Things to do in Milos
My favorite things to do in Milos, Greece. From sailing to beach hopping to dining, there is so much to see and do on this tiny island in the Cyclades.
1. Sailing around Milos, Greece
I always love to see any destination from the water. You have to get out on the water for the different perspective it provides of the island. I recommend to book a boating or sailing trip for the day or for a sunset cruise!
Best Boat Tours in Milos:
- Catamaran Cruise to Kleftiko
- Half Day Speed Boat Cruise
- Half Day Sunset Cruise with Lunch
- Private Sail to Kleftiko
2. Beach Hopping
Beach hop! Milos has over 100 different beaches. Yes, they are really all different – from Sarakiniko the famous moon beach, to Tsigrado which is only accessible by ladder, to Mandrakia the old fishing village, and Firiplaka with the red clay cliffs! Read more about these fabulous Milos beaches in my guide to beach hopping in Milos.
3. Spend a day cliff jumping at Sarakiniko
Sarakiniko Beach is a must-visit when in Milos. This lunar landscape of white rocks and Aegean sea views will leave you mesmerized. Take some time to explore the area and swim in its crystal clear waters – it’s well worth your time!
4. Explore the island via ATV
The best way to get around the island is via ATV. Rent one through your hotel or any local company. It is the easiest way to reach and park at some of the beaches (many have steep roadways for entry). Take a cruise and get a little lost enjoying the scenery. Don’t forget a map though!
5. Try to the local flavors
Due to its island location, Milos is a prime destination for fresh seafood prepared with a grecian flare to it. Think shrimp saganaki, fresh crudo, sun dried fish, lots of real feta cheese, and locally grown vegetables. Make sure to try the many local restaurants around the island.
6. Taste wine at a local Kostantakis Winery
Kostantakis Cave Winery – We did not have the chance to make this happen on our last visit to Milos, but the winery looked really fun! It is family run and inside a cave so perfect for a break from the sun.

7. Shopping for souvenirs
There are so many cute shops around the islands main towns. Explore the port town of Adamas, charming Plaka, and more secluded Pollonia.
8. Take a sail to Kleftiko and the sea caves
The sailing catamaran cruise with Milos Adventures will take you to the parts of the island that can not be accessed from land. You’ll get to spend time at Kleftiko and legend has it the caves were a pirate hideout once upon a time! They provided water, beer/wine, plenty of snacks and fresh seafood, too! We booked the half day tour starting at Adamas and ending at Provotas. After the trip ends, they shuttle you back to Adamas, which I note because this was not clear when booking. This was truly the best day and we enjoyed meeting other people who were on the cruise with us.
9. Stroll through the pedestiran streets of Plaka
Located just a few kilometers away from Adamas, you won't want to miss the charming traditional whitewashed village of Plaka. Take a leisurely stroll through its cobblestone streets to soak up its tranquil atmosphere and take in quaint Greek cafes serving up delicious local seafood dishes. Be sure to also explore Sykia Cave located nearby! This stunning underground cave is filled with glittering stalactites and stalagmites that'll surely wow you.
10. Watch the most amazing sunset
You simply much witness sunset from Plaka. We got a table at Utopia and split a bottle of rosé as the sun dropped below the horizon. You can watch from anywhere in Plaka as it’s the highest point on the island. There are plenty of restaurants and public viewing points to watch the Milos sun dip into the dark sea.
11. Climb down the ladder to the secret Tsigrado Beach
I loved this beach! It is secluded and definitely the most unique other than Sarakiniko. You climb through a crevice in a cliff, then down a ladder to access this beach (both pictured below). Don’t worry, there’s a rope for you to hold onto if that makes you feel better. This would also be a great place to boat to and enjoy the quiet lagoon.
12. Explore the adorable fishing villages like Mandrakia
Mandrakia is my favorite little fishing village in Milos. It has picturesque, brightly colored boat garages, a great lagoon for swimming, and one of my favorite restaurants, Medusa.
13. Tour the Catacombs and Ancient Theatre
Dating back to the early 16th century, the Catacombs of Milos are an ancient underground burial site. Take a tour of this incredible monument and learn about the history and culture embedded in the catacombs. You can even see some of the amazing frescoes and mosaics that were embellished onto the graves, adding to their historic appeal. Don't forget to take a few pictures!
14. Take a swim at Firopotmoas
A quiet fishing village, this is a beautiful place to explore and spend the day. The azure colored water against the colorful boat garages makes for the most charming backdrop to your afternoon.
15. Relax and enjoy cocktails at Fyriplaka Beach
This beach is one of the most popular for its long stretch of white sand and huge rocks forming its coastline along the turquoise blue waters. It is what they call an “organized beach” meaning there are chairs and a bar/hut. This was easily one of my favorite beaches in Milos to spend a whole day! Located next door to Tsigrado, it is easy to hop between these two beaches.
16. Have an authentic greek salad at Medusa
Medusa is hands down one of my favorite restaurants on Earth. We had the greek salad topped with a huge block of feta (which was what I came for after seeing it on social media), sun dried mackerel (we saw them catch and dry the fish earlier that day when we swam at the beach), swordfish souvlaki, and finished it off with a little baklava. The sunset here was beautiful so you must sit along the cliff.
17. Visit Pollonia
Start your exploration of Milos with a visit to Pollonia Beach. This stunning beach is located on the north coast of the island, surrounded by crystal-clear waters and verdant hills. Enjoy the scenic beauty of Pollonia or take a relaxing swim in its warm turquoise waters. You can also sample some traditional Greek cuisine at one of the many waterfront restaurants.
18. Check Out the Venetian Castle Kastro
You definitely won't want to miss one of Milos' most remarkable monuments, the Venetian Castle Kastro. Sitting at the top of a hill overlooking Adamas town, the castle was built in 1207 AD and provides sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Explore its winding passageways and catch glimpses of ancient artifacts that hint at the site's rich history. Capture some photos for your Instagram, too!
Where to Stay in Milos, Greece
I wrote a whole blog post about where to stay in Milos. Read about the best towns and the best hotel options for your visit. Here is the amazing hotel we chose for our stay below.
Milos Breeze Hotel
Milos Breeze Hotel is where we stayed and it was absolutely perfect for us. It is located on the Northeast side of the island in a town called Pollonia which surrounds a charming fishing bay. I loved the hotel’s minimalist design, the infinity pool, and in-room balconies with plush lounge seating that overlooks the Aegean Sea. One of my personal favorite touches was the window in the shower so I could keep my eye on the ocean at all times!
How to get to Milos, Greece
The best way to reach Milos is via ferry or their small airport. It is a short 40 minute flight from Athens or a three and a half hour ferry from Piraeus (Athens). It is super easy to purchase ferry tickets in advance and pick up at the port.
Personally, we traveled to Milos from Sifnos via ferry so it was about forty minutes on the high speed ferry and we flew out of Milos to Athens when our trip (sadly) came to an end.
