I’ve been during Spring, Summer, and Fall (May, July, August, and September) and each time was vastly different. The weather makes deciding what to wear in Copenhagen challenging, but I have developed some great strategies to still pack in only my carry-on!

How to Dress for the Weather in Copenhagen, Denmark
I’ve been to Copenhagen a few times and I can tell you that the weather can be unpredictable. It’s always a good idea to check the 10-day forecast before you pack your bags. But generally, the weather in Copenhagen is mild with warm summers and cold winters.
The temperature in Copenhagen ranges from an average high of 68°F (20°C) in July to an average low of 28°F (-2°C) in January. But don’t let the average high temperature fool you. Even in the summer, it can get chilly in the evenings, so it’s always a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater.
The wind can also be a factor in Copenhagen. It can be quite windy, especially in the winter months. So, make sure to pack a warm coat, hat, scarf, and gloves if you’re visiting in the winter. It can also rain out of nowhere so always bring a raincoat!
One thing to note is that the weather can change quickly in Copenhagen. It’s not uncommon to experience all four seasons in one day. So, it’s always a good idea to dress in layers so you can adjust your clothing as needed throughout the day.
Best Time to Visit Copenhagen
The best time to visit Copenhagen is definitely summer when the weather is warm and the days are long. You will be able to really maximize your days and take advantage of all the city has to offer like some of our favorite Copenhagen experiences.
In the summer, enjoy outdoor dining, boat cruises, and evening concert series! This is their high season so if you are looking to travel on a budget or avoid the crowds, try shoulder months.
May and September are a great time to visit while the weather is still warm enough, but while most of the summer travelers are not there.
What to Wear in Copenhagen in the Spring

Spring in Copenhagen is a beautiful time of year, but it can also be a bit unpredictable weather-wise. The temperatures can vary greatly from March to April to May, so it’s important to be prepared for anything. Here are some tips on what to wear in Copenhagen in the spring:
Firstly, layers are always key to a Danish wardrobe! I recommend bringing a light jacket or coat that you can easily take on and off as the temperature changes throughout the day.
As for footwear, comfortable and waterproof shoes are a must. The streets of Copenhagen are often cobblestone, so I recommend wearing cute sneakers or ankle booties.
When it comes to clothing, I suggest packing items that can easily be layered and mixed and matched. Jeans are a great option and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Light sweaters and long-sleeved shirts are also perfect for layering.
Copenhagen in May
I visited in May most recently and it was beautiful. It was quite warm in the sun, but cooler biking around and at night time so I was glad to have my puffer coat. Here’s what I wore in May in Copenhagen:
Dinners in Copenhagen – Maxi dress with leggings hidden underneath, sweater dress and sneakers
Daytime – Jeans or leggings with light sweater and puffer coat, sweater midi dress with light weight sweater layered over top.
Shoes – I pretty much only wear sneakers in Copenhagen, but I did wear heels one night as we went to a nice event. Sneakers are common with any outfit as most people bike around the city for work and leisure.
