If you’re wondering which are the best beaches to visit in Sifnos, Greece, you’re in the right place. I’ve been lucky to explore this stunning island twice. First as a couple with my husband, and then again with our 11-month-old and our friends’ 2-year-old in tow.
We rented an ATV or car both times, which was the perfect way to discover all the hidden gems and popular spots scattered around the island.
In this guide, I’ll take you through the best beaches in Sifnos, sharing what each one is like and what you can expect from sandy shores and calm waters to beachside restaurants and family-friendly tips.
I’ll also include two unique cliff jumping and swimming spots that are perfect if you’re looking to mix in a little adventure. Finally, I also have some important tips to make the most of your Sifnos beach vacation!

1. Platis Gialos
If you only have time for one beach in Sifnos, make it Platis Gialos. This is the island’s most cosmopolitan beach and for good reason. The golden sand stretches along a calm, quiet bay that feels more like a giant swimming pool than the Aegean Sea.
It’s perfect for swimming, especially if you’re traveling with kids. I’ve spent countless hours here, swimming in the crystal-clear water and lingering over long lunches with my toes still in the sand.
What makes Platis Gialos stand out is its access to shops and restaurants. The beach is lined with some of the best restaurants on the island, like Omega-3 (a must for seafood lovers) and Maiolica, which never disappoints. We always do lunch at Maiolica one day and dinner at Omega-3 another!
You’ll also find beach stores, cafés, and sunbeds with umbrellas for rent. Parking is easy with plenty of parking lots and everything is just steps from the water.
We usually skip the sunbed rentals and grab beach towels from the little beach shop instead. They always have a great selection, and it’s easy to roll them out wherever you find a good spot. That same shop is where we picked up the perfect baby float for our daughter—one of those unexpected but very welcome finds!
They also sell beach toys, so if you’re traveling with kids, you don’t need to stress about packing buckets and shovels. You can just grab what you need when you get there.
PRO TIP: Depending on the wind, the water can occasionally get a little rougher. It’s usually a calm lagoon, but I’ve seen it change with the weather, so it’s worth checking the forecast before heading out.
We love spending the better part of a day here swimming, relaxing, and then heading straight from the beach to lunch or an early dinner at one of the restaurants lining the shore. If you’re looking for an easy, no-hassle beach day with great food and all the conveniences at your fingertips, Platis Gialos is hard to beat. Especially if you’re staying nearby, everything you need is right there.
2. Faros Beach
Faros Beach completely stole my heart on our last trip to Sifnos. It’s a smaller, quieter beach that feels like a hidden gem, and it ended up being my absolute favorite. The vibe here is so relaxed, and the setting is stunning. You’re tucked into a peaceful little bay with calm water and a laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect if you’re craving something low-key.
There aren’t any sunbed or umbrella rentals, which honestly made it even better and less busy. We went with a group of friends and loved the simplicity. It was especially great for our baby. The water is shallow and easy to access, and the soft sand is perfect for sitting or playing. Our friends with toddlers agreed this was one of the most enjoyable and manageable beaches for kids.
The highlight for us was Pelicanos, a newer beachfront restaurant that we loved so much we went two days in a row. They have a few tables set right in the sand along the water, and it’s pure magic. We arrived right when they opened at 11am for early lunch and drinks, and ended up staying for hours. Our table was completely shaded, so we could enjoy our food while still dipping in and out of the sea. It was the easiest and most relaxing setup, especially with a baby in tow.
Pelicanos also has a great menu with something for everyone. The fish sandwich and homemade chips were a big hit with our whole group. We’re still talking about that lunch.
And right next door, don’t miss Betty’s Bakery. It’s hands down the best coffee shop on the island. We stopped there before the beach for iced coffee and light breakfast bites, and everything was delicious. Their fresh-squeezed lemonade is served in a clear can and is one of those little local treats you’ll think about long after your trip. It’s the perfect stop on your way to or from the beach.
Faros is easy to reach, with a small parking area nearby and a short walk down to the beach. There’s a little mini-market along the path if you need extra water or snacks. If you’re looking for a peaceful, local-feeling beach that’s ideal for families and long, lazy lunches, this is the one to prioritize.
