As someone who read 34 books last year, it’s safe to say I have more than a few recommendations for your summer beach reads 2022 reading list. No worries, I’m not recommending any of those books. This list is full of books released in 2022 and some that are coming out later this summer.
Hopefully most of these are new to you and will keep you company whether it’s at the beach, on a plane, or floating in an infinity pool somewhere in the world!
Summer Beach Reads 2022
1. Verity, Collen Hoover
This book came out towards the end of 2021, but I HAD to included it for this summer as I am hearing so many friends talking about it recently. If you have not read Verity yet, you are in for a treat. Well, maybe more of a mind-blowing experience than a treat. I am still trying to figure out the ending.
2. The Club, Ellery Lloyd
I am currently reading this book! The Club is a murder mystery that takes place off the coast of England in a private club that’s exclusive to celebs. The Home Group operates celeb-only escapes around the globe and this is their latest’s Grand Opening Party. Tensions are a high as the staff navigates an opening for the A-Listers on a property only reachable by road at low tide. It’s one of Reese’s Book Club picks!
3. One Italian Summer, Rebecca Serle
This one will spark your wanderlust. One Italian Summer is the return from best selling author and book, Rebecca Serle’s In Five Years. The love story takes place on the fabulous Amalfi Coast. Katy’s mother and best friend passed away right before their long anticipated mother-daughter vacation to Positano – where Katy’s mom and dad first met. Once she arrives, she feels her mother everywhere and then runs into her. A 30 year old version of her that she gets to know throughout the summer. It’s a time traveling book reinforcing that the people we love never really leave us.
4. The Summer Place, Jennifer Weiner
Last year, Jennifer Weiner released the popular book, Big Summer. She’s back with her newly released book, The Summer Place about families and secrets. It’s set in Cape Cod amidst a three month road to Ruby’s wedding following the end of a pandemic. You could say the road to any wedding is bumpy, but definitely this one between Ruby’s mom who left when she was young, her dad and stepmother, her twin brother suffering from a loss, and more. Read to see how the drama unfolds as the wedding day arrives. Definitely add this to your 2022 beach reads list.
5. A Flicker in the Dark, Stacy Willingham
A Flicker in the Dark is written by a local from where I live – Charleston, SC! I had to pick it up for that reason alone, but I am now a big fan of hers! This story is beautifully written and so suspenseful that I could not put it down! It’s about Chloe Davis who was twelve when 6 girls went missing over the course of the summer in her small, Louisiana hometown. Turns, out her father confessed to the crimes that summer. Now, she’s a psychologist in Baton Rouge preparing for her wedding when a local girl goes missing. Add Stacy’s debut novel to your summer beach reads 2022 list to find out what happens.
6. Reckless Girls, Rachel Hawkins
Reckless Girls is a fun 2022 beach read about 6 twenty-something year olds embarking on a sailing journey to an exclusive island in the Pacific – Mereo Island. This island has a mysterious history of shipwrecks and rumors of murder. They find out all that and more as they make their way to the island and some of them start to go missing.
7. Carrie Soto is Back, Taylor Jenkins Reid
LOVE Taylor Jenkins Reid so I can not wait for Carrie Soto is Back to be released later this summer – August 30, 2022. You probably know her from the huge summer 2021 bestseller, Malibu Rising. If you haven’t read it, put that on your list as well. Carrie Soto is the best tennis player the world has ever seen training from age 2 with her father. When she’s retired at 37 and watches a young star break her records, she decides to come out of retirement for one season to get her title back.
8. The Hotel Nantucket, Elin Hilderbrand
Elin Hilderbrand writes the best summer beach reads in my opinion – all page turners! The Hotel Nantucket is about a young girl, Lizbet Keaton, who is getting over a bad breakup when she becomes the general manager of a once prominent hotel. The hotel is now an eyesore, but she and the team work to restore it to its former 1920’s glory. It is told from multiple viewpoints of the staff, including one of a former maid who now haunts the halls. Debuts June 14, 2022.
9. Every Summer After, Carley Fortune
Every Summer After is told over the course of six summers and one weekend. Percy Fraser left home after a big mistake and thought she couldn’t go back. When she receives a call about the death of her former love’s mother, she is sent back home to him. Sam was her best friend that turned into a romantic relationship told through their summers spent on the water by day and working in the family’s restaurant by night. It’s a love story that reminds you of the people you love and the choices you’ve made.
10. This Time Tomorrow, Emma Straub
Another time traveler story, This Time Tomorrow is about Alice who on the eve of her 40th birthday is taken back to her 16th birthday party. Very 13 going on 30 vibes. Her father is ailing in her 40 year old life, but here she’s taken back to her vibrant, younger father. It’s a story about new perspectives as these past moments bring new revelations. Ann Patchett said she “could not have loved it more” so you’ll definitely want to trust her recommendations.
11. Wastelands: The True Story of Farm Country on Trial, Corban Addison
VERY different from all the spicy, beachy reads. I absolutely adore Corban Addison’s books and have been waiting years for his next release. If you have not read his books, get A Walk Across the Sun and The Tears of Dark Water for his absolute best work. His books will change the way you see the world. Mostly, I love the way he tells the story from many different characters – those facing a challenge and the lawyers helping them. But enough about that, we’re here about Wastelands. This book was released this month on June 7th so I have not read it yet. It’s about a small rural community faced with the reality of large scale farming and their pollution. This books takes you into the legal battle of the small town against this mega company. Read the synopsis for more…
Tips for Free Books for your 2022 Beach Reads
I love the feel of a book and turning the pages, but my kindle makes it easier while traveling and I won’t ruin hard copy books with sand and sunscreen. Highly recommend investing in a Kindle if you have not already.
As a bonus, you can get a library card from your local library and use the Libby app to “check out” books for free (your tax dollars) AND send them to your kindle. I love this while traveling so I can always easily get a new book if I blow through my list.
And that is all for my summer beach reads 2022 reading list including fun beach reads, murder mysteries, and a more serious book. Happy beach reading!
