If you’re spending thousands of dollars on a vacation, I think travel insurance is one of those things you hope you never need but will be incredibly glad you have if something goes wrong. But, even I don’t get for every single trip.
As a luxury travel advisor, I book a lot of expensive trips. Honeymoons, milestone birthdays, multi week international trips, family vacations and once in a lifetime adventures. When you’re spending $10,000, $30,000 or even more on a trip, I don’t think of travel insurance as an unnecessary extra. I think of it as protecting your investment.
I’ve personally used Faye for my own travels, including a recent trip to Anguilla and I’ve booked it for countless clients traveling to destinations like Argentina and Costa Rica. I’ve also booked it for my own family, including my in laws.
After using it and recommending it over and over again, Faye is one of the travel insurance companies I feel comfortable recommending to my clients, family, and friends.
In this Faye Travel Insurance review, I’m breaking down what I like about it, what it usually covers, who I think should consider it, how the app works, what happens when you need to make a claim, and whether I think it’s worth the cost.

A disclaimer before we get into it: I’m travel advisor, which means I may earn a commission if you purchase through my link (at no cost to you). I’m sharing my honest experience and why I recommend travel insurance, especially for expensive trips, honeymoons and family travel. Also note, that each policy is different along with what is covered. The best way to understand what could be covered for your own trip is to create a quote yourself and review the policy fine print.
Is Faye Travel Insurance Worth It?
For most international and higher cost trips, I think trip insurance is absolutely worth considering.
Travel insurance isn’t something I buy because I expect something to go wrong. I buy it because things can go wrong that are completely outside of our control.
A flight can be canceled. A family member can get sick. Your luggage can disappear. You can get injured hiking. Your kids could get sick before you even leave. There could be a hurricane. You can end up needing medical treatment in another country. You can have to cut a trip short.
And sometimes the thing that goes wrong isn’t just an inconvenience. It can be incredibly expensive.
That’s why I especially recommend travel insurance when you’re taking an expensive trip, traveling internationally, booking a honeymoon or you are older.
The U.S. Department of State actually recommends that Americans consider travel medical insurance and medical evacuation coverage when traveling internationally, noting that U.S. government programs don’t pay medical bills for Americans abroad and that Medicare and Medicaid generally don’t cover care outside the United States.
For me, the cost of insurance is a relatively small expense compared with the potential financial risk of traveling without it.
Why I Recommend Faye Travel Insurance
I’ve booked a lot of travel insurance over the years and what has made Faye stand out to me isn’t just the coverage. It’s the overall experience. My husband and I traveled a lot post COVID and most countries made it an entry requirement so I got real familiar with different trip insurance.
There are three things I especially like: the app, the claims process and the support. Not to mention, it feels way more modern and less archaic.
The Faye app makes travel insurance much easier
One of my favorite things about Faye is the app.
Travel insurance isn’t particularly exciting and most people don’t want to think about their policy once they’ve purchased it. But when you actually need it, you want to be able to find your coverage quickly and figure out what to do next.
The Faye app puts a lot of that information right on your phone. You can view your policy, add your flights, receive real time flight updates, access important travel information, contact support and file claims directly through the app.
And there are some genuinely useful extras. If your flight is delayed by three hours or more, Faye provides complimentary airport lounge access through the app, subject to the terms of your plan obviously.
That is one of those features I hope you never have to use, but if you’re stuck at the airport for hours, having somewhere comfortable to sit, grab a drink and regroup is a pretty nice perk (especially if you’re traveling with kids!)
Claims are digital and straightforward

Another reason I recommend Faye is the claims process.
If you need to file a claim, you can do it directly through the app, upload your documentation and track the status of your claim there. Approved reimbursements can be sent to your Faye Wallet and Faye says you can also transfer funds to your bank account.
When something goes wrong on vacation, the last thing you want is to spend hours trying to figure out how to submit a claim or where to find your policy information. Having it all in one place makes the process much less intimidating so you actually file even the little claims!
I’ve submitted plenty of claims before with other carries and it’s such an annoying process. They make it so hard so you won’t file a claim.
24/7 support