3. Vlichó Beach Sifnos
Just across from Faros, Vlichó Beach is a peaceful spot with a totally different feel and it’s so close that you can definitely do both. You’ll find it by walking through a little alleyway at the end of Faros, and suddenly, the beach opens up with more space, more shade, and a laid-back, untouristed vibe.
Vlichó is a bit larger than Faros, and what makes it special are the trees that line the edge of the beach. They offer plenty of natural shade, which we loved. You don’t need an umbrella or a chair rental, just find a cozy spot under the trees and you’re good to go. The beach starts off shallow, so it’s great for wading, but the water does get deeper as you walk out.
We came here two days in a row and noticed that the water conditions can really vary depending on the wind. One day was super calm and glassy, and the next had small waves that made swimming a little trickier. It’s definitely worth checking the forecast or taking a peek before committing to a full beach day.
Vlichó is kind of connected on the trail that leads to Chrisopigi Monastery—you can actually see the monastery in the distance from the beach. This makes it a great combo if you want to explore the iconic church and enjoy a relaxing beach day in one trip.
This beach is all about keeping it simple. There aren’t any restaurants or cafés right on the sand, but you’re just steps from Faros, so you can easily walk over to Betty’s Bakery for coffee or back to Pelicanos for lunch. We loved the flexibility of popping between the two beaches depending on the vibe we were looking for.
If you’re in the mood for a more low-key, shaded beach day with space to spread out, Vlichó is a great option. It’s ideal for families, quiet swims, and a slower pace.
4. Cheronissos Beach
Cheronissos Beach feels like a little secret tucked away on the far end of Sifnos. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to reach by car, but the drive itself is worth it. You’ll wind through some of the most beautiful, mountainous parts of the island, and you really get a sense of how wild and varied Sifnos is beyond the main towns and beaches.
The beach is small and quiet, nestled in a tiny fishing village that stays wonderfully local. Many tourists don’t make it this far, which means you get a much more authentic and peaceful experience. We love coming here early in the morning when the light is soft, and the calm really sets in. It’s also a smart spot to choose if the wind picks up on the other side of the island. Cheronissos often stays calm while beaches elsewhere get choppy (and vice versa!)
After some beach time, Cheronissos Fish Taverna is a must-visit. This place serves some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste — they literally cook whatever was caught that day. We’ve returned again and again because it’s just that good, and the relaxed, local vibe of the village makes it feel like you’ve found a special corner of Greece few get to enjoy.
5. Vathi Beach
We visited Vathi on our first trip to Sifnos but skipped it on our second visit. It’s a bit farther out on the island, so if your schedule is tight, you might want to prioritize closer beaches. That said, if you have plenty of time, Vathi is definitely worth the trip. It feels a bit more organized compared to some of the quieter spots, with chair rentals, hotels, and a handful of restaurants right on the beach.
We had lunch at Bola Beach Bar Vathi and loved it. The menu has a great variety to please everyone — from fresh seafood and classic Mediterranean dishes to burgers (including a tasty veggie burger) and even pizza if you’re craving a break from traditional Greek food. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, making it a perfect stop after a morning swim or beach stroll.
Parking is available but can fill up during peak times, so try to arrive early. Vathi is a beautiful, well-rounded beach if you want a bit of convenience with your seaside day.
6. Poulati – Cliff Jumping
Poulati is one of those hidden gems you don’t find unless someone points you in the right direction — in our case, the wonderful staff at Verina Astra Hotel tipped us off, and we’re so glad they did. Located way below the hotel, this spot isn’t your typical sandy beach. Instead, it’s a rocky quarry perfect for swimming on calm days when the water is glassy and inviting.
Getting there is part of the adventure. The walk down is beautiful but definitely a bit of a hike. You’ll follow winding paths that lead past the charming Panagia Poulati Monastery, which adds a peaceful, almost spiritual vibe to the journey. Just be ready for the climb back up — it’s a serious workout but worth every step.
Poulati is not kid-friendly unless your little ones are older and confident swimmers. It’s all about soaking in the clear water, the quiet, and the natural beauty on those calm, wind-free days. If it’s breezy, I’d skip this one because the waves can get rough and the rocky shore isn’t ideal for safety.
7. Kastro – Cliff Jumping Spot
If you’re ready for a break from sandy beaches and want something truly unique, there’s a secret spot in Kastro that’s perfect for cliff jumping. It is one of my absolute favorite things to do in Sifnos!
