What to Wear to a Winery
When deciding what to wear to a winery, here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Keep it Classy – wine tasting is a pretty boujee experience so you’ll want to dress it up a bit even if it feels like you are just going to a piece of farm land. Leave the workout gear at home and pack all of your most stylish outfits!
- Wear comfortable shoes – you may be walking around or standing A LOT on a vineyard tour. Pick sensible shoes like white sneakers, flats or sandals. There may be gravel or dirt paths so definitely avoid heels depending on your activity. However, if you are simply having brunch or wine tasting indoors, go for it with the heels!
- Pack for the season and the valley – you will absolutely want to check the weather ahead of time. Even in the hot summers of Mendoza, it does cool off at night to the point of needing a light jacket.
- Should you wear white? – If you are someone who spills often, make sure you don’t wear white to a wine tasting 🙂
- Hands-free – you will likely have your hands full with wine so it’s best to take a crossbody purse or backpack for a vacation to wine country.
- Think about your activities – are you going to do a bike tour? A walking tour? Only a tasting? Lunch? Depending on your activity you’ll want to plan outfits accordingly so you have appropriate shoes for biking.
Next, I will break this down by season. Keep in mind, if you are heading to the Southern Hemisphere, their seasons are opposite of what I am listing here. Our summer is their winter in regions like Mendoza.
What to Wear to a Winery in the Summer
Summer is a great time to visit a winery. Not only can you enjoy wine tastings and vineyard tours, but you should book a resort with a pool so you can soak up the sun after a long day!
Whether you are wine tasting in Italy, USA, or Argentina, the summers for that region will be warm. So, you’ll want to wear loose fitting outfits during the day (when you may sweat) and throw on a light jacket in the evenings when it cools off. I visited Mendoza in early March (transition of their Summer into Fall in the southern hemisphere) and it was much warmer than I expected due to the high elevation, but it cooled off significantly at night. It was about 80s during the day and 60s at night.
I recommend wearing flowy dresses or skirts to a winery in the summer. You could also do some breezy shorts with a cute blouse.
