Charleston: Full Bloom and Perfect Weather
April is when Charleston truly comes into its own, with perfect temperatures and a city that’s in full bloom. Here’s your Charleston April Bucket List:
1. Visit Middleton Place
April is an ideal time to visit Middleton Place, where the gardens are in full bloom. The historic grounds, with their meticulously designed gardens and the famous rice fields, make it a peaceful and beautiful spot to enjoy the spring season.

With the warm weather in full swing, a harbor tour is a must-do. See Charleston from the water as you cruise by historical landmarks like Fort Sumter and The Battery. The views of the coastline and the skyline are breathtaking.
4. Explore the Historic Plantations
April is an excellent time to visit the historic plantations around Charleston, such as Drayton Hall or Boone Hall Plantation. The gardens are lush, and the weather is perfect for an afternoon of exploration.
5. Experience the Flowertown Festival
April brings the Flowertown Festival to Summerville, just a short drive from downtown Charleston. This charming event celebrates the blooming of the azaleas with a parade, arts and crafts booths, and delicious food from local vendors.
6. Cooper River Bridge Run
One of Charleston’s most iconic events, the Cooper River Bridge Run takes place in April (sometimes the last weekend of March). May brings the world-renowned Spoleto Festival USA to Charleston. This arts festival features incredible performances in theater, opera, music, and dance. It’s a must-attend for anyone who appreciates world-class art and performances.
The festival runs for two weeks over the last week of May and the first week of June! My favorite performances to catch at ones held at The Cistern Yard. It is the most gorgeous outdoor setting for an intimate concert under the Spanish moss draped oaks in downtown Charleston!
2. Picnic in Waterfront Park
May is the perfect time for a picnic in Waterfront Park. Grab a takeout meal from one of Charleston’s delicious restaurants and enjoy it in the park. With views of the harbor, fountains, and greenery, it’s a relaxing and picturesque spot to spend the afternoon.
3. Relax at Folly Beach
As the weather warms up, head out to Folly Beach to enjoy some sun, surf, and sand. Whether you’re lounging on the beach or taking a surf lesson, this laid-back beach is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In May, the Charleston City Market is in full swing, with local vendors offering handmade goods, art, and unique souvenirs. This historic market is a great place to shop for gifts and souvenirs while enjoying the lively atmosphere.

May kicks off summer with Memorial Day Weekend, and Charleston’s beaches are the perfect place to unwind. Head to Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, or Sullivan’s Island for sun, surf, and sand.
