Quick and causal, coffee shop vibes:
These are places where you are going to order at the counter and seat yourself. They are also great for grab & go coffee and/or pastries.
The Daily
Head to hip coffee shop The Daily for a great coffee, lattes and teas. Stay for the fantastic breakfast & lunch menu featuring some faves like avocado toast, their amazing pita sandwich, whipped feta toast, smoothies, and more. Pro tip: order ahead online to beat the crowd or get delivery!
The Harbinger Cafe and Bakery
The Harbinger is one of my neighborhood coffee shops and love it so much. You’ll find a sweet little cafe with great coffee, pastries, toasts, and quiche.
Huriyali
I eat at Huriyali almost every weekend. I LOVE their breakfast burrito with chickpea and tempeh for a vegan version! They have the BEST acai bowls in town too. You’ll find plenty of other options like salads, sammies, and toasts. Stay and eat in the quaint backyard space.
Pro tip: order online to skip the line at the counter and go eat in nearby Hampton Park!
Kudu Coffee
Kudu is located right off of King Street near Marion Square. It’s a great option for coffee in the mornings and craft beer in the afternoon. Sit outside on their outdoor patio if the weather is nice.
Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit
Head to the famous Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit on King Street and get the cinnamon biscuits and sausage breakfast biscuit! Such a great combo for a quick breakfast. They are also open late night on the weekends until 2am – a great post bar meal if you’re out late! Definitely frequented here in my bar hopping days (a loooong time ago!)
Mercantile and Mash
Mercantile and Mash is always a favorite spot if meeting friends or clients for breakfast/coffee. They have parking so that makes it convenient. Great coffee and breakfast items like toast, yogurt bowls, breakfast sandwiches, and bagels. They stay open until the afternoon so there’s a great lunch menu too with amazing sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Daps Breakfast and Imbibe
Daps is a fun spot tucked into the neighborhood. They have an extensive breakfast menu with pancakes, brunch burgers, breakfast sandwiches, and great hash browns. I love their chickpea sandwich and a side of hash! And for the imbibe part, they serve coffees, bloody mary’s, mimosa, craft beers and wine. You’ll order at the counter and seat yourself.
Sit down experience with lots of menu options:
These places are where you probably need reservations and can expect to be served at a table.
Park and Grove
We love Park & Grove. I eat here all the time! It’s especially good for breakfast or brunch on the weekends. There is inside seating, covered porch seating (with heaters if cold) and open air dining. Make sure to try a homemade donut and the Charleston Fog – an earl grey latte with lavender marshmallow! I’m also a big fan of their salads and grain bowls which always feature fresh local produce with the option to add your favorite protein.
Leisurely Tip: Take a walk around Hampton Park after or before lunch!
Page’s Okra Grill, Mount Pleasant
If you go to Page’s for Sunday brunch, you will need to get there early! Expect a large crowd ready for great food and bloody mary’s. Expect an authentic southern style menu with things like biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, omelets, fried chicken and eggs benedict. They have a little of everything!

Marina Variety Store is a gem! This locals spot is located at the city marina serving up omelets, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, and all your fave breakfast sides. It’s as casual as you can get and always a favorite easy breakfast spot. Think diner vibes!
Basic Kitchen
If you are vegan, Basic Kitchen is the best place to cater to that. Everything on the menu is healthier with a focus on fresh local produce. The basic bowl is so good and the cauliflower “wings” are amazing! Be sure to try the beet margarita too.
