Pregnancy Travel Tips
First, a few tips to help prepare for flying while pregnant then I’m sharing all of my must have items to ensure a smooth trip.
1. Consult with your healthcare provider
Before embarking on a long-haul flight while pregnant, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider. They will be able to assess your individual situation and provide you with personalized advice and recommendations. Your healthcare provider can inform you about any potential risks or precautions you should take while traveling, as well as provide you with any necessary documentation or medical clearance.
It is important to prioritize your health and the health of your baby, so make sure to have a thorough discussion with your healthcare provider before making any travel plans.
2. Pack essential items for comfort and convenience
When preparing for a long-haul flight while pregnant, it’s important to pack essential items that will provide you with comfort and convenience throughout your journey. Some key items to consider include comfortable clothing and shoes that accommodate any swelling or changes in your body, a neck pillow or travel pillow for added support and comfort during the flight, compression socks to help prevent blood clots and reduce swelling in your legs, and snacks and water to stay hydrated and nourished during the flight.
Additionally, don’t forget to pack any necessary medications or prenatal vitamins, as well as any personal items that will help you feel more at ease, such as a favorite book or music. By packing these essential items, you can ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable long-haul flight while pregnant.
3. Stay hydrated and eat nutritious snacks
Staying hydrated and eating nutritious snacks are essential during a long-haul flight while pregnant. It’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the flight to prevent dehydration, as the dry cabin air can cause increased thirst. Additionally, bringing your own healthy snacks can help keep your energy levels up and provide necessary nutrients for both you and your baby.
Opt for snacks that are easy to pack and won’t spoil, such as nuts, dried fruit, granola bars, or pre-cut vegetables. Avoid sugary or processed snacks, as they can lead to energy crashes and discomfort. By staying hydrated and nourished, you can ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable flight while pregnant.
4. Dress comfortably and wear compression socks
When flying long distances while pregnant, it’s important to prioritize comfort. Choose loose-fitting, breathable clothing that allows for easy movement and doesn’t restrict blood flow. Opt for layers, as the temperature on the plane can fluctuate.
Additionally, wearing compression socks can help prevent swelling and improve circulation in your legs. These socks apply gentle pressure to your legs, reducing the risk of blood clots and discomfort. Make sure to choose the right size and put them on before your flight. By dressing comfortably and wearing compression socks, you can minimize discomfort and promote better circulation during your long-haul flight while pregnant.
5. Take frequent breaks and move around during the flight
It’s important to take frequent breaks and move around during your long-haul flight while pregnant. Sitting in one position for an extended period of time can increase the risk of blood clots and discomfort. Take advantage of any opportunities to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. You can also do simple exercises in your seat, such as ankle rolls and leg stretches, to keep your blood flowing and prevent stiffness.
Additionally, consider booking an aisle seat for easier access to the restroom and more freedom to move around. Remember to listen to your body and take breaks as needed to ensure a comfortable and safe flight. If you can splurge on a first class seat or find a good deal, this is definitely the time to do it for an overnight flight.
My Pregnancy Long Haul Flight Essentials
My favorite items for flying especially while pregnant! I’ve had many flights short and long during this pregnancy so these are some tried and true products.

Compression Socks
Everyone said to get compression socks so I did. I wore them on the plane and feel like they helped, but honestly hard to be sure. You want to keep your blood flowing so wear socks and get up to move around as often as possible. These are the ones I got and am sure they’ll come in handy again in my third trimester.
Melatonin
I love melatonin and it is pregnancy safe according to my doctor, but do check with yours too! I find it so helpful to fall asleep on the plane and for fighting jet lag!
Lip Mask or Chapstick
This lip mask/chapstick is an absolute must! I was skeptical, but this has been saving me from chapped lips during air travel and in the winter weather. I layer it on at night and throughout the day.
Snacks
I’m the queen of snacks and that’s only gotten more extreme during pregnancy. I packed WAY more snacks than I could ever eat for my babymoon. I took instant oatmeal for the plane (just ask for hot water) and tons of protein bars! These are great bars for traveling whether an airplane snack, breakfast or when you are out exploring! Only about 220 calories depending on flavor and full of protein (~14g) and fiber (~10g) to keep you full. Favorite flavors are mint chocolate chip, chocolate chip, and peanut butter.