We went early in the morning and had the place all to ourselves, but by the time we left, quite a few people had arrived. It’s definitely worth getting there early if you want some peace and quiet.
You’ll find this hidden gem right down a paved path on the way to the Church of the Seven Martyrs. The church and the surrounding cliffs are accessible via steps and a paved trail leading down from Kastro on the right side.
Just a heads-up that it’s not ideal if you’re not in decent shape. The walk down is a bit steep and requires some care. I did carry our toddler down there though and my husband and I took turns swimming while the other held her. It was challenging to climb back up after but so rewarding! The clear water and the thrill of cliff jumping make it unforgettable and one of my favorite parts of our trip.
That said, be careful. Getting in and out of the water can definitely be hazardous. If the sea isn’t calm, I wouldn’t jump in because the waves can push you against the rocks, making climbing back up risky. Safety first!
8. Kamares Beach Sifnos
Kamares is the main beach in Sifnos in the bustling port town and it’s by far the most organized spot on the island. If you want easy access and all the amenities, this is your go-to beach. The sand is soft, the water warm, clear, and shallow which is perfect for swimming and lounging without any fuss.
Many of the restaurants and beach bars along the waterfront rent sunbeds and umbrellas, usually for around 10 to 12 Euros. It’s super convenient if you want to relax in comfort without bringing your own gear. Just keep in mind, Kamares is also the most touristy beach on the island. It gets busy, especially in high season, so if you prefer a quieter, more local vibe, you might want to explore some of the smaller beaches instead.
Still, Kamares has its charm with a lively atmosphere, great food nearby, and the convenience of being right in town. It’s a classic for a reason.
Tips for Visiting Sifnos Beaches
Before you pack your beach bag and head out for the day, here are a few tips to make the most of your beach time in Sifnos:
1. Check the wind forecast
This is a big one! The wind can change everything. We’ve shown up to beaches that were way too rough for swimming one day and then calm as glass the next. You’ll want to know which direction the wind is coming from—if it’s too strong on one side of the island, you can almost always find a calmer beach on the opposite coast.
2. Rent a car or ATV
The buses in Sifnos are reliable and affordable, but having your own rental makes beach hopping so much easier. We’ve done it both ways and loved the freedom of going at our own pace. Plus, after a hot day in the sun, there’s nothing like hopping into an air-conditioned car.
3. Traveling with kids? Stop by the beach shop in Platis Gialos
This was our first stop on day one and it was a lifesaver. They have beach towels, toys, snacks, fresh fruit, and water, everything you need for a beach day with little ones, so you don’t have to pack it all in your suitcase. We even found the perfect inflatable baby float for our daughter here!!
It’s called “Mini Market” on Google Maps and is right next to Omega-3 restaurant!
4. Go Early if You Want Shade or a Prime Restaurant Table
Many beaches in Sifnos don’t have a ton of natural shade or rows of umbrellas, especially the more local or secluded ones. We found that arriving around 10–11 AM gave us the best chance at finding shade under trees or grabbing a front-row table at places like Pelicanos in Faros. Also, make reservations at any restaurants you can especially at Omega-3!
5. Bring Water Shoes for Rocky Beaches and Cliff Spots
Not all beaches are sandy! Poulati and the cliff-jumping spot in Kastro both have rocky entry points that can be slippery or sharp. Water shoes or sturdy sandal made it much easier and safer for us and gave us peace of mind when carrying our daughter.
6. Don’t Rely on Cell Service and Download Offline Maps
Some of the best beaches (like Cheronissos) are at the far edges of the island, and cell service can drop. We always download an offline map of Sifnos in Google Maps just in case. It’s helpful for navigation if you are driving and also for marking places you want to return to.
7. Have Some Cash on Hand
While most places in Sifnos accept cards, the small beach shops, chair rentals, and a few traditional tavernas may prefer cash especially in more remote areas like Cheronissos. We usually kept a small stash of Euros in the beach bag just in case.
8. Pack a Lightweight Beach Bag You Can Carry Easily
Some beaches require a bit of a walk (or hike!) to reach, like Poulati or the path down to Kastro’s swimming rocks. Having a lightweight backpack-style beach bag made these walks way easier than juggling totes and towels.
