So excited to share that we are building a new home this year! We have lived in a tiny 900 square foot home for the past 7 years so are very ready to have more space. We have LOVED living downtown in our first house and it has been perfect for us – we’ll be sad to leave it! This project has been quite the journey so far and excited to share all things home design, decor, how we’re earning points to travel, and more of the process.
As I’m sure you are aware, the housing market has been crazy the past few years and Charleston might be the most difficult place to find a house. With so many new people moving here, there has not been nearly enough supply. We started hand writing notes to homeowners around the area THREE years ago in 2020. We were looking for anything we could renovate, tear down, or a vacant lot. In July 2022, someone reasonable finally responded and we came to an agreement. Finally, we closed in January 2023 and broke ground in May!
We felt strongly about one day getting to build since one of our best friends is a custom home builder. We’ve watched him grown his business from literally the ground up over the past several years and couldn’t be more excited to live in a home that he is making happen!
We knew exactly what we wanted and drew up a rough draft of the plans ourselves. Then, we started working with an architect last fall to bring the vision to life with real plans! As of this post, we are moving along quickly in the construction phase. They have finished framing, installing windows, plumbing, electrical, and will begin drywall this week! We’ve got a ton of decisions ahead of us and need all the help we can get!
As exciting as this is, we were worried this would mean our travels would be put hold for a while (and they might). We’ve strategically began using travel reward credit cards to earn points so we can still go on great trips. I’ll share all about this in another post one day – incase any of you have questions about earning/using credit card points, let me know in the comments and I will answer them.
Please share all of your best tips for home decor, interior design or even the home build process. We would love your advice!