Faye also offers 24/7 support through the app, which is particularly valuable when you’re traveling internationally.
If you’re in Europe at 2 am and suddenly need help finding a doctor, figuring out what to do after a major travel disruption or understanding your coverage, you don’t want to wait until business hours.
Faye’s customer experience team is available 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
As a travel advisor, I also like knowing my clients have somewhere to turn directly when an emergency happens. I will always help my clients when I can, but I’m not an insurance company or a medical assistance team. Having that additional layer of support is important.
Travel Insurance Is Especially Important for Luxury Travelers
This is something I talk about with my clients all the time.
If you’re spending $15,000+ on a trip, spending a few hundred dollars to protect that investment starts to look very different than it does on a $500 weekend away.
Think about the kinds of trips where you may have significant nonrefundable expenses:
- A $20,000 honeymoon
- A luxury safari
- A multi week European vacation
- A milestone birthday trip
- A family trip with multiple travelers
- A luxury cruise
- A villa rental
- A once in a lifetime trip you’ve been saving for YEARS to take
When you’re putting that much money into a trip, I want my clients to at least understand what they’re protecting and what could happen if they had to cancel or interrupt the trip.
Faye’s current international coverage includes trip cancellation protection for covered reasons, trip interruption coverage and emergency medical and evacuation benefits, with specific limits and eligibility depending on the plan and traveler.
And for travelers who want even more flexibility, Faye offers optional coverage such as Cancel For Any Reason, which can reimburse up to 75% of eligible nonrefundable trip costs when the add-on requirements are met.
I don’t think everyone needs every add-on. That’s actually one of the things I like about having different options. You can choose coverage based on the trip you’re actually taking.
I Especially Recommend Travel Insurance for Older Travelers
If you’re older or are traveling with your parents, grandparents or other older family members, I strongly recommend looking into travel medical coverage. Did you know that some carriers won’t even cover seniors?!
I’ve booked Faye for clients in their 70s and I’ve also booked it for my own family, including my in laws.
I think older people absolutely should travel. But as we get older, the financial consequences of a medical emergency abroad can become even more significant.
A friend of mine’s father had a medical event while traveling in Europe. He ended up spending about a month in a hospital there and ultimately needed to be medically evacuated back home to a hospital near his family.
That story hit me really hard.
It’s so easy to think, We’ll be fine. Nothing is going to happen.
And hopefully nothing does.
But when something serious happens, having medical and evacuation coverage can be the difference between dealing with an awful situation and dealing with an awful situation plus an enormous financial burden.
Faye’s current international plans can include up to $250,000 in primary emergency medical coverage and up to $500,000 for emergency medical evacuation, although coverage varies by plan and state.
For older travelers, I would also pay particularly close attention to pre existing condition coverage and the specific terms of the policy. Faye currently says pre existing conditions can be covered for trip cancellation or interruption when the applicable requirements are met, including purchasing within 14 days of the initial trip deposit and being medically able to travel at the time of purchase.
This is one area where I don’t recommend waiting until right before your trip to figure things out!

My Own Experience Using Faye
I’ve used Faye for my own travel, including a trip to Anguilla recently. I decided to purchase for this recent trip because of the very expensive non refundable hotels I booked, we’re traveling with little kids, and the potential risk of hurricanes. And you know what, it was only $357USD for the coverage for all 4 of us.
For me, the value is having the coverage in place and knowing what I had if something unexpected happened.
I’ve also booked Faye for my own family, including my in laws, which says a lot about how comfortable I am recommending it.
I don’t recommend products to my clients that I wouldn’t be comfortable telling my mom to use!
I’ve Booked Faye for Clients Traveling to Argentina, Costa Rica and More
My experience with Faye isn’t limited to my own trips.
I’ve booked it for clients traveling internationally to destinations including Argentina and Costa Rica, as well as for clients taking more expensive luxury trips where there is a lot of money at stake.
Argentina is a good example of why I like having travel insurance as part of the trip planning conversation. Even when insurance isn’t a universal entry requirement for a particular traveler and destination, I want my clients to think about the medical and financial side of an international trip. Current U.S. State Department guidance specifically recommends travel health insurance for travelers to Argentina. And at the time of my client’s trip, they were required to have it per Argentina’s government.
And because travel requirements can change, I always recommend checking the current entry requirements for your specific destination before you travel.
What Does Faye Travel Insurance Cover?
Faye offers several levels of coverage and optional add-ons, so your exact benefits depend on the plan you purchase.
Some of the current coverage options include:
| Coverage | What it can help with |
|---|---|
| Trip cancellation | Reimbursement for eligible nonrefundable expenses when you cancel for a covered reason |
| Trip interruption | Help with eligible unused trip costs and additional transportation expenses |
| Emergency medical | Eligible medical expenses from a sudden illness or injury |
| Emergency medical evacuation | Transportation to an appropriate medical facility when medically necessary |
| Trip delay | Eligible expenses such as meals, lodging and transportation after a qualifying delay |
| Missed connection | Eligible transportation expenses after a qualifying delay |
| Lost or damaged baggage | Reimbursement for eligible lost, stolen or damaged belongings |
| 24/7 assistance | Help locating medical care, pharmacies and other assistance while traveling |
| Telemedicine | Access to virtual medical care on eligible international trips |
| Airport lounge access | Complimentary lounge access for qualifying 3+ hour flight delays |
| Optional add-ons | Options including CFAR, rental car, adventure sports, pet care and vacation rental protection |
Your actual coverage will depend on your plan, state and trip.
You Can Customize Your Faye Coverage
One thing I don’t want you to overlook is that you don’t necessarily have to buy the exact same coverage for every trip.
Your needs are different if you’re taking a $2,000 beach vacation versus a $25,000 honeymoon.
Faye offers optional add-ons that can allow you to build coverage around your trip, including:
Cancel For Any Reason
For travelers with a particularly expensive trip or who want more flexibility around cancellation, CFAR can be worth considering.
Faye currently offers up to 75% reimbursement of eligible nonrefundable trip costs through its CFAR add-on, subject to purchase and cancellation requirements.
I like this because you have to think about things that can prevent you from traveling at home – someone gets sick, you get hurt, your house floods, etc. It may not even be something that happens on the trip itself!
Rental car coverage
This can be useful when you’re planning a road trip or renting a car during your vacation. Though, credit cards do tend to cover this one.
Adventure and extreme sports
If you’re planning activities that may not be covered under a standard policy, this is something I would specifically look into before your trip. Especially if you are doing a more adventurous trip like hiking in Patagonia or a big ski trip!
Vacation rental protection
This can be helpful if you’re staying in a villa or vacation rental and want additional protection for accidental damage. Or they require it.
Cancel For Work Reasons
Faye also currently offers a Cancel For Work Reasons add-on for qualifying travelers who need additional flexibility because of unexpected work requirements.
The takeaway is that you don’t need to automatically buy every possible upgrade. I prefer looking at the actual trip and deciding where the biggest risks are.
Don’t Assume Your Credit Card Has You Covered
You guys!! This is a big one.
I hear this literally all the time:
“I have travel insurance through my credit card, so I don’t need travel insurance.”
Maybe. But don’t assume!
Some credit cards offer valuable travel protections, but the benefits, limits and eligibility requirements vary SIGNIFICANTLY by card.
Before relying on your credit card, I would look specifically at:
- What trip cancellation reasons are covered
- How much cancellation coverage you actually have
- Whether medical expenses are covered
- Whether emergency medical evacuation is covered
- Who in your traveling party is covered
- Whether you had to pay for the entire trip with that card
- What happens if you need to interrupt your trip
- What documentation is required
- What exclusions apply
Medical and evacuation coverage are particularly important to me. The U.S. Department of State recommends travelers consider travel medical insurance and medical evacuation coverage because U.S. government programs do not cover medical expenses for Americans abroad, and Medicare and Medicaid generally don’t cover care outside the United States.
So yes, check your credit card benefits.
But don’t automatically assume they’re enough. And gosh, filing a claim with a credit card (or even worse, the airline) is annoying and I have always been denied!

