If you are visiting Mendoza, then you are in for a treat. Not only are the wines incredible in this vast region, but the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. It’s safe to say you will want to have your camera in hand. And, of course that means you need to decide what to wear in Mendoza!
We visited Mendoza in March, which is prime harvest season and the start of the fall season in the southern hemisphere. With the seasons backwards, you’ll need to make sure you are dressed appropriately for the weather and the vibe of each winery.

Weather in Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina, is known for its stunning vineyards and picturesque landscapes, but the weather can vary significantly throughout the year, so dressing appropriately is key to enjoying your visit. The summers are hot and winters are cold!
In the spring (September to November), temperatures range from 54°F to 79°F. Days are warm and sunny, perfect for exploring the vineyards, but evenings can be cooler, so layering is wise. A light jacket or cardigan will keep you comfortable as temperatures dip after sunset.
You will want to wear all of your fun spring attire including florals and pastels (even though if you live in the Northern Hemisphere it may feel weird as we head into fall these months!)
Summer (December to February) can be quite hot, with average highs reaching 91°F and lows around 64°F. Lightweight, breathable clothing is essential, along with sun protection like hats and sunscreen. Due to the elevation, you are much closer to the sun and will get sunburnt (like I did!).
Autumn (March to May) sees temperatures dropping to between 50°F to 73°F. The weather is generally mild, making it a great time for outdoor activities like winery picnics, horseback riding, and bike tours. Layering remains a good strategy, and you might want to incorporate warmer sweaters as the season progresses.
I visited in March on a 10 day itinerary to Argentina and Chile, and it still felt like summer during the day and I definitely got sunburnt. It feels much hotter thanks to the elevation in Mendoza.
Winter (June to August) can get chilly, with average temperatures ranging from 36°F to 59°F. If you’re visiting during this season, pack warmer clothing, including insulated jackets, hats, and gloves, especially if you plan to venture into the mountains for skiing or snowboarding. It can snow in Mendoza so it’s best to check the forecast ahead of your trip.
What to Wear Wine Tasting in Mendoza
Wine tasting in Mendoza is an experience that deserves the right attire to match its elegance and charm. When planning your outfit, consider the venue and the season, as both can influence your comfort and style.
For spring and summer tastings, opt for light, breathable fabrics that keep you cool while still looking polished. A flowy sundress or a blouse paired with breathable pants or skirts is perfect for enjoying the warm weather. Comfortable shoes are essential, especially if you’ll be walking through vineyards, so consider stylish sandals or loafers. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses for sun protection!
In the cooler months, layering becomes highly important. A tailored sweater or a light jacket over a chic blouse can keep you warm while maintaining a sophisticated look. Choose darker colors for a touch of elegance; these can also help hide any unexpected spills from the wine tasting – they are known for the deep colored malbec!
In any season, comfortable footwear is a must, particularly if you’ll be exploring the grounds of a winery on a bike tour! I typically wore sandals to the Mendoza wineries in March, but did wear a pair of comfy white sneakers for biking around Bodega Norton.
You will also want to opt for a crossbody purse to keep your hands free for sipping wine!
Wine tastings and tours often involve standing and moving around, so aim for a balance of style and comfort. With the breathtaking scenery from the Andes Mountains, you will want to take TONS of photos. Colors like white, pinks, red, and blues really pop against the landscape in Mendoza!

Wine tasting is a bougie experience, so you should definitely dress the part! I wore a dress everywhere and can tell you that I sometimes still felt underdressed as many Argentinian women were quite dressed up with heels and all!
