The Isle of Palms SC is one of the many beaches located in Charleston. It’s known for amazing resorts, wonderful beaches, and family friendly vibes. It’s one of the larger beaches in the area so it has plenty of restaurants, shopping and of course, nightlife with large name acts playing frequently at the famous Windjammer.
It’s perfect for family vacations, bachelor and bachelorette parties, couples getaways, or even a solo trip. There is something for everyone no matter your age!
As a local to Charleston, I am sharing my guide on all the things you need to know to plan your next vacation to the Isle of Palms!

Weather in Isle of Palms SC
The weather in Isle of Palms is fairly nice throughout the whole year. Summer is the prime season through June, July, and August and will be very busy. These months are typically in the 90s during the day and nights dip into the 80s.
I suggest visiting during the shoulder months which are May and September. School will be in session so the crowds really thin out and the weather is still very hot!
The cooler months are also very nice to come to the beach. While you won’t be lounging on the beach in your bikini, there is still plenty to do as everything is open year round. The weather is moderate depending on the month, but could be anywhere from the 40s in winter to 70s in fall/spring.
Where to Stay on Isle of Palms
You are probably wondering where to stay on Isle of Palms. From vacation rentals to hotels to resorts, there are many options.
I suggest a vacation home for a family trip or bachelorette party. Some of the homes are massive and can easily fit 4-5 couples and kids!
For couples, definitely enjoy the luxuries of a hotel and spa if it’s the two of you!
Hotels on Isle of Palms
There are several hotels located on the island from large resorts to smaller boutique style options. Here are my top choices to consider.
Isle of Palms Wild Dunes
Wild Dunes Resort is the main resort located on the Isle of Palms. It features two hotels, several restaurants, villas, and golf courses. There is plenty to see and do at this family friendly resort.
Sweetgrass Inn
The Sweetgrass Inn is the newest hotel to open on property during 2020. The rooms are spacious with incredible views of the beach on one side of the hotel and the marsh on the other. It has a massive pool and kids pool area that includes a fun tiki bar and fire pits for roasting s’mores at night.
My favorite part is their heavenly spa! It has a private outdoor garden with plunge pool, cabanas and lounge chairs. You could spend all day eating, drinking, and reading out here! It is the perfect spot for a girls trip or romantic getaway!
The Boardwalk Inn
The Boardwalk Inn is the original hotel that made the resort a top destination. It’s located on the front beach with a boardwalk leading you toward the beach, but not before running into the best lounge area and beachside restaurant.
You’ll love having poolside lunch or dinner at the main restaurant, Coastal Provisions, when you’ve had enough beach time for the day.
Isle of Palms Rentals
Isle of Palms is home to many vacation rentals. Wild Dunes Vacation Rentals is a great option if you would like to stay inside the resort, but have more space than a hotel room offers.
Here are some of my favorite airbnb choices for you next bachelorette party or family vacation.

The Boathouse is another signature restaurant that has been a staple for years. It serves fresh seafood in a lively atmosphere. Be sure to catch sunset as it sets over the marsh.
Islander 71 Fish House and Deck Bar
Islander 71 recently took over the space of former Morgan Creek Grill. It’s been renovated with a fun outdoor bar and deck overlooking the intracoastal waterway. It’s a beautiful spot with beach cocktails and local seafood. Also a fabulous spot for sunset 🙂
The CO-OP on Palm
The CO-OP is famous in Charleston for their frozen rose. They are rapidly expanding to other cities so you may see them around soon. In addition to froze, they also have sandwiches and wraps perfect to grab and go to the beach.

Long Island Cafe is tucked away in the Harris Teeter grocery store shopping center. But don’t let that fool you. This is a hidden gem on the island with everything from seafood, pasta, brunch, and an extensive wine menu.
Coda del Pesce
Coda del Pesce is one of the nicer restaurants on the Isle of Palms. You’ll find exceptional Italian cuisine with great views of the ocean. You will want to make reservations well in advance. If you are with the family, this is the spot you’ll want to sneak away to for date night!
Acme Lowcountry Kitchen
Acme Lowcountry Kitchen is a great seafood spot with large plates in a super casual atmosphere. You can also order to-go here so it’s perfect if you want to stay home, but not cook!
The Dinghy
The Dinghy is a great place for drinks in a very easy going atmosphere. Go for happy hour specials and stay for the live music.
Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream
What’s a beach vacay without an ice cream trip? You can’t go wrong at Ben & Jerry’s IOP – they even have dairy-free options!
Things to do on the Isle of Palms SC
There is plenty to do on the island besides the beach so come any time of year for a memorable vacation.
Beach at Isle of Palms
Obviously, the beach is the number one activity on Isle of Palms. There are plenty of beach access points, but you can always park at the county park area. They have parking, facilities, and beach chair/umbrella rentals making it an easy stop in walking distance to all of the restaurants.
Isle of Palms Shopping
There are many cute boutiques and souvenir stores to peruse. Head to Ocean Boulevard to check out the local shops. If you are in Wild Dunes, be sure to stop by SALT Boutique. And if you need anything major, there is a Target and our local open air mall called Towne Center a few minutes drive from the island.
Boat Cruise or Kayak from Isle of Palms Marina
The Charleston area is so beautiful from the ocean’s perspective. I always recommend getting on the water whether a boat cruise or kayaking. Check out Coastal Expeditions for more information and options! I recommend a sunset dolphin cruise 🙂
Isle of Palms Fishing Charters
And, if you are feeling more adventurous, book a fishing charter with one of our local guides. They can take you inshore of offshore to catch whatever is in season. Definitely a great option for a guys trip or bachelor party on Isle of Palms.
Play a Round of Golf at Wild Dunes Resort
If you need some time away from the beach, book a tee time at one of the courses at Wild Dunes Resort.
Concert at the Windjammer
Be sure to check the calendar at The Windjammer to enjoy live music after dinner. A summer concert is the perfect way to kick off vacation.