Faye Travel Insurance Pros and Cons
What I like about Faye
- Easy to use app
- Digital claims process
- Ability to track claims in the app
- 24/7 support
- Strong medical and evacuation coverage options
- Real time flight alerts
- Lounge access for qualifying flight delays
- Multiple coverage options
- Optional add-ons for different types of trips
- Faye Wallet for approved reimbursements
- An option I feel comfortable recommending to older travelers after reviewing the applicable policy terms
- Something I’ve personally used and purchased for my own family
What I don’t love
Travel insurance isn’t magic, and Faye isn’t going to cover every possible scenario.
You need to understand the terms of your specific policy, including covered reasons, exclusions, benefit limits and deadlines for certain add-ons.
Coverage also varies by state and plan, so I always recommend getting a quote based on your actual trip rather than relying on a generic example you read online.
That’s true of any travel insurance company.
Who Should Consider Faye Travel Insurance?
I think Faye is particularly worth considering if you’re:
- Taking an expensive international trip
- Booking a honeymoon
- Taking a luxury vacation
- Traveling with older parents or grandparents
- Planning a once in a lifetime trip
- Traveling somewhere with expensive medical care
- Planning an adventure focused trip
- Traveling with children
- Concerned about losing a significant amount of nonrefundable money
- Looking for an easy digital claims process
- Wanting 24/7 support while abroad
And if you’re spending tens of thousands of dollars on a trip, this is one of those expenses I would much rather have and never use than need it and not have it.

Who Might Not Need Travel Insurance?
I also don’t think everyone needs to purchase the most comprehensive travel insurance plan for every trip.
If you’re taking an inexpensive domestic weekend away and have very little nonrefundable money at stake, the equation is different.
And if you already have extensive coverage through another source, you may not need to duplicate it.
The important thing is understanding what you’re actually covered for.
For me, the question isn’t “Do I always need travel insurance?”
It’s:
“What am I risking by not having it on this particular trip?”
That’s the question I encourage my clients to ask, too.

The Wrap Up: My Honest Faye Travel Insurance Review
If you want the short version, yes, Faye is a travel insurance company I feel comfortable recommending.
I’ve used it myself. I’ve purchased it for my own family. I’ve booked it for my in laws. I’ve recommended it to clients traveling throughout the world, including Argentina and Costa Rica, and I’ve worked with clients in their 70s where having strong medical coverage is particularly important.
I like the app. I like that claims can be handled digitally. I like having 24/7 support. I like the lounge benefit when flights are delayed. And most importantly, I like knowing my clients have meaningful medical and evacuation coverage when they’re thousands of miles from home.
But the biggest reason I recommend travel insurance isn’t actually Faye.
It’s because things happen.
A medical emergency. A canceled flight. A family emergency. A missed connection. A trip that suddenly needs to end early.
You can’t predict those things.
But you can protect yourself financially from some of the consequences.
For a relatively small additional cost, travel insurance can protect a significant investment, and for expensive trips, honeymoons and international travel, that’s a tradeoff I’m very comfortable making.
