This announcement is long overdue so I’m very excited to finally share the news that we are having a baby! We will be welcoming a little GIRL 🎀 in September 2023. YES, that is soon! I am currently 6 months or 26 weeks pregnant. The last several months have been a rollercoaster and I will share all about that someday. But for now, I will say it has been very high risk so only told immediate family and close friends until I was about 20+ weeks!
We can’t wait for what travel will look like with a little one in tow. While we know it will be much different, we welcome the challenge and don’t plan to let it deter us. Having babies is hard whether you are at home or in the Caribbean sooo I pick the latter! We’re already dreaming about what her first trip will be and can’t wait to see the world through her eyes. We value the experiences and perspective that travel offers so want to provide that for our kids!
While I know all about travel, I don’t know much about traveling with kids…yet. I have of course been researching all of the things and gear we will need for baby travel so I can be an expert mama like many of you. PLEASE send me all of your tips! We need all the advice we can get.
All About My First Trimester
The number one question I have gotten is “how are you feeling?” The answer: NOT GREAT. We found out when I was about 5 weeks pregnant back in January. I was actually genuinely doing dry January and we found out about half way through!
By week 7, the exhaustion and nausea hit pretty hard. I definitely knew I was pregnant. I would come home from work at 5pm and take a nap. It did get better in the second trimester, although I still take lots of naps when I can get them. I couldn’t stand the taste or smell of coffee for a while, but now I have some everyday. The recommended amount is no more than 200mg or about 10oz.
The nausea lasted all of the first trimester (and still is around), but I have found it is mostly when I need to eat. I wake up feeling sick because I haven’t eaten all night so I make sure to have a healthy breakfast first thing and feel much better. For several weeks there the food aversion was so strong. I could not bear the smell of cooked vegetables – which is tough when you are vegetarian! We ate pancakes for quite a few meals. Other than that, I was craving fruit so ate a lot of yogurt bowls and smoothies (and still am). Raw veggies sound okay, but I’m still a little repulsed by anything cooked. 🙃
The worst part though was the sciatica pain. I thought this happened later in pregnancy, but for me it began around week 8 and lasted through 15! It got so bad for a couple days that I could barely walk…or lay down…or take my shoes off! I got a prenatal massage along with pregnancy pillows and it’s felt better ever since. It’s more likely that the baby moved up and off of whatever was pinching that nerve in my back, but I advocate for massages!
That’s all for now! Please, please send me all of your tips & tricks for pregnancy, newborns, registry must haves, travel with kids, and beyond. I would LOVE to hear your advice 🙂 Feel free to leave in the comments or use the contact form to message me personally! And of course, be sure to follow along on instagram to see all about our babymoon(s?)!
