How to Get to Seychelles
Seychelles is literally on the other side of the world from the US, but it’s not that difficult to get there. The airport is located on the main island of Mahé and is called Seychelles International Airport (SEZ). There are flights from major hubs like Dubai, Paris, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Zurich, Istanbul, and more!
We booked our flight from the US to Dubai and then booked the final leg via Air Seychelles. The flight from Dubai to Seychelles is only 4.5 hours.
Once you arrive on the island, you can ferry to Praslin and La Digue or take the small Air Seychelles planes to Praslin. Many hotels also offer a helicopter to SEZ if you are willing to splurge.
Leisurely Tip: We spent one night at the airport hotel at Dubai International Airport on the way there and 3 nights in Dubai on the backend! I highly recommend a stopover so you get 2 trips in one!
Best Time to Visit Seychelles
As a tropical island, there is truly no bad time to visit the Seychelles. Being near the equator, they experience a warm climate year round with average temperatures in the 78-90ºF range (or 26-32C). My best advice is to visit when it works best for you! But, here is everything you need to know about the weather patterns in Seychelles.
Given its tropical location, they do receive a lot of rain, generally in short bursts in the morning or evening. This was true for my experience there. The wettest months are December, January and February and driest are June, July, and August.
The hottest months are typically April and November with temps reaching 90ºF. This is due to the the trade winds. During May through September the winds blow from south to east, while from December to March they blow north to west. This makes the transitional months of April and November feel much warmer.
I visited during April and the weather was perfect. Warm, with a light breeze and short rainfall during the morning and/or evening. I would not worry about a rainy season – it does not mean it rains all the time, but in short bursts some days.

Seychelles is known for its incredible resorts, many located on their own private island! You will find rooms and villas with plunge pools offering complete privacy and unspoiled views. 3. The Granite Boulders
One of the most unique things about the Seychelles is the massive boulders you’ll see along the beaches. The Seychelles are the only oceanic islands in the world that are actually formed from granite. You’ll see this rock everywhere from the cities to the beaches.
One of the stunning places to see these granite rocks is at Anse Source d’Argent which is often considered the most beautiful beach in the world. You’ll need to ferry to La Digue and bike to reach this beach as the island doesn’t allow cars.
It was a rainy day when we visited and you can still see how beautiful it is!

4. Breathtaking Beaches with White Sand and Clear Water
Seychelles consists of 115 archipelagos so you’ll be surrounded by clear water and white sand beaches anywhere you go. I’ve traveled to many beaches around the world and there’s nothing quite comparable to the beaches in Seychelles. Imagine lounging on the soft sand as the palm trees sway in the breeze!
We loved kayaking to a small island from our hotel and spending the afternoon on our own private paradise!

5. Giant Aldabra Tortoises
One of the things that make the Seychelles special is the rare Aldabra tortoises that are abundant on these islands. They are massive land turtles that roam the islands freely. You will find the most on La Digue Island and Curieuse Island which is a protected area.

6. Vallee de Mai Palm Nature Reserve
The Vallee de Mai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Praslin island and is the only place in the world to see the coco de mer and over 5 species of prehistoric palm trees all in one place. If you love these tropical plants, you’ve got to visit the Seychelles! The Vallee de Mai is thought to be the garden of Eden with its towering palm trees and the rare coco de mer which is French for coconuts of the sea. You can also try to spot the black parrot – one of the rarest birds in the world.
🌴 Recommended tour to Vallee De Mai and Anse Lazio
7. Fishing in the Indian Ocean
Seychelles is a popular fishing destination with its unique landscape and geography within the Indian Ocean. The best time of year is from October-May where you can catch plenty of big game fish including amberjack, snapper, grouper, and more.
🐠 Reserve your fishing charter in Seychelles!
8. Melting Pot of Cultures and Cuisines
The Seychelles were uninhabited throughout most of our recorded history until the 18th century when they were under French and UK control. It wasn’t until 1976 that the islands declared independence from the United Kingdom.
The language in the Seychelles is a mix of French and English known as Seychellois. However, you will find most people also speak English in the islands.
Seychelles is known for its unique, creole style cuisine featuring dishes with ingredients found on the island: local seafood, curry, coconut, plantains, and fresh produce. Be sure to try papaya chutney, grilled breadfruit, curries, fresh seafood and ladob for dessert!
You’ll find plenty of great options to eat, but also consider taking a cooking class for this unique blend of cultures represented in the cuisine.
9. Morne Seychellois National Park
The Seychelles has a very Mountainous terrain and many hiking trails throughout especially on the main island of Mahé.
One of the best spots for a challenging hike is Morne Seychellois National Park where you can summit the 905m high peak. Along the way you’ll see all kinds of wildlife like the Seychelles Scops-owl and amazing views over Mahé island.
⛰ Take a guided hiking tour in Mahé
10. Sunset at Anse Lazio
There’s nothing quite like a sunset in the Seychelles. The vast ocean and the colors make for a spectacular sunset. One of the best places to watch the sun go down is at Anse Lazio on Praslin Island.
Leisurely tip: Have your hotel arrange a sundowner so you can sip your favorite drink for the show!
