Best Areas to Stay in Milos, Greece
If you’re looking for the best places to stay in Milos, you’ll want to consider the island’s main settlements, as well as some of its charming fishing villages and beach towns. Milos offers a variety of areas to stay, each with its own unique charm and attractions.
Adamas, the island’s main port, is a popular choice for its central location and easy access to restaurants, shops, and nightlife. Pollonia, on the northern coast, is known for its picturesque fishing village and tranquil beaches. Plaka, the island’s capital, offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea and is home to many traditional tavernas and cafes. Other areas to consider include the quiet village of Triovasalos and the secluded beaches of Firiplaka and Tsigrado.
Pollonia, Milos – Away from The Crowds
I’m starting with where I chose to stay during my time in Milos. Pollonia is a charming village surrounding a small lagoon. There are boutique hotels, amazing restaurants, shops, and even the island’s winery, Kostantakis Winery, located in Pollonia. All of the best beaches, like the famous Sarakiniko, are located between Pollonia and Plaka so it’s easy to beach hop from here.
Pollonia is a beautiful fishing village located on the northeast coast of Milos. It’s known for its sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and charming restaurants and cafes. If you’re looking for a peaceful and picturesque place to stay, Pollonia is a great option.
We chose Pollonia because we felt like it had the nicest hotel option and loved the charming area with great restaurants. It’s far enough away from the main port area and Plaka, but only a 20 minutes drive. It was a great place to base and take our ATV all over the island.
Adamantas, Milos – Lively Town with Ferry Terminal
Adamantas is the main port of Milos and the commercial center of the island. It’s a bustling town with plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes. If you’re looking for convenience and easy access to transportation, Adamantas is a great place to stay.
Adamantas is the biggest town in Milos and the one you will enter if traveling via ferry or through the Milos Airport. The port town is super busy and there are ample accommodations, restaurants, and shops. Adamas is very conveniently located, but will be more touristy due to this.
There are some amazing restaurants in Adamas like O! Hamas! Taverna and wonderful beaches to enjoy. It’s a convenient place to base if you love the buzz of a crowd!
Plaka, Milos – Capital Town of Milos
Plaka is the capital town in Milos and it’s bursting with charm. The village is perched high on a cliff overlooking the sea. It’s filled with winding pedestrian streets, cute shops, sprawling pink bougainvillea, and iconic sunsets.
It’s known for its narrow streets, traditional Cycladic architecture, and beautiful churches. If you’re looking for a romantic and picturesque place to stay, Plaka is a great option.
There are no cars allowed in at the peak due to the narrow streets, but you can use a moped or bike. Don’t worry, if you rent a car or ATV, there is nearby parking. However, if you are not able to walk long distances, this area could present challenges to you.
Mandrakia, Milos – Quaint Fishing Village Vibes
Mandrakia is a small fishing village located on the north coast of Milos. It’s known for its colorful boats, traditional fishermen’s houses, and stunning rock formations. If you’re looking for a peaceful and authentic place to stay, Mandrakia is a great option.
Mandrakia was my favorite village we visited. It is the most picturesque fishing village with boat garages lining the lagoon. We loved the lagoon for swimming as it was shallow for a long way out. In addition, my favorite restaurant on the island is located here. You have to dine at Medusa on your trip, regardless of where you stay.
Mandrakia has only a few guest houses available so you will really get a more authentic experience staying here with only a few other tourists.
Tripiti – For History Buffs
Tripiti is a traditional village located on the southeast coast of Milos near Kilma Beach and Plaka. It’s known for its ancient theater, catacombs, and stunning views of the sea. If you’re looking for a cultural and historic place to stay, Tripiti is a great option. There are a few adorable cottages available here like Sunset on Tripiti and Entre Ciel et Mer Tripiti. You will be a 15 minute walk the beach and about the same to Plaka. Additionally, there are a few restaurants in town that you can easily walk to.

How to Get Around Milos, Greece
ATV
If you are staying on Milos for a couple days, I highly recommend renting an ATV. It is the best way to get around the island of Milos. One of the best things to do is beach hop and many beaches are heard to access via dirt roads or steep paths. Having an ATV made it easy to get in and out of places and also easier to find parking. Our hotel arranged the ATV ahead of time for us. We took a taxi from the port and it was waiting for us when we arrived at our hotel and was picked up after we left!
Rental Car
Otherwise, I would definitely plan to have a rental car. It will make getting around the island much simpler than counting on taxis for your day to day exploring.
Taxi
There are taxis available on the island. I suggest asking your hotel to help schedule these trips. We used a taxi for our transportation to/from the airport and they were great.
Milos FAQ and Travel Tips
- Make sure you organize transportation in advance because the port is quite busy and a little hectic on arrival.
- Secure your spot early for sunset in Plaka – the best restaurants fill fast and early.
- You must see Milos from the water! Make sure you book some type of boating activity.
- Pack hotel towels for beach hopping and for the ATV seat – it gets very hot while you’re playing on the beach.
- Sarakiniko is one of the most popular places to visit in Milos. I recommend you go early/late to avoid crowds and make sure the cruise ships aren’t in town the day you go. Our taxi driver told us they all come to Sarakiniko so we altered our plans to visit a different day.
- Be sure to make dinner reservations at some of the best places to eat in Milos.
